So I pulled a couple of shifts at an out of state ER some decades ago and after I'd been there for a few hours, the charge nurse pulled me aside and told me there were basically 4 kinds of people coming to their ER; white folks, white trash, black folks and another I'll leave to your imagination.  He expected me to treat each type accordingly.  So there you have. it   The phrase "white trash" is simply a cover to legitimize the complete lack of status accorded to some/most/all black folks.  I find it intolerable then and now.  I think an apology is in order.

Bonnie rocks, there's no doubt about that. She also lived through a life of challenge. You can hear the experience and insight in the lyrics she writes and the deep. When she sings about men, I'm right there with her yearning for a REAL man.

Sure, I like them broads too, but Bonnie Raitt was kickin' it out both pants legs before the Chicks were gleams in their daddy's eyes. She paid her dues on the blues circuit when women just didn't DO that sort of thing. Along with Janis, she opened the door, hell, they kicked it off the hinges, for all the rocking, bluesy women who've come along since.
