Comes and goes
Like in fits and dizzy spells, like the weather
And it blows
Like it knows what's going wrong, like it's clever

Has a name but the name goes unspoken
Weather wanes were all twisted and broken
So soldier on, soldier on, soldier on, soldier on

Flailing to the whir of a snack machine
Muted screams of an old regime
And then, oh something gets in it
The nightshade gets in it

And we were all fast asleep, we were all so fast asleep
But you woke us, you woke us from the strangest dream
That an aubergine could ever know
Would ever know, would ever know

Lava flows over crooks and craggy cliffs to the ocean
And explodes in a steam heat fevered cyclical motion

Has a name but the name goes unspoken
It's in vain 'cause the language is broken
So cast your own, cast your own
Cast your own, cast your own

Soldier on, soldier on, soldier on, soldier on
Soldier on, soldier on, soldier on, soldier on
Soldier on, soldier on, soldier on, soldier on

Apparently, you are not alone in your opinion.
What interesting lyrics.... (I say that with positive connotations intended.)

Yes. But Bird is the most interesting.
He wrote and performed in the Muppet Movie "The Whistling Caruso"..so he will always be awesome in my book!
Doesn't work for me.

Why? That's too general a put down. What makes this crap? I just spent an hour ranting to climate change deniers. I need more from RP listeners, I fear. It seems musical to me, has all the notes and stuff. I can probably find sheet music and lyrics for it. Does it lose it's music-ness when you don't like it?

I always enjoy reading the posts from oldsaxon and Proclivities; so entertaining, and very often informative.  Thank you.   {#Angel}

Andrew Bird is, I guess, an acquired taste. He's quirky, insanely intelligent, and disgustingly talented (like Sheldon on "The Big Bang.") And from what I've read about him, he's the first person to acknowledge his eclecticism (not sure that's a word, but if it isn't, it should be.) I sorta love his music, for all of the afore-mentioned traits.  I've learned that Bird's music is not a casual listen. Maybe you can dance to it, but you'll probably stop in mid-step because even while you're moving, you're listening to the lyrics, and they'll make you suddenly wonder why you're dancing when you should be listening.

He's the David Byrne for a new generation. Quirky, innovative, and highly passionate. I bought his album based on his previous efforts and have not been disappointed. He is a genius.

And I like to whistle along, too!{#Whistle}

I love your description, Imic...and I bet Andrew would as well.  I just saw his Austin City Limits performance this week and he made a beleiver of me.  He's a very odd artist...but I likes my artists quirky.  He is very passionate about his music in performance...and a very talented musician...playing multiple instruments.  Much to admire here...including his whistling!

He was on Austin City Limits last Saturday night, seems to have a pretty odd stage performance. Didn't make me want to buy his album.

I quite like this song - an '8' for me. We'll see about the whistling over time - didn't bother me this time (first listen). The rest of the song is insistent and driving in a sneaky kind of way - which I am partial, too. Actually, I like things that strike me as sinewy and driving whether they are 'sneaky' or not.

In that case you'll likely be whistling along during future listens - even before you've quite realized what's playing.

I know I do.

Darn it.  My headache was almost gone until Bird-brain started whistling.  He might as well have shoved an icepick in my eye.

Are these people annoyed by whistling also not fans of 'The Andy Griffith Show' or 'The X Files'?  Both Theme songs have whistling.

I'd throw in The Shins and Belle and Sebastian.

Uhg...the section with the whistling makes an otherwise unremarkable song quite annoying.
Hard to believe he got his start with the Squirrel Nut Zippers!  His solo stuff is so diverse...and usually great.  A solid 8.
I love this little song. Here's a link to Andrew doing the song live on Qtv, from youtube. Really good music. {#Clap}

Oh no - whistling on every song? I was kind of enjoying the Belle and Sebastiane-y whimsicality of it here. But every song?

There's a little organ/key fill in there that reminds me of Van Morrison's Wavelength.  Very neat.
Simply brilliant. When you find yourself driving along, windows down, hearing this song
in your head and singing it aloud - Speaks volumes in my book.

Thanks for turning me on to it.

RP, is without question, the best radio station I've ever heard in my life... and I've lived a long time.

You have turned me onto some of the best music I've ever heard and given me many pleasant
travels back down musical history lane.  I thank you both for that.

All the best and continued good success.

I believe that whistling in a song always earns a 7 or above!  Maybe it's because it is the only sound I can make (vocally or otherwise) that seems to be on key.

The melody he whistles teases the song that is captured in a recording of postal workers stamping mail in Ghana. https://lint.vox.com/library/post/postal-workers-canceling-stamps-at-the-university-of-ghana-post-office.html I submitted it but it was thumbs-downed.

I hope whatever novelty this guy has wears off soon.
The second track played from this CD today...

Thanks so much for mentioning. Now I can't get casserole out of my head {#Headache}
Everytime I hear whistling now I think it's Peter, Bjorn and John ... it's refreshing in a breezy kind of way {#Whistle}
It really shouldn't be, and I don't know why, but this song is growing on me, and not in a bad fungus kind of way.

was he chanting "casserole" there at the end?

song's still a 7 though.  I also liked his last album—pretty diverse I thought
This tune was a free tune of the week on iTunes Canada recently - he was recently interviewed on CBC as well. Seems to be everywhere all at once.

I like it.

Sounds like Moody Blues. Not good.
Saw him last year in Seattle.  Really talented guy.
