Oh he deals em off, off the top, ties em off
Fills it up, with his past, gets carried away
Oh half his life, a hand me down, wasted away
Of he fills it up, with the love, of a girl
Oh he left it alone, drilled the pain, with money to buy
How he makes his getaway
How he makes his getaway
Oh he chose a path, heavy the fall, quarter to four
Fills his night, with the thought, of a girl
How he makes his getaway
How he makes his getaway
How he makes his getaway

That means you were eleven when they released Ten, which had eleven tracks,  and was released twenty-two years ago, and.... where was I?

Thank You!  It is also an accurate depiction of the polar response pattern of a "binaural recording microphone head". Very interesting!  GREAT TUNE!!  Thanx RP!
This sounds a little bit like "while my guitar gently weeps", isn't it? or maybe is just me
EXCELLENT! ...Recorded, specifically to be listened to on headphones! "Binaural" is a type of recording with headphone playback in mind. It sounds super-excellent in FLAC w/ great phones, amp & DAC. Thanx RP!!
I like it

heavy snow storm and I got this TCM Fred Astaire movie muted while Vedder sings, volume appropriately cranked
One of Pearl Jam's best albums!
How is that Eddie Vedder can smooth away my overloaded brain, making the rough, gnarly wall  I'm facing completely doable.?  He does.

To all the "I hate Pearl Jam but dig this song" folks out there, Pearl Jam is not Ten and Versus.

They have been around and maintained a very large fan base because they are a collective of 3 brilliant songwriters and two other viruosos who also contribute to the writing.  Each of the 5 has different influences they bring to the table.  Each of them gets the time to stretch out and pursue other musical and art projects.

They are not Eddie.  They are built on the foundation of Stone and Jeff who were writing separately and together many years before PJ.  They have a top ten lead guitarist in Mike and a top five rock drummer in Matt.  They are a band in the true sense.  Check em out.

hola,  that's 'cuz this is actually stone gossard. i mean it's pjam but it's really gossard. he wrote it,laid it all out, played guitar, even recorded it at his studio i think. plus the binaural recording techniques weren't their ideas either, they used a different producer...plus throw in matt cameron....
Great song even better live to open a show.  For those that can't stand PJ, check out their Yield album and reevaluate.
This okay...even though it's Pearl Jam.
When they are good, Pearl Jam, they are really good!
Definitely one of the better PJ tracks! Diggin' it.

Not cool!!!!... I hit the rate button too fast and got the default rating of 5... I then tried to re-rate it 9... 3 times, but seems my rating of 5 has stuck... What up Bill?? That was a mighty fine track

Edit: Ok so now my 9 rating shows... I wonder if it shows 3 times {#Whistle}

I've long considered McCready's fretwork underrated. This is one reason why. Richards-like rhythm chops.

So glad RP is exposing its listeners to the often overlooked Binaural album.

Many of the songs are of a mood and instrumentation that is quite differnt from the early PJ and some of their latest stuff.

This is one of my faves.

Interesting comment about "fell out of favor"  - While they stopped selling 15 million records after Vs, they still sell out arenas  - they can sell out two shows at Madison Square Garden - and have a loyal fanatical following (me included) Best live rock and roll band in America.

such a very cool transition from Loop Guru Single Orphan First Year Camel
Great album by a band that most people don't understand how diverse their music is.

Comes from having 4 very very strong melody/music composers with varied influences - sorry Mike - and a great lyricist.

Definitely an underrated but very fine album.

If all you know is Ten and Vs - try this out.

Or get the Lost Dogs package of rarities.

This gives me a whole different perspective on Pearl Jam!

Wow. I've only heard this song live before today. This studio version is friggin' dy-no-mite! I'm wondering if this whole album warrants a purchase?

Don't worry. Based on album sales numbers you weren't alone.  But now you can make amends and join those of us who stuck with them.  More importantly, don't miss them live next chance you get.

As of 2000 this is where there early album sales were:
*Ten : 11 million copies in the US (last certification 8/06/99)
*Vs. : 6 million copies in the US (last certification 3/16/95)
*Vitalogy : 5 million copies in the US (last certification 10/13/95)
*No Code: 1 million copies (last certification 1/08/97)
*Yield: 1 million copies (last certification 3/13/98) (this is approaching 2 mil)
*Live on Two Legs: less than 1 million
*Binaural: approx 1 million**(gold certification 6/25/00)
*2000 bootleg series: approx 1.25 million combined**

Pearl Jam - Of the Girl
Modest Mouse - Missed the Boat
Tori Amos - A Sorta Fairytale

INCREDIBLE SET!!!!!!! Thanks so much!
The guitar sounds like Keith Richards getting into the groove from within a cellar, but it's enchanting!

This is my favorite Pearl Jam album. Very diverse.
This is one of Pearl Jam's best albums. Mature songwriting, textured sound, not too much wannabe teen angst.

nice
Many years ago I was visiting my sister in San Francisco. She lived at 8th and Lincoln, right by the park. One day, Pearl Jam was playing in the park, and we could hear it quite well from her living room. After a while, I said, "But that's Neil Young singing." We were close enough to be able to tell. Later we heard that Ol' Neil pinch hit for Eddie. It was a great afternoon.
