I've honed my mother's eulogy down to nine minutes (to some, this is still long - but she had a long, full life so there's lots to say about her), I've got the picture ready that will sit by her urn, I've made the Spotify playlist of all her favorite songs spanning six decades for the memorial gathering, and I've got the backup CD of Albinoni's Adagio for Strings that will be the prelude before her Mass begins...and we're singing all her favorite songs—including "Pie Jesu" (me and my sis).

I'm packed up, the snow promises NOT to inhibit air traffic...and family are gathering in OH-KY as I type. It will be good to see them and meet the newest babies.

From a friends funeral yesterday, a recurring memory was his advice to his children, "Stand as tall as an oak tree and twice as proud."

Today we said goodbye to our beautiful momma - a woman with a strength and resilience of spirit like no other...who raised nine children and lived to see fourteen grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren. She lived with industrious purpose, loved music and dancing, and was especially proud of her family. Even through the most trying times in life, she always managed to maintain an attitude of thankfulness, faith, and grace. She lived a very long and healthy life...the last of her generation on both sides of the family. I will miss her presence on this earth more than ever, but I rejoice that her spirit flies free now—-and will count on her watching over me from the great beyond. Love you, Mom.

I think tonight is when I must finally deal with my feelings over losing a cousin this week.

She went through a few stages of cancer/remission and (like so many others) it came back and advanced.

Margy left this legacy: everyone always smiles fondly when her name is mentioned. She was always so compassionate, gracious, generous, loving....down to earth...lived on a farm in rural West Virginia, raised sheep, made homemade wool products, grew her own food, raised 2 fine sons (after losing a beloved husband in their 30s), and lived to see a few grandkids....and got to slip away peacefully with her sons, sister, and nephew by her side.

But damn I'm going to miss her. She always hosted the best family reunions down in her "holler" and was always so happy to see me (and me her).

I haven't had a chance to really sit with this and allow the feelings to come (due to a busy week).

Rest in peace, sweet cousin.
