The man just showed little effort while playing. It was like he was doing something mundane like vacuuming. Saw him on Austin City Limits and he just oozed with confidence in his abilities to strum that axe.

Sadly I was made aware of Stevie as a teenager only because of his tragic death. American Treasure. If you can find the video of him playing the El-Macambo in Toronto, its worth the watch.
I really like Stevie Ray, he is great!!! I had never listened Stevie that often, prior to RP. Now, his tunes are starting to sound similar to each other. Still great!!!

Incredible bluesman whom I was lucky enough to see in 1983; worked his butt off getting the crowd into a frenzy which was achieved by 'Voodoo Chile' although I was hooked from the first note!!! Genius

I can't believe that anyone could possibly rate this song lower than a 10. SRV was simply inhuman in his playing. It's like GOD revealed Himself through the sounds coming from the angel that was SRV's guitar.

When it came out we first heard it on a distant AM station while crossing Texas. We loved Stevie and listened attentively, but with the reception it sounded like he was singing "Let's Go Shopping". My brain still goes there when I hear this song.
An average and rather derivative blues player. So much hype surrounding him at the time. I guess cuz blues was being given up for dead at the time and he was WHITE

I am a HUGE fan of this sort of thing. Sloppy, funky blues, with a wicked backbeat .... could it possibly be better? (Yes. With spicy pulled pork barbecue, beers on ice, and a slow sunny afternoon under the oak tree doing the tailgate thing just before the Yellow Jackets kick off.)
Not a big fan of this sort of thing.

I think Stevie is the amongst the best blues guitarists who ever lived, however I am not much into his music. Having said that, this is one of his songs that I do like!

I saw Mr Hendrix numerous times and loved everytime I saw him tho several times truthfully he wasn't in best form but still was pretty amazing. I also saw SRV lots of times and even when he was stoned to the bone he played the crap out of that guitar and would be the first to tell ya he loved Hendrix as well as the other blues greats, both had amazingly powerfull hands and just assaulted the guitar. Clapton said of the night Stevie died when he had the unenviable job of following Stevie everybody knew who was the BEST, I would have loved to watch all those players faces as they watched Stevie squeeze notes out of that guitar. Of course Hendrix did break ground with his guitar and amp and vitamin C helped him to go places nobody had been before

Jimi's talent was not really a matter of "getting to the well first" but a matter of sheer creativity, musicality and innovativity IMO.

Jimi revolutionized rock and created the experimental rock that continues to progress this facet of music. Stevie Ray revolutionized the Blues.
In my opinion, Jimi just wrote better, more beautiful music. The man created the entire show. It WAS the Jimi Hendrix EXPERIENCE. Where the centerpiece of Stevie's shows was his guitar playing, Jimi was an mystery inside an enigma wrapped up in a burrito. He completely took you on a trip to where you could never go alone.
I like Stevie, but most of his music is rehashing old Blues tunes. It would have been nice had he really started more of his own songs. But Jimi, in my opinion, was the better artist. He had the guitar, but I don't think he relied on it.
Totally agree with this, even though Stevie was good, he certainly was no Jimi IMO.

Good point, but given the fact that SRV is a rare find on any radio these days, any SRV is better than no SRV.
