Pretty much the rest of the world feels that way.

Oh, you poor thing.  I mean that.  I hope you have since gotten past your envy.
Lack of lyrics frees you to feel whatever you want.
Beautiful segue from Judy Garland's Somewhere Over the Rainbow.

Somebody who doesn't understand slack key guitar
Simply Beautiful.  It will soothe what ails you.
We just took our first trip to the Big Island.  I swear this is the music they were playing while we boarded the Hawaiian Air flight.  If not, the Aloha was the same and I am getting sentimental already!  It was is beautiful and settled my flight jitters. This adds to my indelible memories.
GREAT!  Thanx RP!
I thought we were in for Legend of a Mind (Moody Blues) with the first few guitar licks
Quite likeable. Love the sound of new guitar strings.

Kind of a lullaby.

Will play for my grandchild.
Nice track
James Michener’s book “Hawaii” gives a decent history of the slack key....an excellent read, too!
Beautiful song. Was fortunate to see this performed live by the Slack Key Show on Maui a few years ago. Bringing back fond holiday memories!

Just spent several months living in HI, living and travelling, and came to realize how much Bill has Hawaiian music in his rotation when I would recognized things I had heard on RP. We heard some good slack key in Princeville on Kauai, along with some interesting stories of how the guitar and slack key found itself in Hawaii — that the Mexican cowboys (paniolos) who came for work, brought the guitar, and when contracts were done, they mostly left, but the guitar stayed, and the locals opened the tunings. Wikipedia echos this account, but also states that it is more complicated than that, but without elaboration. In any case, I was pleased to have heard and known who Sonny Chillingsworth was, and I have Bill to thank for sharing that music.

Paniolo = "Espanol" cowboys of Spanish heritage.
Way too overplayed. I have to keep skipping this. Overplaying has ruined it for me.
Slack key guitar always helps me unwind. Great to hear this after a long week.

What does this even mean?  Snarky jibe at slack key in general?  Complaint about the tuning on this particular track?  At best it's merely a truism.
All in the Ohana- mahalo!

I suppose detuning is a type of tuning, eh?  I'm a fan of Slack Key, really makes me feel the warm beach sun, gentle breeze (except at Kihei in Maui!) and watching the sun set on time like it does in Hawaii.  Beauty expressed musically....I'm gonna bump my 8 to 9 now...Long Live RP and DETUNED guitars!!
Best to tune your guitar before you record.
Wonderful atmospheric music

That was beautiful.
I have this album and can't remember the last time I put it on. What's wrong with me? Thanks for the reminder.
I have been Living in Hawaii for the past 40 years and yes its a beautiful thing Slat key just has that island vibe warm trade winds blowing and the sun setting into the sea!
Love it.  I have a couple slack key Christmas albums.  So good on quiet holiday night.

Picked this up from a street vendor in Waikiki one year.
I play it in the wintertime to remind me of the beautiful beaches and weather of Hawaii. The entire cd is worth it.
So was the trip to Hawaii.

Simple and elegant.......
made me think of the sad moments in George Clooney's beautiful film The Descendants when
a family paddles off the coast to drop the ashes of a lost love

beautiful music
If you can't visit Hawaii for some slack key you can certainly visit here and get all you want: https://www.dancingcat.com/
Yessssssssss!
Nice trip back to the islands on aloha Friday.
Ahhhh. Nice. Wish I could play like that.
Beautiful and relaxing for a Sun morning while making coffee
This is perfect.
Great tribute today on Google search to Duke Kahanamoku, on his 125th birthday...

Duke Kahanamoku
very soothing, like a lullaby. Pleasant.
Thought it was a john fahey christmas tune...very nice
I have had the pleasure of knowing Ledward Kaapana for some years.  Great musician and better person.  Was so nice to see him inducted at the Kennedy Center Presidents awards. He is a living legend and a proud Hawaiin!!!  Mahalo to you and the other great Masters of that music!!!

Very nice but there are so many of these wonderful guitarist around that it's difficult to tell them part! Still, not complaining!!

It takes me back each time to sitting on the plane waiting to go back to rush to mom's side as she laid dying in the hospital in Maui.  It's not a bad feeling amazingly enough......It was just surreal sitting amongst a bunch of passengers that were excited for their trip and in such deep contrast to the reason I was going.  Even so the music was soothing in my state of mind as well as the plane load of passengers that were all around me {#Good-vibes}

Yes me to, started out on KPig and when it went commercial I found this excellent station and have ben here ever since.. I'm in the UK and when I joined I think there was 6 or 7of us but it sure has a lot more listeners now and I hope I have been instrumental in that as I have spread the word at every oppurtunity. I stll use a reference to KPig on my email signature ... ''oinkandout and Bless the Lard''

Sounds really awesome on an AUX BOX !

Corey S.
snap...crackle....pop....still a good tune but I forgot how annoying vinyl can be.
It's cold outside, you can see the ice fog hanging in the air... ...why did I ever leave the islands? More importantly, will I ever get back? This music is great on it's own, but I guarantee it takes it to a whole new level when you're sprawled out on the hammock and the breeze is licking your face on another sunny day in Kailua (or Kaimuke, or Waimea, or...) Loves me some slack-key...{#Clap}

Whenever I need a stress buster, I look for slack key and queue it up.  Perfect for a long road trip....

R.I.P. Sonny -

Gravedigger...??
Please make sure this guy will not return!
Hey, wasn't this one of the old kpig.com "filler" songs?

Oh perfect... the sound of the ocean and this song, can't think of a better combination.

I agree about Keola Beamer - what an amazing slack-key guitarist.  I rather love this song, too!  {#Sunny}{#Meditate}

Ahh.  Checking weather in Poipu and checking the specials from Oakland to Kauai at Pleasant Holidays...  Great choice for a Friday afternoon.
Thanks, I needed that.
Wow, off to Amazon to make a late Xmas purchase for the fellow who turned me on to slack key many, many years ago.
this suuurrree is perutty......
Again, thanks RP for introducing me to another new artist!
3 words; Tree Mend Us.
Rating this even higher just for that stupid man/bird poster.
Thanks, Bill — very, very nice for New Year's Day on Kaneohe Bay! {#Yes}

Aloha,

This was sort of a breakthrough album for this genre, here on the mainland. Still play it. {#Yes}

So sick of this post  {#Arrowd} (and I'm sure god is too, don't piss her off)  10

Listening to this, when I close my eyes, I can feel the warm sun on my face, hear the waves breaking on the beach, smell the salt carried on the breeze and feel the sand between my toes. Kailua-Kona calls my name.

Have this CD, love it, but didn\'t know that Sonny had passed. Still, very much an old favorite and so glad to hear it on RP.
Perfect, perfect, perfect... great lead into the weekend -- just wish I was headed out to Sandy's or North Shore... someday I'll be home... until then, the music takes me there. Thanks!
This used to play on KPIG a lot during the "advertisement break" they couldn't play on the internet, so they played filler music. And it was always something good like this, which is not qualified for filler music, but outstanding in its own right. Slack key guitar is an awesome genre.
I'd like to hear more of this genre to compare it to the Missippi Delta open chord blues but I'm pretty weird about stuff like that. And more.

Lazy beautiful.
AH, Thank you RP..... Takes me back to my years on Kauai .... how about some more from the Slak Key Masters? wave

Unfortunately, Sonny died about 10 years ago. A truly sweet man - I was lucky enough to meet him a couple of times & to hang out in the studio while he was recording. Truly a magical talent.
Aaaah . . . dreamy.

Mahalo, Bill.
