Should have known
I would conceal your way

She knows, she knows, she knows

This will never, ever get old! Brings me back to school every time.. Not sure if that's always a good thing, but still it's a big 9 from me
A top contender for one of the best debut albums of any rock band
Like most TSP songs, you can hear and feel this one coming a mile away... The reward of the rush and thrill of them is way up there...

I liked Billy Corgan better when he worked at a used record store by my house in the Jefferson Park neighborhood in Chicago.  It was called Record Hunt in case anyone wants to verify that.

just tedious noise. PSD

People might be a little weary of seeing you post "thud and drone" on every Pumpkins song, over and over. We get it idiot, you don't like them.

Now find another band to shitpost all day, hmm?

I've known what it is since way before Google. That's why I italicized the first word in your case.

You still kind of trashed them anyway by merely reporting this. But it's a step in the good direction.
Damn I really, really, really dislike this band...esp. BC's vocals

LowPhreak (correctly) didn't say you were living up to the whole thing.
The title is still misspelled in the RP database after all those years, but I kind of like the idea of calling something rhinocerous, in the sense of “having rhinoceros-like qualities”. {#Cheesygrin}

Rhino is one of my favorites :). My ballet/modern dance teacher growing up choreographed our entire recital to SP's Melancholy and the Infinite Sadness album. Dancers from ages 6 - 30 were rocking out on stage in front of our parents to SP - it was awesome!!!

Whah. Whah. Whah.

Ughhhhh.

Whah. Whah. Whah.

Ughhhhhh.

Hey I just became a song writer for the this band!

 Now where's my #$%^ check?

Love Smashing Pumpkins {#Smile}
Hey folks what kind of cheese should go with all the "whining" from this song, this album, and this band?

But give them credit for miking a genre that sold alot of albums that all sounded the same.
These guys rock. Period

That describes RadioHead. Who seem to worshiped in large numbers here at RP. By you perhaps?

Given all of that guy's countless, repetitive posts about "thud & drone" and "pain, angst, anger, despair", I don't think he likes much of anything recorded after 1974, including any tunes by your good pals from Radiohead.
 idiot_wind wrote:

Use your mute button, idiot.

So much hatred? I like it, in fact I like the whole album and very much enjoy listening to it!

To me, this earlier Pumpkin stuff represents some of the last creative, agressive, all up in your face rock and/or roll guitar work.

I am a listening fan of old Eddie Van Halen and Dave Navarro guitar playing.

Any comments on bands exhibiting current guitar work like that stuff?

Thud and drone crap! Stop it, please!
Never want to hear these guys again.

My god...dreadful "thud and drone" genre that got way too much play.

Let me see: every song must have Pain, Angst, Anger, or Despair expressed in boring, repetitive, truncated, muted singing and playing. This is called the PAAD formula and this band followed it.

This type of sound has had its ons & offs, but it certainly fills the bill well on a frickin' cold and gray day like today, nested in a KILLER SET

That's profound...  well  said...

two atheistic French dudes made existentialism famous and people often think existentialism and atheism are synonymous, but that's not true...  existentialists can believe whatever they wish as individuals...

existentialists believe that objectively, everything is absurd, so subjectively, people are free to believe whatever they wish—  life is a custom fit...

as John Lennon sang, "Whatever gets you through the night, it's all right..."

Everybody in my church loves this song...

I seems absurd but I bought a couple of Smashing Pumpkins albums when the were released, but they did nothing for me and I shelved them.  A year ago I heard Luna from Siamese Dream on Radio Paradise and fell in love, dug out my old CD’s and started buying the back catalog. I’m now asking myself how on earth I missed them first time round?

I was just coming here to ask about this. Rhinocerous came off of Gish right? That's the only album of theirs I find listenable. It sounds totally different from — and just absolutely superior to — the rest of their stuff to me. Is it just my imagination?

Totally agree.  Gish is a fantastic album and none of their others could touch it, IMO.

There are better Songs from Good old Smashing Pumpkins...but it depends on the ear of the listener...don´t you think?
Sounds like Nirvana on qualudes.  Wake me up when it's over.
There are two songs on this rotten apples album that have incredible feedback solos cutoff.  This song and Drown.  They are both in somewhat regular rotation here, and every time I hear one or the other I miss those solos.

Better than nothing though!
You know, for as long as it lasted, grunge wasn't half bad.
Pumpkins song that Silversun Pickups sound the most like. :-)
Incredible tune from an even better debut album!
Nice guitar line.

Thank goodness a Rhinocerous didn't wonder into the recording studio and trample the master tape of this recording......{#Whistle}

love when I recognize the opening to a great song - an album track I love - but can't quite place it....and then.... great tune

Billy has a lot of musical range.

trying to remember the full show when I saw them in Dec 1993 at Chicago's Aragon Ballroom ... believe Soul Asylum and the Jayhawks w/ Victoria Williams opened ... amazing, amazing, amazing.
Does she know?
One of the best live shows I've seen.  It was 2 days before Jonathan Melvoin's OD.  I was floored by the news.

Love how I can hear James Iha's guitar at the beginning and know it's the Pumpkins right away.

My favourite band, they can do no wrong!
one of the great original rock and roll bands

WYLD STALLYON!
All of the hate for SP makes me laugh. Trent Reznor does the same kind of thing (and then some) and it's ok. Many rock legends are known for being kind of crazy and obsessive, and that's fine. Billy gets all kinds of criticism though, yet the band's discography is truly one of a kind.

Some people like to say everything went downhill after Gish and Siamese Dream, but I disagree. I think the fact that they branched out and tired different things is a testament to Billy's desire to take risks instead of doing what would make more money. Remember, this is a band that at one point got sued by its label for basically not pumping out one double album after another. You may want to think again before you say he "sold out" after the first couple albums. "Selling out" is irrelevant. All bands do. Yes, even the countless "indie" bands that you nitpickers fall in love with who sell their songs to automobile makers to use in their bland commercials.

I was going to say that these guys are nowhere cool enough to play twice in one day. But by playing a song from Gish it might as well be 2 different bands. Cheers.
Great Smashing Pumpkin song. A little slow for Friday afternoon but hey, its all good.

My fave 'Punkins tune.
Pure bliss. I remember first time hearing this, one of those sounds unlike any other. This is from first album before Billy seemed to fall off narcissistic edge.

I agree. However, I do like much of SP's work. I still do not own any of their albums.
Beaker wrote:
Such noise. I'd probably appreciate this track more if I was about ten blocks away.
Billy likes noise. If you like noise, particularly of the loud variety, you will probably like most of the loud moments of Smashing Pumpkins (as opposed to the quiet, opiate-induced D'Arcy moments.) There is a quota of BC I can take - past a certain point the screeching and his seemingly limitless ego-mongering get to me. But at times I too like noise, and don't necessarily have to be blocks away (as long as I don't live in the neighborhood I'm good!) - Riff

This guy is so overrated it's sickening; bad music and bad voice.
Jimmy Chamberlin is a genius on drums His drumming and Corgan's lyrics are what make the Pumpkins work.
