Oh no, why can't you get along?
Okay, I know its not my place.
I've gotta say somethin'
I've gotta say somethin'
I've gotta speak

She'll never leave
And you can never throw her out
Impossible to conceive
You'd rather be with than without
That's just the fear talkin
That's just the fear talkin
That's just the fear

Don't let it take you
Like it nearly took me
Fear
Don't let it fool you
Like it nearly fooled me
Fear

Remember the good old days
Well love is like a dragonfly
So beautiful
It will die
And disappear before your eyes
I'm no philosopher
I am no poet
I'm just trying to help you out

Don't let it fool you
Like it nearly fooled me
Fear
Don't let it take you
Like it nearly took me

So you sit and wait
For another man to take your place
And when, when he comes
Would you welcome him with open arms

You'll feel a hundred years younger
You'll feel a hundred years younger
You'll feel no fear

Don't let it take you
Like it nearly took me
Fear
Don't let it fool you
Like it nearly fooled me
Fear
Don't let it kill you
Like it nearly killed me
Fear

And also tears for all who've died in the Maui fires recently.

hell yeah.   i wish i knew it when i was getting out of mine!!
…very strong World Party vibe in this one. I approve.
My advice to my Kids on the dangers of "Emotional Auto-Pilot".
Live in the Now or suffer "Shoulda, Coulda, Woulda" for the rest of your Days.
Thanks Gomez!
What fantastic guitar work! Acoustic envelope.
Absolutely love Gomez on my bucket list.
Beautiful segue to this from Solisbury Hill! Thanks so much!

Like hearing the ocean in a seashell? Yes, there's a waka-ja-wanka rhythm guitar, but hardly a Cale-esque, IMHO.

Vocally? No. Lyrically? No. Musically? I guess, if you squint your ears just right.

I thought gomez were from the states not merseyside.
What a great rhythm to this song.  Want to hear it again.

I have my android app synced to the website and I 'track' the songs my app plays so I can read/comment on songs w/ my work PC (MUCH faster for my old ass to type with a real keyboard, and navigate, etc.) - so depending on your setup, you can get a list of tracks played.

The main site still has:   https://radioparadise.com/musi...

And I was coming here to comment that I was looking forward to hearing this one today, and if I wasn't already at a 9 on this one I'd go +1...it's not quite a 10 to me....Long Live RP!!

I miss 'get miles' in the list of Gomez songs

Gomez played at Hardly Strictly Bluegrass this past weekend. Very good band, although the vocals were not mixed well. I would see them again. My wife who had never heard anything by them ended up liking them a lot. Even performed China Doll, a Grateful Dead song I don't believe I have ever heard performed by anyone else. Only through RP do I know them.
Look here Madam.....I am GOMEZ!    what you want,   Jewels, Gold?!?    I am a very ELEGANT band.....a very  EXTRAVAGANT Band!

Agreed!  I just went 8→9 on this track because the music is great....and another great message esp. with regard to divorce/ending relationships....Long Live RP!~~!
Beautiful textured guitar work
I've read that this is a "jaunty little tune about divorce" - which is funny because I usually congratulate folks who get divorced.  Nothing worse than being in a relationship that's not 100% (or should I say 50/50) - I'll also NOT think about the fact my honeymoon was on Maui when thinking of the subject of this song; nearly 10 years in and going strong.  Long Live RP!!  now pass that Maui Wowee CoJo!
Having just spent decent holiday bucks on RP merch I was hoping for less Gomez and more, say, Jason Isbell.
This song helped me get out of my marriage. {#Fight}  {#Beat} Which was a good thing{#Dancingbanana_2}

more than a little...
I can relate ad infinitum to the lyrics in this song. It is amazing that more people don't notice how similar all break-ups are... BTW Hamoa Beach is an incredible spot on the windward/ Hana side of Maui. I confess that I like the way it was spelled in Melville's time: "Mowee." In his seafaring days, Melville spent time in Lahaina; it was a major whaling port, and capital of what was then still called "The Sandwich Islands,' named after the Earl of Sandwich, Captain Cook's biggest sponsor. My first time staying there, at the Old Plantation Inn, after 3am, in full moonlight, I awoke and thought I heard Melville's despondent ghost muttering, sputtering, spouting nautical and cetaceous things, over by the fragrant blooming plumeria trees. Upon closer inspection, it was only the resident flock of mischievous mynahs (& maybe the effects of lots of Mowee Wowee and kava kava consumed at a local shindig earlier in the evening).
I hear JJ Cale sort-of.

Wowie!  What is Maui?!?!    Let me think for a minute .... nope, can't think of anything ... sorry, dude.

Got a couple of their cd's, and I'm quite happy with them.  I may have to pick this one up, too.  How's the rest of the album?

Sounds a bit more contemporary than I am used to from Gomez. Still like it though...{#Daisy}
Getting to know this band is a good thing.

What a cool song! {#Music}
Most excellent !

Oooo - Fraggle Rock!  I loved that show...Mokie was my mentor...

Who can predict what Bill will play?  We had a wonderful slack-key set, but he put Gomez here, so it wasn't a slack-key set, but a sort of tropical set. And now, we have CSNY... Oh, crap - gotta go turn this one up. Sorry. I had a thought, but it's gone now.

I am shallow...

Good Gomez; Bad Gomez.....which is this one? I would have to say this is one of their good ones for this scyzhophrenic band.

At least you think we're cute...wink, wink, nudge, nudge, say no maui.

I really like this song, but literally can't stand some of their other songs on this album.  I don't think I've ever had such polar opposite reactions on one album. {#Stupid}

Just love Gomez...."that's the fear talking" is a line I have repeated to myself a number of times after hearing this gem....

I don't know ... and even though I remember the Match Game very well, I don't know why this song reminds you of it. This was the song that started my love affair with Gomez.
...almost has a country flavour...but funki-fied, Gomez style :) Nice grooves :)

Yea! Gomez!
Hadn't heard them before RP, (tho I think they've played in my town ?!). I like them. 7.
This is very nice! Godlike!
This is't my favorite Gomez album, but it's grown on me.
Wonder what it's like to feel 100 years younger? I'd probably feel like that golden-hearted bowery hooker I was in my last life.

Me, too, and me, too.
MSN currently has an hour-long video of Gomez at a show they did in Chicago on April 13. I caught it the other night and watched it twice. This song and "Here Comes The Breeze" are especially excellent and inspired me to buy "Out West". I really, really like these guys - they are refreshingly musical, creative and dynamic. If you like Gomez, check out their performance on MSN - go to "Video Highlights" on the home page, then "Music" and the link is at the top of the column.
Seems like RP is doing a good job in bringing out the Gomez to people. THis station introduced me to a lot also.

Me too! I can't believe how great this band is and they've been around so long w/o much recognition in the US. I'm picking up on their older stuff now. I tend to get obsessed w/certain music and Gomez is my latest obsession.
I give it a 9, but that's just the beer talkin'.

Gomez rulez.
A little peppier than I'm used to from Gomez, but it's a good tune to work to.

this is a good song, and i like gomez a quite alot...but i still have to say that when the doves did this song it was called 'there goes the fear'. okay, it's a differnt song, but there are some striking similarites

okay, i'm an insane fan of these guys. also, live, they are one of the best bands i've ever seen. they have a ton of fun with each other and with the audience, makes for an elevated experience. and though i agree that they may never match the lo-fi brilliance of their early work, i like how we operate a good deal more than split the difference. change is good sometimes. 10.
Thanks to RP, I've come to know and love this band. It's almost all good! But: Seems that they've really hit on a good groove with both of the voices here -- and arranged some cool new and very diggable tunefulness behind!
One of the best albums of this year! I think going with a real producer on this one was a great decision.
time to pick up the new gomez. this is great.

No, and the whole album's great. Listened to it repeatedly on a long drive to Croatia, and it really grows on you. I've got all their albums. This one's different, but that's not bad.

This is a public beach that shares facilities with the Hotel Hana Maui. The beach has been voted one of Hawaii's favorite beaches
argghh old stuff so much better, new stuff so diluted by dave mathews esque bs. oh well, maybe once they're selling the albums they want the can go back to the vein of bring it on, liquid skin and in our gun. one can always hope. not that this isn't a decent album, just not nearly as musically challenging as their earlier efforts.
tonypf wrote:
However, I'm pretty sure Hamoa is not a Hawaiian word.
Phonetically it works... but I have no idea what it might mean. Of course, that has about as much value as me saying "well, chought *could* be an English word".
I liked this the first few dozen times. It's ready for a rest.
tonypf wrote:

Well, "moa" is Hawaiian for gecko or lizard, so I'd guess it probably is a Hawaiian word ("Gecko Beach--You'll want to stick around 'till your skin gets scaly!")

Good song. Based on the amount of play that they get, I think if Gomez and Calexico ever joined forces to form one Uberband, Bill would probably have a joy-induced seizure, which would look something like this or maybe this
