JIMI.  Wow, as I listen to this, I get caught in my own feedback as my brain tells me this is from the 60's and my heart and ears tell the ole' brain that there's some really cool, new sounding tunes coming down the pike!  I wish Jimi was still with us — it's hard to imagine what else he would given us, but we know it would set the bar incredibly high.

I agree about the album but, although this song is definitely one of my 4 or 5 favorites, both Voodoo Chile's always blow me away everytime in a more visceral way than this one does, much as I love it. And give me the 13-minute version every time!

Thanks.  What a picture.  Just got back from Seattle.  Hendrix museum.  There's a JBL theater there with no one in it and continuous close up Hendrix footage.  Even more amazing than when he was alive and I was listening to him.  And a great factoid:  Hendrix used a comb and wax paper to make the buzzing sound on Crosstown Traffic.  Just decided that is what the song needed on the spot in the mixing room.

You had to see Jimi live to really see how good he was. I saw him with the Experience at the Bank Street Theatre. He said he was having equipment problems and was going to jam a bit to figure things out. That meant 20 minutes of a new tune he was working on - Red House. He had subways trains blasting through the theatre and the big chandelier in the middle was swaying back and forth and chunks of the old theatre ceiling were falling in. That was my first ever rock show.

Ted Nugent?  I can see some arguements about technical superiority but as a guitarist Nugent is a B- at best.  Not a comment on his music or musical tastes, but his guitar playing is nothing special.

Jimi, on the other handtruly transcended the instrument. And that is the ture hallmark of a master.

Ted Nugent is a chickenhawk that was so cowardly he went to his draft appointment in pants that he had purposely soiled to avoid having to serve. I have tried to imagine how one could be that hypocritical, but just can't picture it.

He has some minor talent with the guitar, but many, many people, live and dead, are better, including Jimi. Let him stick to shooting things that can't shoot back.

I heard that this cover with the naked girls on it was NOT Jimi's idea nd he hated it. It was the record company's gimic and he had it changed for the US release. May be wrong. If someone has heard otherwise, chime in.

Guess this was a futuristic/apocryphal vision...wonder why 1983..maybe just because 1984 did not rhyme with be etc. doubt it. I looked up the lyric, dont recall quite what piece of planetary madness was happening when this was penned but the feeling is well captured. I see the use of "lyrics" in the plural to refer to one lyric, which is the words of a song, is too well established to be stemmed. Our language is ever rendered more inexact by the ignorant.
