i agree with you that common sense moderates/centrists would probably make better leaders
we're never going to get perfect, but intelligence is good
someone like huntsman or khanna would be better suited than biden or trump
i probably don't agree with their current positions on some things
however, i think both are smart enough to go with good evidence and make changes when needed
or i'd like to think so
regarding (political extremism?) in the gop, the tea party (v never trumpers) might be an example of disagreement within the ranks
sort of like the hard core far left regressive progressives types on the left

In a two-party first past the post system you simply have to vote for the party that opposes the one you really don't want, even if you are not a great supporter of them.
Of course, in reality, most people will just sit on the fence and not vote at all.
But establishing a third "alternative" party is simply counter-productive and in the worst case, most cases, only supports the very party you oppose most. In the current frail environment it would be an absolute disaster.
IMO, what you really need is proportional representation, which doesn't fully resolve the voting dilemma, but is a hell of a lot better than first-past-the-post. And it would change the nature of political discourse almost overnight, dampening the inbuilt trend towards extremism that a two party system incorporates.
Well, I've said for a long time that I've hoped that there's a group of GOP and Dem moderates meeting together in a Denny's, trying to find some common ground instead of the hyper polarized craziness that's dominated the news for the last decade+ and now...
Glad to see that Huntsman is part of it, but I do NOT like that it'll be sucking away anti-Trump votes. We all know that the GOP will not splinter, and support whichever failed real estate salesman unfaithful nepotistic treasonous misogynist tax-evader racist they put up as the GOP nominee. So the No Labels party can only decrease the chances the twice-impeached nationally disgraced Trump will lose.
