These men that I've been seeing, baby
Got their soul up on the shelf
You know they could never love me
When they can't even love themselves
But I need someone to love me
Someone to really understand
Who won't put himself above
Who just loves me like a man

I've never seen such losers, Darlin'
Even though I tried
To find a man who could take me home
Stead of takin' me for a ride
And I need someone to love me
I know you can
Believe me when I tell you
You can love me like a man

They all want me to rock them
Like my back ain't got no bone
I want a man to rock me
Like my back bone was his own
Darlin', I know you can
Believe me when I tell you
You can love me like a man

I come home sad and lonely
Feel like I wanna cry
I want a man to hold me
Not some fool to ask me why
I know you can
Don't you put yourself above me
You just love me like a man

Idunno, the whole Harvard Grad tryin to sound like white trash thing never did it for me. Not that she ain't talented.

So I pulled a couple of shifts at an out of state ER some decades ago and after I'd been there for a few hours, the charge nurse pulled me aside and told me there were basically 4 kinds of people coming to their ER; white folks, white trash, black folks and another I'll leave to your imagination.  He expected me to treat each type accordingly.  So there you have. it   The phrase "white trash" is simply a cover to legitimize the complete lack of status accorded to some/most/all black folks.  I find it intolerable then and now.  I think an apology is in order.
Never mess with an American holy grail, folks, although this may just be an average tune, done so and so.

"White trash"?!?... for what, loving and performing blues music?  Mastering the slide guitar?  Bonnie ain't tryin' to do anything.  She's doing/done it for over 4 decades.

Also, she never graduated Harvard so you're wrong about that too.

...and a maybe new handle for you: theuninformedking.

Sounds like she attended Radcliff for two years. Fairly close on that one.

You're such a douche. And that's a polite way of saying about you.

On this, Bonnie gives ABSOLUTELY one of the best, most sensual deliveries of all time, and having seen her live at Red Rocks, WOW

Imo, there isn't ANYTHING Bonnie does that doesn't make me love her all the more!! And John, would love to share summa that kush with ya, and catch ANY show at Red Rocks!! Saw a video of Lindsey Stirling done there....quite the talented young lady THAT one is, too!! ✌️ And, RR is the schitz, for live shows! Awesome gift from on high!!
Bonnie rocks, there's no doubt about that. She also lived through a life of challenge. You can hear the experience and insight in the lyrics she writes and the deep. When she sings about men, I'm right there with her yearning for a REAL man.

Bonnie at her very best.  I'll always thought her voice was most suitable to blues.

What a song! I'm so glad I got to see her — one time with Stevie Ray Vaughan at Red Rocks in the mid-80s — because: SHE JAMS!

One of my most favorite guitarists.  Boy can she play the blues.  Clean, soulful and complex (but not frenetic like so many others).
Nice guitar.....love that slow blues!
Aw, hell ya!  Love this tune, and this version is sweet.
Dang!

Yes sweet Bonnie you may! Cuddle it, grab it and pull it with those wicked fingers, for a delicious long time, then kick it right down the steps when your done with my subservient listener ass!  Oww and Yumm, woo-hooo!

Very talented. Classic.  Great singer. But she bores me. Always singing yearning mansick and lovestruck or lonely. Every song of hers I've ever heard is a variation on another.

Isn't that really all blues songs? And I don't hear anything wrong with it.

Yup, same here. This is the real deal, back to basics, smoky basement club, seductive blues. The dog's bollox. She sings that to me, I'm an upright fellow all night. 9 from the aroused Nottingham jury.
Kind of got burned out on her a while back...thx for the subtle reminder of her immense talent
I admire Bonnie Raitt, and love her music even though all her songs sound pretty much the same. This is one of her best.

But, then again, If anybody's worth getting bent out of shape for, or with,  Bonnie 'd be our gal!
 mrdak wrote:

Sure, I like them broads too, but Bonnie Raitt was kickin' it out both pants legs before the Chicks were gleams in their daddy's eyes. She paid her dues on the blues circuit when women just didn't DO that sort of thing. Along with Janis, she opened the door, hell, they kicked it off the hinges, for all the rocking, bluesy women who've come along since.

Bonnie is an original. An artist true to her calling. Oh hey, she ain't such a bad guitar player neither.

Saucy.... {#Yes}
Best female slide guitar player.

And she's spitting out quadruplets like she's on guitar fertilization pills. {#Lol}

Yup. This is pure, down 'n' dirty, bare-bones, ageless shitkickin' blues. Blues like this will be played and sung for as long as humans get the blues. 8 from the Nottingham jury.

Blues can get insanely boring, especially if its not played well... Bonnie is fantastic, and her vibrato on the slide guitar is to die for, and a fantastic singer she is too

Hysterical!
Awesome voice, amazing performance.  I'm not particularly fond of the blues — but Bonnie Raitt really floats my boat.  More, please!

One of the great early Bonnie songs from her first few albums. Sippie Wallace wrote this.
