I'm not scared of you
I'm scared of me right here
I'm scared of taking stuff
I give up every year
I'm not scared of your dark eyes
They mesmerize and soothe
But I don't mess with burning coal
Or anything I can't control

A love to make the day go by
Like a gentle breeze
A love to make the difficult
Disappear with ease
A love like ones I've read about
Or heard about in song
A love like that might come to me
But never for too long

I'm not scared of your lovely mouth
It's your voice gets in the way
Saying ordinary things
That float on air and stay
I look down at your fingers
Imagine them entwined
In mine, and then I look away
Afraid that I might find

A love to make the day go by
Like a gentle breeze
A love to make the difficult
Disappear with ease
A love like ones I've read about
Or heard about in song
A love like that might come to me
But never for too long

I'm not scared of you
I'm scared of what could be
Like certain drugs
One taste and then you're never free
To wake up every morning
Only one thing on my mind
To satisfy a hole
I'm pretty sure I'll never find

A love to make the day go by
Like a gentle breeze
A love to make the difficult
Disappear with ease
A love like ones I've read about
Or heard about in song
A love like that might come to me
But never for too long

A low temperature gal for sure.
What an unusual melody
I heard Her! I am so Happy to hear her again...We have waited at least 3 decades. To hear her again with her robust slap-downown startled me to be Honest... She is a missed voice for many of us that filled us before, to emerge again with the power and strength > leads me to look as to where she is in Music, She is HERE. I missed the heck out of her!!! She is one of my Favs.
Amazing work that has ample power to hit the emergence once again  if not more times, timeless.

I wonder how the 1983 me would react if someone told me that both the Pretenders and the Rolling Stones would be releasing new music 40 years later in 2023.  (BTW, I am enjoying both new releases. Just blows my mind to think about the longevity of some of these bands).

Yea, but the difference is one should have hung it up 20 years ago, and one is putting out relevant music with nearly the same edge she had 40 years ago.
wow, how do ya do it, Bill?   Goin to see these guys tonight!   In Omaha.....   RP Rules and is One with Everything
What a segue, Cocteau Twins to this. Sublime !
And the award for the least imaginative song title ever goes to...
If I didn't read the comments I wouldn't have known this is New Pretenders.  I would have sworn that Bill was playing an old track I never heard from the 80s.
It's smell like Pixies

I can't believe that 1/ there's a new Pretenders album and 2/ I missed it!
Thank you Bill! They're as good as ever!

I have recently fallen in love with her voice. After all these years.
Excellent!

Hell yeah! How excellent! Powerful singing, chiming, layered guitars, punchy rhythm section, and killer lyrics -- as usual!
Love this!  The picture of the child boxer is a piece of street art on a lane in the village of Dalkey in South Dublin, close to where I live.  I have known it for many years and it’s so lovely to see it included in the work of this wonderful artist.  Bless you Chrissie. ❤️
Instantly recognisable and as good as ever. Rock on, Chrissie
Wowzers! I was like, “I’ve never heard this before. Did I miss it? A hidden gem?” No! It’s a new release!! Love it! Hynde sounds exactly as she should.
Great great album cover art!
RP on as I was reading, became aware of a voice that was so familiar and had to get up and check it out! A new Pretenders release!!!!
A timeless sound!
There's no confusing The Pretenders with someone else. 10
Instant 10 from the Portland (UK) judges, on the opening bars alone. Keep rocking, Chrissie!
