This is a shield, this is a charm, with your name on
By this beat, by this verse, I'm protected
From your heat, and your curse, is reflected
If anybody hurts me
If anybody hurts me
Here's a mirror with your name on
Singing we're gonna miss you when you're gone
Here's a mirror with your name on
Singing we're gonna miss you when you're gone
Your green eyes, poison pen, serpent's tongue
Will return to the source that they came from
Revenge is the wine
Forgiveness is fine
Forgiveness divine
Revenge is more human
Here's a mirror with your name on
Singing we're gonna miss you when you're gone
Here's a mirror with your name on
Singing we're gonna miss you when you're gone
No words, all's been said and done
No more words, all's been said and done
Here's a mirror with your name on

Tailor made irony for Mr. Trump. AMF.
It's not ironic if he's still HERE, like an ass rash.
Ball-less Pet Shop Boys. They would have changed the lyric to something more interesting after the first serving of the brilliant, "We're gonna miss you...". You know, to make it less f*cking boring.
Love to listen to RP to get how c-grade bands like James could have made their tunes actually really good if they had more talent. So harsh, I know; and what do I know anyway..
You think the fucking Pet Shop Boys have balls? Well, you answered your own question - you know nothing.
a year later, you should be eating those words as he has united NATO against a ruthless Putin.
Sounds like James took the mike at a Nationals rehearsal
and channeled a Stones song

The last six c-grade words would provide a good James lyric....
"Yes, but remember, he's also the Moron-in-Chief."
Cool song : )

I truly appreciate RP playing James like many undiscovered bands/performers in the US that do not get their due recognition despite years of quality and interesting music. I am glad RP plays James and so many other lesser known bands that are so much better than nearly anything on current radio. I discovered James upon hearing a few singles but the Laid album cemented them as in the best of the best category. TIm Booth’s lyrics and the bands inventive and original music just continues with great album after great album (just last year released another goodie called Life in Extraordinary Times). One of the few that continue to produce interesting and memorable tunes. I thank RP for the vast list of artists that I have discovered and can research more and more. Now listening to another gem that does not get his due - Josh Ritter. Thankful for RP playing James, Josh, Lord Huron, Snow Patrol, Shriekback, Marianne Faithfull, Leonard Cohen, Joni, Fleet Foxes, Lucinda Williams, Decemberists, Future Islands, Vampire Weekend, Cage the Elephant, Sinead O, Kate Bush, Over the Rhine, Iron & Wine, Joanna Newsom (more of her), Rodriguez, and of course the Beatles and the Kinks.
Guilty pleasure and totally un-PC, but hoping to hear at least one deep Carly Simon cut (some good stuff beyond the hits).
"Yes, but remember, he's also the Moron-in-Chief."
Cool song : )
Huh. I wasn't liking it much until the chorus. So it goes
The cover = mmmmmm bacon
I think I mentioned this in the comments on another song of theirs but their initial push into the US had a serious image problem. The album had great press but it was pushed to college radio as "sounds like: (U2, Alarm, you name it)" and honestly, the way college radio was at that moment, it didn't matter how great the album was, if it was a hit with rock critics and came down from a major label (via Blanca y Negro, but it came to us thru Sire), it was going to have a hard time. Tell them the thing "sounds like" some other huge band and it's dead on arrival. And from what I recall of the time, there was a pretty pitched battle going on right then over college radio not wanting to be the "minor leagues" or just a launching pad for major acts... so a lot of college radio was drawing a line that said "No Majors." Even Hüsker Dü went to Warners and there was a huge push (from college-radio militants) to get them off the left of the dial. And altho their first album was really good, I don't remember them getting good touring gigs. Like maybe they were opening for someone big and didn't connect with that audience? I dunno, I could research it. But I don't remember an LA-SF club tour from them. Maybe I just missed it.
Which is a very long way of saying what you said: "never understood why they didn't make it bigger."
I never knew it was so hard to become a rock and roll star.. drat, my plan is foiled!!
interesting background info Scott!
Second time I've heard it. Everything else, what he I said.
More. Let's dance. It's f'in frigid in this neck of the NYC woods. Good to have some warm music.

My guess is that it a first listen/exposure to the band. Mine is now, never heard of them before this. Initial impression is very good. There is a lot of good music out there and sometimes the first listen is 10 years after the initial release.

Yup, nice porker. Oink, snort!
I love James and this is one of my all-time favourite songs of theirs. Keep in the playlist, Bill!
Full marks from the oldsaxon longhouse on the cover art! The vocal feels a bit autotuned....which bugs me, but I still like it.
James is a great band that should not be under rated or fogotten. Play more!
