That first 105 broke about 2 feet and wound up that far outside. Even if he leaves it over the plate, nobody's going to make good contact. I'd start swinging about the time he got his signs, so I imagine a lot of batters get in the same mindset: Swing hard in case you hit it.

I haven't seen him pitch but suspect he hasn't much in the way of secondary pitches.

That is surprising - apparently he has some control "issues".  In the video of the pitching sequence it looks as if Herrera reached first base on a wild pitch after striking out.

The five pitches Hicks fired to Herrera in a ninth inning at-bat Sunday were the five fastest pitches of the 2018 season thrown by any pitcher. Two registered at 105 mph. The others: 104.3, 104.2 and 103.7.

"Odubel just takes forever to get in the box," Hicks said, referencing Phillies center fielder Odubel Herrera. "It amps me up a little bit. So I bring it against him."

The Jets moved to Phoenix and became the Coyotes. So i guess that opened the door to get the Jets name back when the Atlanta franchise relocated to Winnipeg. I'm sure their fans were happy about that.

You raise an interesting point. Teams from both Alberta and Manitoba should play some games in Saskatchewan. Not sure about Northern Ontario. Ontario already has 2 teams, so they should jump north for a few games.

The Athletics are one of the storied franchises in baseball tho. Would you turn your nose up at the Yankees? A true expansion club brings no history with it, and it takes decades, with or without a championship, to achieve any sort of parity with the rest of the league, as far as respect from other fans goes. It's kind of fun in the beginning, but it's a tough financial challenge, I think, to succeed.

Yeah, on the other hand I do judge teams by their names, and think names should ideally reflect location, unless there is a long history. So when the Jets rose like a phoenix from the ashes, they really should have changed their silly name. And I for one like more expansive location names, if appropriate. There are a number of Australian Rules football teams that have partner relationships where they play periodically in cities that aren't big enough to host their own team. So I think the Jets should be rotating through Saskatchewan and Thunder Bay Ontario. Heck, there are so many NHL games, it would be easy to share some. So yeah, I just can't get very into the Jets. Maybe if they were the Prairie Chickens or something like that.

I guess I'm not like most fans. I watched the Las Vegas Golden Knights eliminate the Winnipeg Jets to secure a berth to the Stanley Cup finals this afternoon. Even though the Jets were the only Canadian team left in the race , I was rooting for the Knights. I have much respect for what they achieved in their very first year in the NHL and i hope they go all the way.

As far as I know, no other expansion team has ever made it to the big dance in their inaugural season, in NA professional sports.

Having said all that, I agree that if the A's move they should keep the name. Too much history there.

I didn't realize, when I first posted, that we might be inheriting an existing team. I don't like that one bit. The A's were who the Reds swept in 90. I was at game 2. I would have a hard time rooting for them, no matter how much the Reds might be sucking. I want a Portland original team.

If you get the A's it would be phenomenally stupid to abandon that heritage. But it's been done before. Also, they need to be the Portland A's. If they go with some marketing knob's "Oregon A's" or Oregon Famous Landmarks, they'll lose. My respect.
