I love it... The shamisen can have such a hollow, edgy sound, but in the right arrangements, it can be supremely meditative... Yoshida Brothers are excellent!
The segue after Future Island Ran was a smooth soft landing for Dave Gray Babylon. Well done!
Clever - first Mer Du Japon, then this...! Sometimes the links are so vague that I don't get them - feel really pleased with myself when I do geddit!!

Seriously, I think I saw these guys busking on a pedestrian mall in Perth, Western Australia a decade ago. They were dueling with miniature kotos, and it was one of the most remarkable musical performances I've ever seen.

Sounds like music for a made-for-TV movie event about a white guy falling in love with a tribal beauty.
Good CD. Recommended.
Some of the best "modern" traditional Japanese music out there.
GREAT SET MAN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Yoshida Brothers - Tabidachi (Starting on a Journey)
Air - Mer Du Japon
Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds - Nature Boy
Tom Petty - Feel A Whole Lot Better
Edit: And before that was Midnight Oil and old REM! FREAKING SWEET!

Reminds Wolf825 of Black Rain
music for Japanese elevators and orthodontist's offices i suppose
More please. :)
Cool!

Except that this is Japanese and Kung Fu (功夫) is Chinese. Maybe that's not a valid distinction for musical purposes.

makes me want to pick up an album.
Reminds me of Black Rain.

The track is on the "Yoshida Bros." CD, but RP has the Vol. II artwork and link back to amazoozits, which does not have this track.
If no one cares, then nevermind...
You are right. ( no one cares, or/and yea, it's the wrong cover?)
Quite nice!
I think I heard this as the soundtrack to a Zen porn movie.
Cool album cover.
(kidding obviously)

Alpha Centauri.
Civ III is also very fun, because you can play a war-free game and just do cultural takeovers by assimilating cities into your collective... I mean, empire.
The original Civ was the first thing to cause me to stay up all night.

Isn't there a height requirement for samarais?
Not my dish. Too much orchestration. It needs a "less is more" mentality. As it is it sounds like an Eagles tune - you know, the ones where they try to prove themselves as musicians and wind up sounding gaseous and bombastic. This is bombastic to a T.
I like it. Makes me think of my holidays in Japan.
Would love to hear more of them.

Agreed, very good and much too short!

Pour down the center to release carbonation!
Again!
Seriously, I like these guys.

Except this really happens whenever a New York City bus is in an accident. There are more people trying to climb aboard than trying to get off--followed closely by the ambulance-chasing lawyers.

i've never seen two people more excited to be posing for an album cover.

That ain't a joke. That's shallow and thoughtless at the expense of trying to be cool. Take a vacation in Baghdad outside the green zone or something
And you think that's funny?

I believe they are behind the TV, next to the power strip. Some dust bunnies have them cornered.

i didn t know the yoshida brothers were on the playlist, and yesterday i was about to upload a couple of their (more lively) songs, but i have them sampled at 162kps, not good enough for rp...
thx anyway bill
I bought this album a while back after hearing a couple of songs from RP. It's completely worth it. It's not the best thing ever, but it's worth owning just to listen to every now and then.
It's great to hear something from another part of the world - once again Bill's mix is awesome. Nice segue to Simon and Garfunkel. Only on RP...

Just have to say, RP is the only other place I've heard the term. Seeing it spelled is that much neater.
My fav is Mu-licious! (mew/lish'/uss). Yeah.
This sounds a lot like David Byrne's soundtrack to The Last Emporer.

I for one, appreciated a bit of culture clash, and bought the album. Bill, might I suggest following up with The Clash "Straight to Hell"? The Simon and Garfunkel was just well... "blech"
Wow! Great to here some beautiful music like this after just getting back from Japan!! Nice pick for the evening Bill!!!

Although I have liked some of their other stuff I've heard here, this strikes me as a bit too much like Kitaro schlock.

Very original song. Not something I'd listen to all the time, but cool to hear on RP. Thanks.
Angular banjos sound good to me...
Sweetness! Love it!
Oooooo....and they're adorable, too. ;)
I'll have to pick up their CD, I love traditional Japanese music and this is a nice new twist to a classical style and instrument. :)

Yatta! Sugoi!!!
Bring on the sake, we might as well get drunk on this one...

definitely different... these vocal/lyrically deficient pieces are hard for most people to like I think...
It's a good one... followed up by AfroCelts... nice mix...
