Oh, flew in from Miami Beach B.O.A.C.
Didn't get to bed last night
On the way the paper bag was on my knee
Man I had a dreadful flight
I'm back in the U.S.S.R.
You don't know how lucky you are boy
Back in the U.S.S.R. (Yeah)

Been away so long I hardly knew the place
Gee it's good to be back home
Leave it till tomorrow to unpack my case
Honey disconnect the phone
I'm back in the U.S.S.R.
You don't know how lucky you are boy
Back in the U.S.
Back in the U.S.
Back in the U.S.S.R.

Well the Ukraine girls really knock me out
They leave the West behind
And Moscow girls make me sing and shout
That Georgia's always on my mind

Aw come on!
Ho yeah!
Ho yeah!
Ho ho yeah!
Yeah yeah!

Yeah I'm back in the U.S.S.R.
You don't know how lucky you are boys
Back in the U.S.S.R.

Well the Ukraine girls really knock me out
They leave the West behind
And Moscow girls make me sing and shout
That Georgia's always on my mind

Oh, show me around your snow-peaked mountains way down south
Take me to your daddy's farm
Let me hear your balalaika's ringing out
Come and keep your comrade warm
I'm back in the U.S.S.R.
Hey you don't know how lucky you are boys
Back in the U.S.S.R.

Oh let me tell you, honey
Hey, I'm back!
I'm back in the U.S.S.R.
Yes, I'm free!
Yeah, back in the U.S.S.R.

Great song, on so many levels (PMC on the dru,ms,  for instance).
And IMNSHO, if you listen to it well, its spirit is quite opposite to your mainstream, politically correct comment. GOD HELP  US ALL.

I was born in 1955  and grew up 7 miles from NYC. We  had "duck & cover air raid drills in school until 1963, when I was in 3rd grade. I always expected nuclear Armageddon before I turned 21 in 1973. Read a biography of Putin:  "The Man Without a  Face, The Unlikely Rise of Vladimir Putin" by Masha Gesson.  Also check out: www.meduza.io/en  The English  version of Meduza, which is a group of Russian journalists that fled Russia for their own safety to Riga Latvia, 10yrs ago. 3 months ago, Putin called Meduza "an enemy of the state"! Read up & get informed before you make more silly comments!!

GOD BLESS (AND HELP!) UKRAINE!!!
I was 13yrs old when this album came out & immediately bought it & loved it!!!  I felt that his tune was very humorous!!  1968 was during the height of the COLD WAR!
GODLIKE!!! ICONIC!!!

Pretty good. Better musical backup but not quite as good as the cover by Sigourney Weaver...

That Sigourney can sure sing it.
Still slaps!!!

You might like to add George's All Things Must Pass.  And PF's The Wall.

As far as double studio albums from great bands go, I have to say that I rank this album just below:
1. The Rolling Stone - Exile on Main Street
2. Led Zeppelin - Physical Graffiti
3. The Clash - London Calling

I would add Steven Stills' Manassas, the D&D Layla and the Allman Broth. Live at Fillmore East! The Clash, not familiar with their work and what I heard on the radio not my cup of tea!

Great segue from Oi Va Voi's song about Gagarin :o)

Maybe more an homage to the Beach Boys and a sendup of the Cold War.  The Beatles admired the hell out of the Beach Boys, especially Brian Wilson.

love the back-to-back "Russian" themed titles!

That is nice.

So O_T_B, did you support NATO giving out membership to former Soviet Block countries in the Baltic and Poland?

Are you a fan of American exceptionalism?

Do you pine for the Cold War?

Are your family members looking forward to a nuclear war?

Do you believe that increased US agricultural and weapon systems exports make all this worthwhile?

Was it really that hard to figure out that I was joking?
I was 10. But I remember hearing this and it immediately made me happy. . . still does.

How marvellous is that?
"how lucky you are back in the USSR". Really! Did the Beatles have a back in the Apartaid song?

You kinda wonder where David A. Noebel is today and whether he's any less of an asshole.

Alive at 81.  Still a  Christian author with several letters after his name indicating degrees conferred by not-well-known colleges. Apparently still in the same political .... er, frame of mind.
What an Album.

Ah, the good old days in the USSR under the leadership of mister warm and cuddly: Leonid Brezhnev.

Perfect!  {#Roflol}
Theme song for "The Americans"?
"That Georgia's always on my, my, my ... mind". A girl, a region, a Ray Charles song. McCartney scores a rare triple entendre.

I remember hearing this tune when I was eight years old being played by some teenagers across the back lane.  My dad said that they were part of the Young Communists League.  I still don't know if he was joking or not.  But upon hearing it, I thought to myself, "I need to hear more of that!"
Rock on Beatles! Rock on!

"Back in the USSR" was the Beatles' parody of "California Girls". To wit: "Ukraine girls really knock me out (wee-oh-woo) and leave the west behind, Moscow girls make me scream and shout, and Georgia's always on my mi-mi-mi-mi-mind..." Great satire and a great song.

Great song from a great band.... But puh-leeeeze, can we retire some of these chestnuts? This one could go into the vault forever and I could still play it in my head. Same with \"Day in the Life\", \"Sgt Pepper\", \"Blackbird\", etc. \"Piggies\" is ok.

I've got a terrible weak spot for the Stones, but boy, Keith Richards lifted about every lick Chuck Berry once came up with. Just as he and the Stones took from Blues, Gospel, Soul, Jazz, Dylan and.....the Beatles all they could use. No problem, the way they did, but nevertheless, not that original as well. Asked what epitaph he wanted on his tombstone, Keith Richards answered; "He passed it on" (Victor Bockris' Keith Richards biography).
Love the Beatles, HATE this song. It just irrates me in that not-so-special way.

You have bad taste. This song ROCKS

Right on, Jacques! Everyone who remembers when this album came out knows that this was done as a tribute to the Beach Boys. It\'s beyond obvious that this is done with real affection for a group the Beatles really respected.

Um... yeah, funny... but, all joking aside McCartney wrote this as a "nod and a wink" to Mike Love (Beach Boys) with whom they spent a few hippy-dippy weeks in India with the Maharishi Mahesh Yogi (Sexy Sadie...)... this song was written expressly to sound like the Beach Boys. It's too obvious a stylistic rip-off to be anything but a "tribute/tip of the hat"... Still, I wonder what ever became of these "Beatles"? Did they ever make it? That being said I'll go play my white album CD... number 9, number 9, number 9... Cheers Jacques Radio Paradise: What Radio Could Have Been
