Ah, watch out, you might get what you're after
Cool babies, strange, but not a stranger
I'm an ordinary guy
Burning down the house

Hold tight, wait till the party's over
Hold tight, we're in for nasty weather
There has got to be a way
Burning down the house

Here's your ticket, pack your bags
Time for jumpin' overboard
The transportation is here
Close enough, but not too far
Maybe you know where you are
Fightin' fire with fire

Ah, all wet, yeah, you might need a raincoat
Shape down, dreams walking in broad daylight
Three hundred sixty-five degrees
Burning down the house, huh

Ah, it was once upon a place
Sometimes I listen to myself
Gonna come in first place
People on their way to work
And, baby, what did you expect
Gonna burst into flames
Ah

Burning down the house

My house, s'out of the ordinary
That's right, don't want to hurt nobody
Some things sure can sweep me off my feet
Burning down the house

No visible means of support
And you have not seen nothing yet
Everything's stuck together
And I don't know what you expect
Staring into the TV set
Fighting fire with fire
Ah

A remastered 40th Anniversary version of the excellent concert film "Stop Making Sense" is now playing at a theatre near you (hopefully). Don't miss this chance to see one of the greatest concert films ever on the big screen!

I don't believe you understand the word "trite".Rusted Roots took a shot after TH broke up but came up short. Face it. They're one of a kind.

Yeah.  There were SO many bands that sounded like this back in the 80s.  :eye-roll:
EXCELLENT!! I bought this album right after it was released & almost wore it out. I still love it!! Thanx RP!
Trite.
Unbelievable live show in the 80s after 'Remain in Silence'.  Adrian Belew fitting in so well, making amazing music and noise.

Hahahaha!
Loved playing this DJing in the 80s,   great song      that said  it can get overplayed quickly.     GREAT CHANGE OF PACE is to hear TOM JONES singing this song    it is simply fantastic

For one thing, this has more dynamic range than 10 or 20 average modern recordings.
Ugh! Can't. Keep. Still! Gotta. Move!
Tom Tom Club birthing!?

Bit late to the reply but... TTC was a side-project from Frantz and Weymouth dating from 81'.

Yes this album and all of their catalogue sound fantastic on high end audio, and fortunately all of it is available in HiDef!  Highly recommended.

You bet! The Heads at their best. I remember seeing them on SNL in the 70s and finding them interesting but I didn't really get into them that much till this song. Then I started really paying attention. Wish I'd have gotten on board earlier!
Genius Album....
If you have heard this somewhat recently, then it is super annoying song to hear again.

If you haven't heard this in awhile, then the first few notes will make you turn it up to 11 and wiggle your butt throughout the whole track.

So true!

Also, this song is a perfect example of how context while listening can really change the meaning...either having a house party or a pre-game/test/whatev listening to get jamming...this tune rocks!

Agreed. Except for a few tunes heard a lot less often — here and on FM — there is not a lot of there there.

I read that this track was a reaction against the electronic scene at the time - ie burning down 'house music'. There was a lot of strong opinion at the time and many people saw the new electronic dance scene as soulless. I always thought that it was rather interesting when David Byrne then embraced electronic music later in his career when joining forces with mainstream house bands for tracks like 'Lazy'.
Nice!

Not my favorite version, but always a solid offering.

Tom Jones and the Cardigans do a wonderful cover of this song.

Playin' with matches here. Hey David Byrne...come over here...c'mon...open your mouth. Wait you already did! {#Fire}

Bill loves Byrnin' down the house.
I was shocked to discover that the Talking Heads final tour was actually their 1983 one. I could have sworn that they last toured in 86' or 88'. You know, as support for Amnesty Int. or something. Too bad.
amazing song...phrasing, drumming heavy...great. what a freaking shame that I cringe everytime I hear it for the 12,000,000,000th time. not your fault RP, the damage is done. deeper cuts please?
At least an 8.

I hated this the first time I ever heard it. Time and excessive airplay (what *do* people see in this?) have done nothing to improve my opinion. If you must play Talking Heads, please stick with early albums like Fear of Music or Remain in Light. This makes me want to smoke crack.
I actually enjoyed this track the first few thousand times, but I'm well over it now. Maybe play the live version from Stop Making Sense instead? I completely agree that TH material gets pretty dodgy beginning with the very uneven Speaking in Tongues, and it's a rapidly accelerating downhill trip from that point into the insufferable black hole that is Byrne's post-TH career. However, Fear of Music, Remain in Light, and especially the very fantasmagorical Name of This Band is Talking Heads (esp that thunderous expanded lineup) are all loaded with great stuff.

No need to hear this here - we have Clear Channel for that.
Great band with a vast library of material to choose from.. so please give this one a rest! Already overplayed to death on commercial radio.
ARGH!!! Please refrain from playing this crap anymore. I can hear this on my local FM station and I hate that station...
This is an excellent song to ride my horse to. He loves it!

This IS a good tune, but it\'s been overplayed and - I can\'t believe I\'m saying this - it\'s beginning to sound a little dated.
