We sold our 1987 Honda Prelude in 1990 when our first son was born and the car seat wouldn't fit (adult in the small back seat). A man bought it for his teenage son who promptly totaled it one month later. Your post makes my eyes well up. We loved that car.

I've read a few of the comments, and there are some snarks, and you're entitled. I love Neil Young. His voice sometimes drives me bugf*ck, but he always gets his point across. And usually, he does it with style.
I love this particular song because it was written for a vehicle and not a woman or a cause. And it always creates visions of sunshine, sand, and a VDub van parked on the beach, with the prospect of a bonfire and a view of a moonrise or a really great sunset. That he can conjure an image like that should be testament enough that he knows how to turn a phrase.

If anyone has seen the HBO sports documentary about the 1980 US Olympic Hockey team (the Miracle on Ice), this is the song that is played over the closing credits. They show all the pictures of the players when they were youngsters and what they all did after the Olympics, and where they are now. It's very cool, and it's the perfect song to fit the mood of the story.

I was playing in a duo and we'd just finished packing our gear after one the worst places I'd ever played. I wanted to pack the whole gigging thing in, sell the gear and never have to deal with drunk hillbillies again. My buddy went to get paid while I waited in the truck, angry and tired. This song came on and it changed my whole outlook on everything.
I'll never forget how all the negative left and I felt a very comfortable peace.

Was this a positive review? Nothing about his show that I saw at the Santa Cruz Civic some years back could remotely be called "ugly." In fact, his guitar solo on "Hurricane" remains in my memory as the most passion-filled rock exhibition I've yet had the opportunity to witness.Ahhhh, Neil Young. I think you are my favorite. <3
One of the best-sounding live recordings I can recall. I'm listening to the "truly awesome" AAC+ stream with good ear buds and I thought it was a studio recording until I heard the applause.

Is this really about a car? It's so wistful and sweet. I never felt that way about a car.
