Got me a pocket full of change
Said, I just got paid today
Got me a pocket full of change
If you believe like workin' hard all day
Just step in my shoes and take my pay
I was born my papa's son
When I hit the ground, I was on the run
I had one glad hand and the other behind
You can have yours, just give me mine
With the hound dog barkin' in the black of the night
Stick my hand in my pocket, everything's all right
I just got paid today
Got me a pocket full of change
Said, black sheep, black, do you got some wool?
Yes, I do, man, my bag is full
It's the root of evil and you know the rest
But it's way ahead of what's second best
the beginning of this song always makes me think it's going to be this song:
"...i can't sing i ain't pretty and my legs are thin. don't ask me what i think of you..."
oh, well.
Billy Gibbons at his BEST ~~~

Good times............
Heard this for the first time in a smoke-filled apartment, volume at a modest level, but all twelve of us were solemnly quiet. Album cover got passed around with reverential consideration of art and liner notes. I remember asking for the album cover a couple of extra times, astonished at this full-on funky blues and the three weirdos that created it.
Blew my mind. Still does.

Women still make about 3/4 of what men do while doing the same jobs as the guys. It's been like that for decades.
ZZ Top was a great band but they seemed to pretty much hang it up after they came out with Eliminator and Afterburner. A shame.
Nonsense. Controlling for education and work history, woman make 98% of what men make, and that difference is accounted for by men be more aggressive in seeking raises and new work (best way to get a raise). The other evidence is that in blind studies, women are slightly MORE likely to be hired.
It is the 1st of the month

Nah, listen to Rhythmeen. It rocks.
wicked tune just the same
Is there a hidden message in this 3-song set?
Gender pay gap was $0.17 in 2015 in the US, down from $0.36 in 1980. Given that this condition has persisted for millennium that is significant progress. Not done yet, but getting close to the point where gender discrimination isn't the primary reason for the inequity.

ZZ Top RULES, one of my favourite music bands!
I had a bass just like that around 1971 except Fender had reissued it as the Fender Telecaster Bass. (It had) One single coil pick up, one tone and one volume control, and a neck like a log. The tone was great.
On the surface of that comment, that sounds illegal what they're doing.
What do they do now (asking seriously by the way)?
Whatever they want to do.
What do they do now (asking seriously by the way)?
Well they suck ass of course.

I love it.... And the segué into James Brown's "I Feel Good" is unexpected, but somehow perfect... {
Maybe went a lil commercial, but got to see them here in a real small hall Oct 2008.
Shit howdy was it fun, They don't take themselves seriously, they were just plain having fun, enjoying being enjoyed.
Kudo's for RP to bring out golden oldies but I don't come here for ZZ Top.
You don't live in Texas, do you?
Billy, Frank and Dusty are de riguer 'round these parts. Now if Bill would just play 'Manic Mechanic' once in awhile...
Yep, love those days.....this one sort of reminds me of the group Mississippi
They do seem to be a bit underrated.

Agreed, and how apropos is "Just Got Paid?"
"Jesus Has Just Left Chicago" is on that list, too.
Very apropos for Friday... love it...
Um, I get paid every other Wednesday... Still, I love to do that whole "pocket full of change" thing... *g*

Yeah, the first two albums contain some great Texas-style blues-rock.

OH Yea!
Pretty please, Bill?
You're so right. My Republican friend moved out of Austin because she was tired of the intolerant behavior she was getting from liberals.
Ehh? Someone had to leave a city because she did not like the political climate? I mean — perhaps that was not the only factor?
You're so right. My Republican friend moved out of Austin because she was tired of the intolerant behavior she was getting from liberals. That opened my eyes to strive to be an open minded liberal, which is kinda boring, but much more fair.
Let's leave these good ol'boys alone and just enjoy the music.
Not that I wanted to turn this into a political discussion... but...
It is nice knowing there are folks on the left that see this. One of my best friends is a socialist, which makes for very interesting conversations as you could imagine. It's not the fact that someone is "left" that I dislike. It's when they are so sure that anybody that disagrees with them is "evil"... and this is coming from the supposed tolerant crowd.
So, squidish, I probably agree with you on very little politically. But I sure have a ton of respect for you after your comments.
The unfortunate part for your friend is... Austin is such a great city, too bad she misses out on that due to intolerance.
"Roommate must be open minded. No Republicans allowed"

Seriously? Are you really serious?
This is just like the craiglist ads from people looking for a roommate.
"Roommate must be open minded. No Republicans allowed"
The laughability of all those ads are lost on those that are so sure they are so "open minded". The left is amazingly funny and they don't even realize it.
If you can't listen to ZZ Top because they are pro-Republican, I must be a saint being republican and a music fan... because if I was as judgemental as you, I wouldn't be able to listen to the radio at all.
Amazing...
I know nothing about their politics, I do know that Billy Gibbons donates a lot of money to art museums and to aging blues stars.
Ah-haw-haw-haw....
Check out Clapton's Crossroads benefit DVD (the Dallas one in 2004, I think). I'm not going to say anything more, ah-haw-haw-haw.
What about 'Manic Mechanic'?
The Top's early stuff is by far their best. Nice to hear Bill play some stuff many people dismiss as 'classic rock'.
c.
Yes, yes, yes, the first 3 CDs are great stuff. And Tres Hombres has been reissued with some bonus live tracks.
It sounds better than ever!
Reminds me of another band that was just starting at the same time: Frank Moreno and Mahogany Rush.
That would be Frank Marino...
