What is Classical music? - Since the question came up, further down below in this thread with someone asking, if it was only the music of the classical period, there is a lengthier explanation of what the term entails on Wikipedia. And yes, there is Contemporary Classical Music, and Modern Classical Music, too...

short well-balanced melodies and clear-cut question and answer phrases.

mainly homophonic textures (melody plus accompaniment) but with some use of counterpoint (where two or more melodic lines are combined)
use of contrasting moods.

And if there is any sort of hypnotic rhythm or groove that is purely by accident. Fun when it happens though.
