A Depressed Mode song I like! Not like the old days.
This has the most infectious groove I can think of, it seems so much more complex than the electronica I've heard. Johnny Cash new what he was doing when he did a version of Personal Jesus, they write good tunes.

They grew on me too. When I was a teen/20 something, I didn't care for the original Depeche Mode but after their newer stuff came out in the 2000s, I really liked them.
I had an employee who adored Depeche Mode. I always wondered why? After listening to several of their songs I have to say that they really grow on you. It feels gooooood! And I dooooo feeeeel a litttttllllle biiiiiit of looove. 
What a surprise. I really enjoyed this. I hardly know any of their work. I only remember their name and have a vague impression that they were the perpetrators of a couple of silly videos that got way too much airplay in MTV's debut years. That category, however, is littered with the desecrated bodies of now-forgotten bands. This song convinces me that I should be paying closer attention.

Funny - I walked into the office just now listening to Depeche Mode on my iPod. Took out the earbuds and this one was on! Coincidence? Perhaps ;^).
My brother got up and sang (more like spoken) karioke to this song for me! He did a great job — but I was the only one cheering. Hard crowd (obviously not DM fans....).

Regardless of what you think about the song itself, their production has always been on the cutting edge of electronic music, they've pioneered many many sounds.

man, i haven't thought about those albums in years (decades?). it made me check out the tracklist on amazon. broken frame is where you can find the original "Leave in Silence", one of depeche's best regardless of era.

They really retained their cult status in the States, more so than in U.K, much like the Cult, Cure,etc

Despite its good radio success when it came out, I hinestly think Dream On is not so much "Depeche Mode" and has not so much impact. The lyrics are quite interesting falling in their subgenre which I'm unable to clearly focus about.
I really appreciate RP playing DM, but there are so many better songs than "Dream On". Like the rest of "Exciter" (surely their most ironic album title), this is incredibly boring.
Looking forward to their new album next month. The few songs I've heard of it are all miles better than their last two offerings combined.

This is one great DM song.
Exciter is a surprisingly good album, with a Violator-era DM feel despite the fact that it came out not all that long ago.
Always DID like DM's sound... heck I WAS a DM (DUNGEON MASTER) in the 80's.....Mmmmmm....80's......Aurghhhhhh!!!
Funny , when they did PERSONAL JESUS, you don't know WHERE they're coming from, but Mr. Cash doing it puts a whole new spin on it....

Wow, such strong anti-depeche sentiment here....those same people probably hate any type of electronica (Kraftwerk, house music,etc...)music and know depeche only by their (80's) hits...pity
They were never the same after Alan left; although Martin is a tremondous songwriter heavily inspired by the likes of Leonard Cohen and Nick Cave...

Reading all the previous postings, it seems DM ellicits plenty of commentary. like most fans, i adore the older stuff, and am lukewarm for the latest work. some groups just lose the edge after a while. losing a bandmember doesnt help either. they still have plenty of music out there to enjoy. i'll still listen to the new stuff, and hope the next album will show some of their earlier style
Depeche is the greatest expressway-driving music in the world. 5 lanes wide at 60 per, underpass, overpass, tall buildings, city lights, keep going, nobody slow down, now.
