We just took our first trip to the Big Island.  I swear this is the music they were playing while we boarded the Hawaiian Air flight.  If not, the Aloha was the same and I am getting sentimental already!  It was is beautiful and settled my flight jitters. This adds to my indelible memories.

Just spent several months living in HI, living and travelling, and came to realize how much Bill has Hawaiian music in his rotation when I would recognized things I had heard on RP. We heard some good slack key in Princeville on Kauai, along with some interesting stories of how the guitar and slack key found itself in Hawaii — that the Mexican cowboys (paniolos) who came for work, brought the guitar, and when contracts were done, they mostly left, but the guitar stayed, and the locals opened the tunings. Picked this up from a street vendor in Waikiki one year.
I play it in the wintertime to remind me of the beautiful beaches and weather of Hawaii. The entire cd is worth it.
So was the trip to Hawaii.

It takes me back each time to sitting on the plane waiting to go back to rush to mom's side as she laid dying in the hospital in Maui.  It's not a bad feeling amazingly enough......It was just surreal sitting amongst a bunch of passengers that were excited for their trip and in such deep contrast to the reason I was going.  Even so the music was soothing in my state of mind as well as the plane load of passengers that were all around me {#Good-vibes}

This used to play on KPIG a lot during the "advertisement break" they couldn't play on the internet, so they played filler music. And it was always something good like this, which is not qualified for filler music, but outstanding in its own right. Slack key guitar is an awesome genre.
