Half the people you see these days are talking on cell phones
Driving off the road & bumping into doors
People used to spend quite a bit of time alone
I guess nobody's lonely anymore
'cept you & me babe 'cept you & me
It's raining sheets of rain everything is cold and wet
Nobody's going out of doors
They're all at home living it up on the internet
So i guess nobody's lonely any more
'cept you and me babe 'cept you and me
People meet somebody new & they leave the rest behind
We can have it all even though our lives are short
The kids they'll get used to it it happens all the time
No one is even surprised any more
'cept you and me babe 'cept you and me
I take my coffee black or with a little cream
I wake up every morning with the sun
I wanted to be your man that was nothing but a sweet dream
I always tell the truth to everyone
'cept you and me babe 'cept you and me

Simple arrangement, good acoustics and superb guitar picking.  Oh and an easy, clear voice, too.  An easy 7 plus.

I'd say the pick'n alone deserves at least an 8⃣
I first discovered Greg at the Folks Festival in Lyons Colorado (Hello fellow Festivarians!) many years ago. Still love him today.

Underrated, especially when you consider he wrote it ~20 years ago.

wise lyrics 20 years ago, and increasingly sad but true today.
6 + 2 for the lyrics.
The tune sounds very familiar; it's reminding me of a French-language song that's played here on RP.  Anyone know if this is a cover of that other song?  Wish I knew the title or the artist.
Never heard of him before!  He's got a raw feel, somewhere between Mark Knopfler and Johnny Cash.  Fantastic lyrics on this one, too.  Prescient!  7 crept up to 8 before the end of the song.
This guy... never heard him before and have heard him twice today.  Thanks RP

It's crazy that this song is almost 20 years old. This is just as the internet and cell phones started taking over... it's gotten so much worse. Out on the streets I often feel like I live in a world of zombies.

Get's worse every day.  I'm trying to do my part to fight it and keep my kids from turning to zombies too, but it is an uphill battle.

In another 20 years we'll probably look back on the good days when everyone was just tied to their iPhone instead of being actual zombie robots with chips in our heads telling us what to do all the time.  Or we won't because the chips in our heads won't let us.
Or if you're more  adventurous. go farther south and visit Croton, Iowa on the banks of the Des Moines River.

Across the river is where they fought a civil war battle.

The most northern battle fought in the Civil War.

"Out on the streets"?
Wait... it's 2022... you actually leave your house?
You all should visit Greg in SE Iowa. The boot heel.

But somewhat near Mahareshi University in Fairfield, Iowa. It's the school where they perform mass levitations under a gold dome   Seriously, that's what they claim.  Look it up.

That school used to be Parsons College. That's the school Bruce Jenner graduated from before he won the Olympic decathalon.

Great voice. Great song.

Time to revise your definition.

People walking and talking to themselves.  I feel it "Cell phone psychosis."
rilassante - davvero bella questa melodia e bravo compositore
That voice is amazing...and the lyrics made me smile.
What is that??

New favorite tune it is

Easy 9 from this here cowboy without a horse
So frustrating to attend Greg Brown's live shows: folks chit-chatting, coughing, etc. His deep voice doesn't carry so well above the noise. So thank heavens that RP provides me a little serene taste every now and then.
That just seemed so raw and honest.
Voice sounds a bit like Nick Cave.

Nice.
I'll start with a 7 and see where it goes!
easy 8 from me {#Smile}

Greg Brown is a treasure; I will always listen to what he has to say.
