i've got a head with wings
i got a head with wings,
i got a head with wings
and i can see so far away i can see so clear
you would not believe the view up here
i got a head with wings, a head with wings
now im floating around up here way above the clouds
so high above the ground
and the only thing that holds my head to the ground
is this one little skinny string
i got a head with wings, head with wings
i got a head with yea oh
a head with wings
i got a head with wings
i got a head with wings
i got a head with wings
and i can see so far away yes so far away
well i can see the shadows fall across your face
i got a head with wings
head with wings

True enough. The one song I've heard from them without sax was absolute dullsville. It's nice to hear a band without a lead guitar or synth, for a change. If you don't like saxes then you'll not get on with Morphine, for sure, but personally I love the blarting, rasping baritone sax :o)
Well, seeing as on most of their songs they use only bass, drums and sax—losing the sax would make the songs a little dull, no?

Yes. Yessiree.
5 or 6? Always room to grow then!
some people just don't appreciate good junkie music.

Ugh. They should replace the blarting sax with Homer yelling "sax-a-ma-phone" over and over again. Then it might be tolerable.
A lot of complaints i can't get out there. I'm a proper morphine addict these days. Just gotta get a fix from time to time. I think its fine to have just one sound if its your sound. Other notable examples to back this up include the smiths, the cure, smashing pumpkins and i could go on but really feel the point is made.

Like some of Morphine's stuff, but not a big fan of this song.
MUCH better ! ;)

Strangely, Morphine gives me a headache.

Nice to hear this band. Would be great to hear what Mark would be coming up with now were he alive. You're missed Mark!

This tune would be right at home in a Quentin Tarantino movie but it's really quite amateurish! The sax solo blows and it must have taken all of 5 minutes to come up with such deep lyrics!
Seems like Morphine is a like it/hate it kind of band. I happen to like it. Fortunately, it looks like most of us do too. Anyway, it's undeniable that they had a very distinctive sound. It's too bad that I only ever hear it on RP.

I liked it. Gave it a 7. Would like to hear Let's Take a Trip Together.

That's some serious baritone sax honking! Sure wakes you up. 7 from the Nottingham jury.
Ahhhhh... sliding on down with Morphine. Minimalist and deconstructed... 2 string bass played with a slide... the honking of the sax... takes me a different place. You are missed Mark Sandman.

I hated the sax at first, but it grew on me by the end of the song. I can't decide now whether I like the song or not. Part of me thinks it's dumb, but then it's kinda catchy. Maybe when I hear it again, I'll know.
I agree with you, I hated the sax at first ... and still do.

Such a badass sound, thanks for playing these guys. They may be one of many bands who are gone forever but at least they have new life here on RP.
Just the singer guy is gone forever. The rest of them are in a band called Twinemen. They played outside here last summer at a little bar and they were fabulous. Check out twinemen.com

Rock music that incorporates saxophone is just unbearable. I agree with a previous comment - a one gives this song too much credit!
...hmmm...
In the '80s it was John Lurie who scratched my lounge-lust... Today, Morphine. Thanks for introducing me to them, Bill!
Whoa boy. Any idea why this is being played?
yeah,pretty dumb, isn't it?
the sax sounds like someone taking classes being drunk
I wish I could rate this a zero. A one gives it too much credit.
Another one for the mondegreen file:
At first I thought he was saying, "head-wound dings."
Yeah, it's Monday.
How about a little variety in the song, maybe an adjective or two. Big wings? Fluffy wings? ANYTHING.

That's a shame - I love it, it makes this track. You can't beat a good deep honk :)

other descriptions just don't fit!
And my workday comes full circle -- starting and ending with Morphine. Quite appropriate for someone who works at a pharmaceutical plant!

Why do you have to personally attack him because he doesn't like the music you or even most people do? I love Coldplay, U2, and Radiohead, but I'm not personally affronted because this fella hates my tunes.

Interesting irony there - when Morphine was a "local" band in Boston, they were part of the scene at this joint called the Lizard Lounge.
2nd shot of Morphine of the afternoon.
Nice!
(Though any other album would have been prefered.)
SEXY
Not their best, but still cool stuff. I like Buena and Super Sex better. But at least we're getting a little variety, which is what I like about RP!!!
Oh hell yes. Morphine, especially this album is fantastic. For white guys playing a 2 string bass, drums and a sax, they got the blues....PLUS, is there a better rock death than dying on stage during a performance? R.I.P. Mark S.

This is loverly... transported back to the college dorm... oh my...
Anything with a Baritone Sax cannot be bad.

This set has gone down the tubes. MUTE.
cool song........
\:D/
I swear there's another song, called maybe "The Shape I'm In" that is the same melody? (Same tempo, even?) Am I nuts? Maybe that's not the name at all...
Confused.
Loving that sax. Thanks BillG!

I thought I was here to listen to some music. I didn't know that "Group" was in session. Well, I've got some gripes too.....Hey, why is no one listening to me?.....Oh the heck with it....I'll just go back to listening to my music, .....Ahhhhhh, Morphine, such an elixir for the soul, ...like it or not (pimp)

When this song first started, I thought I was listening to the guy from Timbuk 3. Then I realized the music wasn't like anything they'd play, and the lyrics were completely uninspired, so I knew it couldn't be them.

I agree, but they have a cool sound, like plastic saxes.
Ahhhhh, was jonesin' for my dose of Morphine...Thanks feels soooo good.

We Bostonians have been lucky to know about Morphine since they came out. WFNX 101.7 played them frequently in the early 90s.
Ergh... erm... sorry this is doing nothing for me. Repetitive lyrics, uninspired music.... and the "singing" is.. well.... it's grating on my... oh.. its done ... priase be...

It's a rather damp day mid-afternoon in mid-October. The leaves have had their colour change, and are falling from the trees. It was an early night last night at Biddle's bar in downtown Montreal.
I was catching up on a bit of work I really have no interest in doing... turned on RP....and this song summed up my current malaise perfectly.

I am always amazed that a group that I think is one of the greats can be so disliked by another. This was a unique band with unique musical skills. Not to mention that these guys were great guys when you met them in person. They are very down to earth. Mark was a great guy, and he is sorely missed.

If I'm not mistaken, they had no guitar, just a bass and the sax. Am I right, anybody?
I listen to morphine's album, over and over everyday.
