No more fighting
No more talking shit
Do as I say, not as I give up
Not as I've failed to live
In the future, there will be a terrible cost
For all that we've left undone
Deliver me from everything I've put off
And all that we've lost
I will always love you, but I cannot live with you

I will always love you

No more fighting, I've nothing left to give
I've nothing but atrophy
Did I cross you?
Did I fail to believe
In positive thoughts?
Our romantic second chance is dead
I buried it with the hatchet
Quit your antics, put them at the foot of the bed
And set it on fire
I will always love you, but I cannot look at you

I will always love you
I will always love you
I will always love you

Hold me closely
Hold me tightly lest I fall
Hold me closely
Hold me tightly lest I fall
Hold me closely
Hold me tightly lest I fall
Hold me closely
Hold me tightly lest I fall

Hold me closely
Hold me tightly lest I fall
Hold me closely
Hold me tightly lest I fall
I will always love you
Hold me closely
Hold me tightly lest I fall
I will always love you
Hold me closely
Hold me tightly lest I fall

No, I don't wanna fight at all
No, I don't wanna fight at all
No, I don't wanna fight at all
No, I don't wanna fight at all

No, I don't wanna fight at all
I don't wanna fight at all
No, I don't wanna fight at all
I don't wanna fight at all
No, I don't wanna fight at all
I don't wanna fight at all
No, I don't wanna fight at all
I don't wanna fight at all
No, I don't wanna fight at all
I don't wanna fight at all
No, I don't wanna fight at all
I don't wanna fight at all

I don't wanna fight at all
I will always love you
I don't wanna fight at all
I will always love you
I don't wanna fight at all
I will always love you
I don't wanna fight at all
I will always love you
I don't wanna fight at all

Lest I fall and the title are not in harmony. Seems pretentious.  Sorry, it hit a sour note with me.

More Sufjan on RP, more better

What happened to society? Profanity used to be taboo, now its the norm. Its nothing but negative energy, which we have enough in life to deal with. =/

I think your rose-colored view of what society 'used to be' like may be a tad unrealistic. The man's love has died. I think he deserves the right to rage and swear and mourn any way he likes. Art doesn't need censoring.

Agreed!
Shit song about shit talk 😄
I fall more in love with this one every time I hear it.  What a sad, beautiful piece. Been there.

it's an odd name for the song but there are worse words when you lose someone

Well THIS certainly got my attention.  How lovely.  Thanks RP

A song about love and not fighting anymore and you complain because he says the word shit once? Profane you say... Some people just chose to get offended by the most lame reasons

1. Renegade's complaint was much more general in scope than just this song, which he/she does not even mention.
2. It's not just "said once" in the song, it's in the very title.
3. I didn't get "offended" vibes from Renegade_X, more a sense of lament, which I share.

Maybe he should sing " talking sh-asterisk-t".  /s
Look at that photo. This is one different kind of guy!
(Really like his music.)

What's wrong with the anacronym for Store High In Transit?

I totally agree with your sentiment, but maybe not on this granular level.
Language is ever-evolving, I don't consider the phrase 'shit talk' to be that profane. It's just an expression. A half a century ago they used to say other things that today is sort of weird, but in their time it was just fine.

But positive vibes are preferred for sure!

With all due respect, I don't think this song is negative. If anything it's positive. The end 'hold me closely' is what you should focus on not the word 'shit'

First SS song I've ever liked.

In September 2023, Stevens revealed in a post on Instagram that he had been hospitalized the previous month and diagnosed with Guillain–Barré syndrome. He wrote that he was undergoing physical rehabilitation to relearn how to walk after the illness.

Very sad, just one bad break after another.
The love of Sufjan's life died in April this year (2023) and his heart is broken.
Send him your good vibes, prayers or whatever will help him keep his boat afloat.
Thank you.
What a very sad song; given the events happening in the world it does seem horribly apposite.
