For those who are interested in or curious about hi rez music files.

The place where I have been buying my files is having a 15th anniversary storewide sale at 25% off.  The usual best discount like this is 20%.

It showed up in my inbox this afternoon.

HDTracks.com    The link takes you to a good place to start looking. Code is  HDANNIVERSARY  It is good until 16 March midnight (GMT to be safe)

The website is a bit wonky moving around in it but it also offers short clips to listen to in case you have forgotten what some stuff is.  Use the back arrow at the top left of the album listing to get back to your search start, otherwise you will end up at the main page.

My wish list is going to be shrinking.

Just pulled the trigger on the 2023 colored vinyl version.

Yeah I'm a dummy.  Got the 2016 black vinyl version, too.

It's only money and the wife may shorten my life ...

my town library recently had it's annual book sale. I was in need of some reading so I made the trip. Low and behold they had a decent selection of used vinyl. So for a $1.00 each I picked up the following, all in near mint condition.
Bruce Hornsby - The Way it is
LeRoux - Last Safe Place (don't know anything about this band but for a buck I'll take a flyer!)
Sting - Nothing Like the Sun
Jackson Browne - Lawyers in Love
Huey Lewis and the News - Sports
Peter Gabriel - Plays Live
John Cougar Mellencamp - Uh Huh
John Cougar - American Fool
Dave Brubeck - Greatest Hits
Edgar Winter - Entrance
Neil Diamond - September Morn
Donald Fagen - The Nightfly

Not a bad haul but I have never borrowed an album from the library that didn't have a lot of hard miles on it with constant pops and crackle. I can't image anything coming from the library could be in mint condition.

$12.  Hmm....

What kind of condition are they in?

If in reasonably decent condition, that is a terrific catch.

I started with English Settlement, and the production there (Hugh Padgham, IIRC) is just wonderful, so the songwriting is framed properly.
Then there's the miraculous Skylarking, produced beautifully despite lots of band angst by Todd Rundgren. The band has since come around to admit that he did a great job.

The rest of their catalog is hit/miss, but full of bright songwriting and idiosyncratic stuff.

Here's an example of full throttle genius, though, when Todd meets XTC:

and nearly as wonderful
What makes this song great? Let's let Rick Beato do his stuff:

Which is all sort of funny because you liked Steely Dan (the band, not the Rp User), and that struck me as "if you like this, then you should like that." I'm not a fan/am unfamiliar with most of Steely Dan's output, though, so hey.

Range.  Quirky.   Some of XTC has very much of a 'I can't sit still' feel to it.

Looked around for 1080p YouTube videos and found this one which I quite enjoyed:

Their early period started with so much energy, apropos to the time, and then they slowed it down a bit. Here's another piece of pop perfection. How can we feed love on a farm boy's wages?

Like it or don't, no one likes everything that's good.

I don't know many people who liked XTC from the first note. It's subversive, funny, poppy, dissonant. Challenging and accessible, and sometimes that all comes on at once. They reward some listeners who put on headphones in a quiet room, and have some loud fun singalongs.
