Softening the sound
Sleepy time when I lie with my love by my side
And she's breathing low, and the candle dies
When night comes down you lock the door
The book falls to the floor
As darkness falls and waves roll by
The seasons change, the wind is warm
Now wakes the owl, now sleeps the swan
Behold a dream, the dream is gone
Green fields, a cold rain
Is falling in a golden dawn
And deep beneath the ground the early morning sounds
And I go down
Sleepy time when I lie with my love by my side
And she's breathing low
And I rise like a bird
In the haze when the first rays touch the sky
And the night winds die
When I was young ,floyd give me a great
Feeling of Life. Every time a 10
Still does.
My very first album given to me by my cousin…he said, “hey man, you’re really gonna dig this and don’t forget who gave it to you.”
I was 10, never the same thereafter…thanks Cous.
Very cool. I had a similar situation with a family friend who was about 17 yo and I was 10 yo who gave me Yes "Fragile" and said - check it out, you might like it." Later he was surprised when I said how much I liked it, the rest is history.
I was 10, never the same thereafter…thanks Cous.
In high school a friend of mine went to visit family in Yugoslavia and came back with this album. He didn't like it at all. So I bought it off him and my life changed forever!
Cool story. Thank You for sharing it.
its really their first trippy one
seems to never get alot of attention
every bit as good as dark side
anyone know what the album art is?
i keep seeing a nostril...
It's an ear underwater. It's easier to see if you open the album to look at the whole picture.
i keep seeing a nostril...
This is Floyd?!? I could have sworn this was the Porcupine Tree dude getting a little more bass in his voice.
Steve Wilson was probably influenced by this album! ...eh?
especially on vinyl
the album cover is art, exquisite
why dont you include it in the image slider
Moar cowbell :P
Headphone Mastery fretless silk
Agree!
Headphone Mastery fretless silk
just when i thought 'it sounds just as boring as Pink floyd' i realised it was pink floyd....
i'm so glad punk + new wave came along in 1978!
I'm glad that you were listening to punk + new wave: most of it was all front and no back
punk + new wave: where are they now?
I must just be getting old - Pink Floyd (are people who love this band called Floydoids?) makes me smile and sigh in contentment these days.
Floydophiles?......
One of their better albums. Never gets much attention.
One could hardly be faulted for even thinking it was their best. It is different from their other work for sure.
"Dare us".
Brilliant.
There. Improved it for you.
Feeling of Life. Every time a 10
They still do. 10 for me as well
Feeling of Life. Every time a 10
Lovin' it!
not even close. sorry.
I think you will find it is an opinion, not a fact.
not even close. sorry.
Alan's funky breakfast?
I can't help it! This song always makes me start anticipating Fearless... I am like one of Pavlov's dogs...
I know right
Listening to albums... Man
It seems like I listen mostly to playlists these days.

No but he is suggesting that Animals isn't a decent album, FWIW.
Making fun of the Final Cut is okay, though. It is just Roger Waters unhinged political ramblings dumped out as if they were a coda to The Wall. Even so, no h8 intended, there is a good song or two in there somewhere.
The album did prove that Roger wasn't the be-all and end-all of Floyd and that they could move on without him. This resulted in 2 more decent albums and some tour memories, for those of us who came of age after The Wall, to last a lifetime.
Flick sez: I don't get people who don't like Pink Floyd. It's like saying you don't like cupcakes. They're harmless, relaxing, and enjoyable.
Not that it's my favourite album, but The Wall was an anthem for the fall of apartheid in South Africa, so they aren't harmless (in a good way).
Agree!
I must be even older. I still think of Meddle as "the new Pink Floyd album."
Sigh....
Open the jacket, turn it sideways, take a step back, and the mystery will reveal itself.
Thank you On_The_Beach! I haven't owned a record in decades, so I'll see what I can find online (no hints just wtf that is eh?)
Cheers!
Ohhh! now I see it, wikipedia had this:
The album's title Meddle is a play on words; a medal, and to interfere. Storm Thorgerson originally suggested a close-up shot of a baboon's anus for the album cover photograph. He was overruled by the band, who informed him via an inter-continental telephone call while on tour in Japan that they would rather have "an ear underwater". The cover image was photographed by Bob Dowling. The image represents an ear, underwater, collecting waves of sound (represented by ripples in the water).
Agree. IMO Meddle was the Pink Floyd pinacle before a long decline.
What was that album with the prism on it, again?
Yep! Dark Side of the Moon is a masterpiece, but Meddle is beyond sublime.
So glad I hit the PSD !!

miss you so much, Cynaera...
love this song...
Just thinking the same thing.
Glad to see some other folks liked Meddle and thought it was one of their best.
FWIW, Wish You Were Here is good but Animals is excellent.
I would argue that Porcupine Tree has taken this genre to new heights..... But it is all terrific contemporary music.

I felt that way about the album with the prism, even after many listens of most all the previous albums—always stoned off my gourd, of course. I thought then, and now, that the prism album was truly ground-breaking. "Wish You Were Here" was a huge disappointment (to me), and I stopped following Pink Floyd—but still enjoy the old stuff from time to time.
I even like Saucerful of Secrets and and the very first one. Meddle is very pretty tho, isn't it?

Marmalade, I like Marmalade.
I dare you to play "Several species of small furry animals gathered together in a cave and grooving with a pict" off of Pink Floyd's 'Ummagumma" LP. That ought to shake up your listeners!
brilliant!

Yep, me too. Just seems like the right kind of evening for it. A glass of wine, a loaf of bread, and Pink Floyd. *contented sigh*

yes yes yes - I love Ummaguma!
Great song... love it... I be salivating now...

Now listen here you guys...
It's kind of "eerie", isn't it? ; )

It's a photograph of a smiling lemur with a big black eye blowing spit and snot bubbles.
I finally edited that track a couple of years ago so I could actually listen to it. The asylum banshee screams were too much then and now. When the track appeared on the Echoes CD compilation, it was as if the producer and I had had a little discussion prior to its release.
Yeah, and it sure is nice not to have to flip over the LP anymore, to be sure. Better yet is the advent of MP3 players stuffed with ~40GB of tracks, all of which you already know you enjoy, cuz YOU picked 'em!
(As for your taste in culinary arts, have you ever tried jalapeño jelly on a glazed donut?)
> classics remain relevant. that's my definition of a classic. and so is this!
I agree. Very good definition.
Greetings, Karl
How abouat "Wish You Were Here"?
If you don't like, please play the group "Sweet".
Like this DJ, playing songs like a boy!
Guess, the DJ is about 60 years old.
Maybe he never grows old.
Forgive my englisch!
Greetings, Karl
And then you go and eat toast with strawberry jam and black pepper on it.
Several times.
Praise be the LP and dubious smokables...
BBQ potato chips dipped in melted chocolate icecream.....
Both excellent albums but Animals still is my favorite.
...a beatiful ear! of my favourite floyd album.
I used to think it looked like the face of an albino monkey (if there is such a thing), then somebody turned it sideways . . .
David "The Voice of Pink Floyd" Gilmour.
thank you bill
classics remain relevant. that's my definition of a classic. and so is this!
creepy-good, dreamy
Still have my ceramic nose pipe that is all things Woody Allen. If you're out there, I still think of you old college roommate!
Close...it's an ear.

Beautiful....Gilmour is so under rated. Great album, incredible band. 40 years from now, people will still be talking about Pink Floyd.
Its 21 years on from your post, Relayer, and Gilmour has just completed a wildly successful, albeit somewhat short tour, and it's safe to say hr is no longer under rated. Lol Truthfully though, I'm not sure he ever was.
The Floyd, of course, are no longer all with us, but their music will easily be mesmerizing people for another 40.
