Comb your hair and paint and powder
You act proud and I'll act prouder
You sing loud and I'll sing louder; tonight we're settin' the woods on fire
You're my gal and I'm your feller
Dress up in your frock of yeller
I'll look swell but you'll look sweller; settin' the woods on fire
We'll take in all the honky tonks, tonight we're having fun
We'll show the folks a brand new dance, that never has been done
I don't care who thinks we're silly
You'll be daffy I'll be dilly
We'll order up two bowls of chili; settin' the woods on fire

I'll gas up my hot rod stoker
We'll get hotter than a poker
You'll be broke but I'll be broker; tonight we're settin' the woods on fire
We'll sit close to one another
Up one street and down the other
We'll have a time, oh brother; settin' the woods on fire
We'll put aside a little time to fix a flat or two
My tires and tubes are doin' fine but the air is showin' through
You clap hands and I'll start bowin'
We'll do all the law's allowin'
Tomorrow I'll be right back plowin'; settin' the woods on fire

Agree, except for the comparison to Guthrie. I love both but for the vast majority of the population Williams had a greater impact if for no other reason than his far greater popularity.
Earlier I made a quip about hearing music from 30 years in the past (10 000 maniac song). Boy, do I feel dumb.
How poignant.  Bill has posted photos of actual destructive forest fires.  My heart aches.

Probably the dumbest comment ever posted to RP.

No, wait, no probably.  Definitely the dumbest.

The proof is that 70+ years later it's still being played?
Love Hank. One of my all time fav artists. Incidentally, his life story is so interesting/tragic/comically insane.

True American roots music.
Hank's voice practically conjures up my Dad everytime I hear him.  My father was a HUGE Hank Williams fan and much of my childhood was filled with my father's renditions of his tunes.  Love hearing this.
After watching Ken Burns' "Country Music" documentary, I have new appreciation for Hank Williams. His vocals and lyrics are like no one else's. I can't say the same for Jr.

Perfect punishment!!!
Now this is what Country/Western music should sound like!!!!!
This guy invented idioms with every song. He apparently sits a hundred floors above Leonard Cohen in the Tower of Song. Nobody sings as sweetly as Hank Williams Senior....

Easy quiz!  'The Blues Brothers'.

I take it you haven't been to a Hank III show.  You might want to give him a try.
Man, that steel guitar ~
Not clear

shame....
Spent my teenage years in the 70's running from all the country and blue grass music that my parents were all about.  Now, I'm staring to come around a bit....my Mom would be proud of me digging ole' Hank here...
HELL YES !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Love it. Unexpected. Just what RP is all about. And I'm NOT a big country, either.

Loving it here in Texas!
But after the summer we've had, please think twice before setting the woods on fire.
AGREED!  What a pivotal figure.  And died too young, like many good artists.  And you would never know by his songs, but he was an alcoholic.  He also passed on his musical genes to two other important Hanks; Hank Jr. and his son Hank III.

And agreed on Achy Breaky.......yuck!

I'm not a fan of modern country music, but I grew up on this stuff and it will always bring a smile.

We have a winner! There's a joint here that has the old Skyline sign out back by the stage.

My ex in-laws are from Hank's part of Alabama, around Greenville. Even Hank knew it was a good place to be FROM.

Wonderful!{#Cowboy}
Has anyone here seen Hank?

Hank has influenced more bands/musicians than I could possibly name here. A genius in every sense. Now back to twirlin'.
Way too backwoods for me - another time, Cletus.

en route to a concert.

my dad did this - literally - when he was a kid. set the woods on fire with his best buddy, smoking stolen cigars. burnt part of the woods, the field, and his grandmother's house right down.

i doubt he was tapping his foot along to the beat when he was running.

LOL guess I'm a lil older than you Bill, this is one of Hanks less known songs but still a "classic" Hank and Woody Guthrie were my dads favorites so I grew up with this stuff, drove my mom crazy
This is one of the things I love about RP.    The occasional gem from way back.   Loved it!   Thanks... now I'm getting off the keys to go back and "cut the rug"

now see...THIS is why I like RP so much.  Sitting here in the office reviewing personnel policies and trying to stay awake when out-of-the-blue comes a song that I NEVER would have anticipated.
The other week you threw in the "William Tell Overture" which caused me to smile and look at the computer....
eclectic.......thanks RP!!
love the wide range of music I hear on RP...but I just did not enjoy that.
HEY BILL!

IF'N YORE GONNA PLAY HANK, THEN WHERE'S BOB WILLS AND ASLEEP AT THE WHEEL?
