I live on a chain and you share the same last name, as a joke,
I sent a bottle of whiskey, as you choked,
I knew it made you feel dirty,
And I was waiting over here for life to begin,
I was looking for the new thing,
And you were THE sunshine heading my front-line,
I was alone, you were just around the corner from me.
Time alone is good, I spend my days in the city,
Dirty neighborhood, you know you'll never convince me,
So I sold the town away, I couldn't wait to forget you,
I was killed in half a day, I hadn't time to regret you,
And I was waiting over here for life to begin,
I was looking for the new thing
And you were the sunshine heading my front line,
I was alone you were just around the corner from me.
I, I'm still on the chain, and you, had the same last name,
As a joke I sent a bottle of whiskey
As you choked you said it made you feel dirty...
Waiting over here, for life to begin,
Still looking for the new thing,
And you were the sunshine heading my front-line,
I was alone, you were just around the corner from me

It's sort of like, you're at the Newport Jazz Festival, and you see that Pete Yorn, whom you've never heard of but figure you'll give it a shot, since it's taking place on one of the larger docks, next to a huge yacht ... and as you approach, thinking of what drink you're going to order, you hear this song, and you ... keep moving. Oh so very average.

Indeed, it was the first CD I went out and bought after hearing it here in either 2001 or 2002. Gave it to the woman I was dating at the time and she refused to give it back she liked it so much. No worries, it's still a favorite of mine and she's still a friend.
WTF! Two shitastic songs in a row? What are you doing to us???
Should be Pete YAWN not Yorn....

If I am not mistaken; this is one of the original songs from RPs first rotation back in 2001. One of the first songs that I heard on RP; still good; though I prefer the studio version.

Middle lane of the M6, Ady
Sometimes a live recording brings something extra to a song, and sometimes it takes something away. For me, this is the latter.

99X was once the best radio station in Atlanta (and the U.S.), but those days are long gone.  Too bad.
Great to hear a live version of this, since this song was my first introduction to Pete.
Agreed!!!! themotion wrote:
The beginning is far too close to "Heroes".

Wow! I was at this live X and loved the show. I can't believe this made it onto RP! This is why we should never lose this great medium.
Live X's were (still are? don't know, I moved) great! That's where I found out that Jill Sobule has many, many more songs besides "I Kissed A Girl" and is actually an amazing songwriter.
nice...this is waking me up...better than the crap coffee i'm drinking right now...

Great song...in fact, it's me&myhoney's song!! I actually heard a Peter Hook-style bass line in it--call me crazy, well, besides for the fact that it's OUR song.
I hear the Peter Hook sound for sure. Not a bad song, but not great either..

Nice to hear some "Live X" stuff here.

The chorus is "Judy In Disguise", I swear!

Great song. just represents exactly how i feel at this moment in time. sad but hoping to get upbeat
I've seen Pete Yorn twice over the past few months...once at the last minute when I found out he was in town here in Charlotte NC. That was OK. The second time was at Bonnaroo this past June. He was GREAT, more mature, his stuff sounded great and he covered a couple of surprises such as The Smiths. Didn't realize he had a dark side.
Just one more great thing to come out of Syracuse University (other than me)!
Pretty peppy and good beat ... especially Judy in Disguise and the Banana Splits Theme.
I know I'm showing my age, but I've been playing a version of this song from "Live in New Jersey" in my car lately, and have a weird question/comment. Does anyone else hear the melody from the old "Banana Splits" TV show on the riff right before he comes back in from the instrumental middle bridge?

This was pleasant. Not bad. Not bad.
He spells out R-E-A-C-T just like Stipe does on that R.E.M. song from Reckoning (Harborcoat, I think). Why?
I think I hear a \"Judy in Disguise\" riff embedded in this tune.
Parts of this song sound like a folked-out rendition of \"Heroes\" ... the rest of it just sounds like filler.
Got to think that \"R-E-A-C-T\" part he added to this version is a nod to R.E.M.
Not bad.
I much prefer this version to the studio version. I\'m not tired of this song, but perhaps that\'s because I only hear it here on RP ;)
Cool new version of this song.
