A heaven, a gateway, a hope
Just like the feeling inside, it's no joke
And though it hurts me to treat you this way
Betrayed by words i've never heard, too hard to say

Up, down, turn around
Please don't let me hit the ground
Tonight, I think I'll walk alone
I'll find my soul as I go home
Up, down, turn around
Please don't let me hit the ground
Tonight, I think I'll walk alone
I'll find my soul as I go home

Ooooo x 8

Each way I turn I know I'll always try
To break this circle that's been placed around me
From time to time I find I've lost some need
It was urgent to myself, I do believe

Up, down, turn around
Please don't let me hit the ground
Tonight, I think I'll walk alone
I'll find my soul as I go home
Up, down, turn around
Please don't let me hit the ground
Tonight, I think I'll walk alone
I'll find my soul as I go home

Oh, you've got green eyes, oh, you've got blue eyes, oh, you've got grey eyes
Oo, you've got green eyes, oh, you've got blue eyes, you've got grey eyes
And I've never seen anyone quite like you before
No, I've never met anyone quite like you before

Thoughts from above hit the people down below
People in this world, we have no place to go
Thoughts from above hit the people down below
People in this world, we have no place to go
Thoughts from above hit the people down below
People in this world, we have no place to go
Thoughts from above hit the people down below
People in this world, we have no place to go
Oh, it's the last time, oh, it's the last time
Oh, it's the last time, oh, it's the last time, oh, it's the last time
Oh, I've never met anyone quite like you before
Oh, no, I've never met anyone quite like you before

Yo..!!
Well, interesting. I thought the "Oh, you've got green eyes, oh, you've got blue eyes, oh, you've got grey eyes" was from the Weakerthans, from the song "Wellington's Wednesdays" on their debut album. As that came out in 1997, they maybe heard it on the Trainspotting soundtrack.

There are several version of this iconic track. The most well known are the original 7" and 12" mixes for the 1982 singles which had a post-punk vibe reminiscent of their earlier incarnation as Joy Division, and a re-recorded version for their 1987 compilation Substance (probably the best known version due to its appearance on the Trainspotting soundtrack) which is more poppy and dancey, in line with their then status as club favorites. There have been a few other variations as well over the years including a short version on the soundtrack of the 1986 film Something Wild.
Unfortunately, RP approves careless uploads. Often the rushed or perhaps ill informed uploader provides an alt mix or in this case the "Readers Digest" condensed version. If you are a New Order fan you will want to dig for this track on  Factus VIII, arguably their best work. You will be rewarded.
Takes me back to my college days in the late 80s.  This song was de rigueur on dorm room playlists in that period of time (as well as several other New Order tracks).    If I close my eyes while it is playing, sometimes for a brief moment I get transported to a fond memory.  Always fantastic to hear it again.
Stopped me working for six minutes and fifty-five seconds. Arresting after all these years. 10!
Only 7.3?!? Get outta here!

Whomping track!
Good tune!
Definitely one of my top 3 songs by New Order - their prime time!

Oh, you've got green eyes, oh, you've got blue eyes, oh, you've got grey eyes

Drop a comment if you fell in love to New Order dropping beats in your bleached out shaved head in the back of your ratskin ford like we did!

Waiting for John Fahey? yea yea
Oh YES!!!
Sounds  like old Pure Prairie League..the chicken train song.
The USA is trainspotting with opiods.
Ah man, yes, takes me back to younger days when you could dance your ass off in the original 9:30 club at 930 F St. and knew you'd live forever. Thank you Bill! Thank you HFS!
 All day long with New Order.
Y'all remember that crew from Trainspotting? Well, that crew now exists in every small town and suburb of this country. It ain't jus Appalachia folks. This heroin epidemic is nationwide and killing over 25000 kids each year.

*boggle* but this is their BEST song.
The movie: very creepy and hard to stomach for my wimpy eyes.
The entire soundtrack to the movie: ABSOLUTELY ORGASMIC!! {#Clap}
an early '80s theme. agree that this Gen Xer is the wrong version.
Out standing performance.
At work. 4AM
About to fall asleep.
I hit PSD numerous times-all songs with < 100 BPM.

THEN  THIS!!!  YEAH!
I drove around with Power Corruption & Lies on one side and Factus on the other in my tape player for a whole summer - Lots of great memories!
Everybody in my mushrooming multitude of homeless camps loves this groovy song...  we be dancing like bowlegged gypsy muleskinners...
An absolute classic!  Always welcome to my ears.
Hahahaaha!!  I **just** had this soundtrack out & playing in MY car a few days ago!  Its a great one...!!  {#Bounce}
When I have the Trainspotting CD in the car, this is one that gets multiple plays. So, it must be good?
{#Bananajumprope}
Please make it stop.
SUPERIOR!!! {#Cheers}
TERRIBLE!!!
That's a relief after Kasabian.
Most excellent indeed.

Yes, - great isn't it?
Good in itself - but almost all of the tracks are exciting and part of the whole film experience. Sometimes I wish that I was that type of peron.
I always get instantly transported to an open dark club with a wide tile floor and start danceing my skinny bizness around and around, always!
It just keeps going and going
I don't mind New Order but this is pedestrian tripe = 1

And to RDO - I guess this means I won't make your Christmas card list this year.

One of my faves of ALL TIME!!    If you don't like it, then I hate your friggin' guts...{#Lol}

Everybody in my church loves this song...

Wow what a nice change,.thee memories....used to love these guys!
like it
On a plane last month flying back from Europe to USA, they had "The Best of Joy Division/New Order" as one of the few music selections.  This song was one of them and it made the flight oh so much better.......

PSD, anyone?
Lots of noise, but fun high velocity noise. If you can't dance to this, you must be dead.
I, too, took a date to see this. Old southern, conservative boy - teeheehee -that was fun.
We've been married 23 years - he's still old, southern conservative - I'm not. It works. Checks and balances. And he still likes seeing alternative (?) movies with me.

the original 12" is light years better than this. the original = 9 to 10.

  Agreed . The original 12" single version kicks it..

Always liked this song.  Sounds like they replaced their guitar strings with rubber bands.  The rest of this soundtrack is fantastic.
Damn, this is repetitive.{#Eek}

Original 12" version is much more powerful. Would be a 9.
More New Order please!
What a soundtrack!  I never knew who Brian Eno was before this CD.  Since then I have bought most of his prodigous ambient output.

Great song!!

We used to dance and rock out to this song at Buffalo State College during the mid-1980s while listening to WBNY.

Didn't see "Usual Suspects" but I went on a first date to see "Trainspotting." It was her choice to see this movie. Amazing soundtrack. Disturbing film, but that was the point, wasn't it? I married that date and now, over 10 years later, we're still together. Not really sure what that says, but it worked for us.
I think I just heard a record skip. Does that happen on the internet?

At the risk of stating the bleeding obvious, you could have walked out if you didn't like the film. Who forced you to sit through it?

oy vey....how do you really feal wackjob? excellent song from great movie.
This song is pure, unbridled joy! 10+
I do like New Order, particularly the last few albums, but this song sucks the big one, IMHO - bleak, tuneless, and plain tedious.
Great song!
Hey - this is fun! I wuz too busy in the 80s listening to Remain in Light over and over and over and over.... Clearly I missed out on some good stuff.
Sick. That was like eating sticky chocolate pudding there Bill with that New Order pairing.
Haven't seen the movie in forever, but I remember it being great. And true, this song is great on so many levels, hooHah!
great song...great movie.

Tony99 was refering to '24 hour party people' not 'Trainspotting you ranting muppet! Its good to see 'Trainspotting' did what it was supposed to do, in shocking the general public into the goings-on in the seedy disgusting world of Heroin addiction, in the hope that many kids of today wouldnt take that kind of filth.

Early New Order. Immaculate pop music. Timeless! This is also the first recording where Bernard Sumner's voice sounds halfway decent. When Joy Division turned into New Order subsequent to Ian Curtis hanging himself, the band could not really decide who would do the singing. Stephen Morris tried for a while, but it was soon decided that Bernard should pick up the mike instead.
