This is the definition of my life
Lying in bed in the sunrise
Choking on a vitamin tablet the doctor gave
In the hope of saving me
In the hope of saving me

Mott's in the corner of the room
Junkyard fool with eyes of gloom
I asked him time again,

Take me in and dry the rain
Take me in and dry the rain
Take me in and dry the rain,
Take me in and dry the rain,
The rain, the rain, the rain, the rain, my rain now

Dusty brown boots in the corner by the ironing board
Spray-on dust is the greatest thing
Sure is the greatest thing
Since the last, since the last

Mott's in the corner of the room
Junkyard fool with eyes of gloom
I asked him time again

Take me in and dry the rain
Take me in and dry the rain
Take me in and dry the rain
Take me in and dry the rain
The rain, the rain, the rain, the rain, my rain now

I asked him time again,
Take me in and dry the rain
Take me in and dry the rain
Take me in and dry the rain
Take me in and dry the rain
The rain, the rain, the rain, the rain, my rain now

If there's something inside that you wanna say
Say it out loud it'll be okay
I will be alright, I will be alright
I will be your light, I will be your light

If there's something inside that you wanna say
You can say it out loud it will be okay
I will be alright, I will be your light
I will be your light, I will be your light

I need love
I need love

First time for me. What a gem.

I really like this track and marked it a 7 a while ago but really didn't know anything about the band and was mostly confused by the cover art.  It turns out the band were from Scotland.  That explains the border collie.
Didn't they later change their name to "The VHS Band"?
yes! aaaaaaaaaaalways makes me get up & dance!
I used to test my tube preamps with this song. Amazing how many subtle insights there are, in addition to the killer vibe overall!

The TV show with Zoë Kravitz is also well-worth checking out.
Only 1 season, but it carries the "ethos" of the movie very successfully IMO.

What a great freaking movie that was! I saw the movie and immediately looked up the band and bought the album. It is awesome to discover the work a whole new band to get into. Doesn’t happen often.
Hints of Scissor Sisters' Take Your Mama too
This song provides me with a very pleasant endorphin release. And looking over at my cat apparently it does the same for him. Purr…..
This is way out of the scale, in all it's simplicity

Interesting. I almost watched that film. I now will. Researching, it reminded me of Nick Cave's 'The Proposition'.

Hello, 411? I'd like you to put me in touch with an organ player?
Someone kidnapped Beck!

An amazing sound. RP introduced me many years ago. Still love their sound.

Echoes of Ween's The Rift.

Though, considering the timing, it would be more accurate to say Ween's The Rift has echoes of this.
I dig the song I hear kinks beck

The Three E.P.'s is a compilation album of the first three releases by Scottish musical group The Beta Band, comprising the EPsChampion Versions, The Patty Patty Sound and Los Amigos del Beta Bandidos. The album was released on 28 September 1998 in the United Kingdom by Regal and on 26 January 1999 in the United States by Astralwerks. Its cover art includes the main image from each of the EPs.

Gotta say, kingart, I like your explanation better!

Long Live RP...and EPs too, eh?!!
Chorus really has an early Kinks...Ray Davies feel to it. I like it!!!

Amazing what you can accomplish with your basic C, D, G chords...

This song or maybe I should say the "sound" and "feel" of this song reminds me a lot of "Bright Fire" from 1973 by Fleetwood Mac

Dancing spirits tbeautiful and sleek
flying fast and almost
touching  pines and wind.
It's the bass that does it.
Defo a bit floyd'ish - but then, probably more fair to say it's got a late 60's vibe - there were plenty of bands with similar sounds back then.
What sets it apart is ... the bass ... yep.
I see several other people mention them opening up for Radiohead in 2001. I saw that show/tour in Chicago's Grant Park, the Buckingham Fountain in view, far behind the stage etc... Defiantly one of my all time favorite shows...Gonna hafta find my ticket stub and do a journal entry for that one soon 4sure!

I like the previous comment saying they heard 'early Pink Floyd'... I'd agree with that, thus the whole esoterically Radiohead tie-in etc... Good stuff...{#Music}

Progressive Folk Hop.

I'm chair-dancing again. About as 10 as it gets!
All you haters.....do two quick shots of Jack Daniels, (or other substance of choice) put on headphones, and you will love this song.

Why not try it, eh?

I would agree with that - and, although I don't normally comment on others taste in music, etc, I'd also say that the people who don't get this song are missing out, big time.  The Three EPs CD, which this track if from, is a great listen overall, but this particular track is a solid 10.  What is more amazing is that, personally, I don't find it rips anything off - even if other people can hear other artists/songs, I think it is really their unique sound.
Scene from High Fidelity, Rob whispers into Dick's ear in the record store
I wonder if they later became the VHS Band? {#Stupid}
Anyone else think this sounds like early Pink Floyd?  Not bad.
Soooooo underrated....

I think in the movie the line goes "watch, I am going to sell 5 copies of the Beta Band" as he spins their album.  I am wondering if that was the only 5 copies ever sold by this band...Well, I bought this CD.  They opened for Radiohead on the Kid A tour.  A forgettable band.  I like this tune though.
Thank you for playing Beta Band! I also recommend Aliens
One of my favourite songs ever. The way it builds towards the end is superb, reminds me of good times when first released.

I have an album by Beta Band that I consider a real work of art. I LOVE the easy swagger, general lazy, yet hip feel & sort of techno-tweaked feel of this band. I think it's a perfect hybrid type of sound. The voice is reminiscent of Beck, yes, but I don't confuse them because of a different tonal quality. I really like this band a lot.
Great movie, good book, the soundtrack works well in the film but I find I don't have much interest in listening to it on it's own.  This tune is decent, though.

The guitar at the end is very similar to Keith Richards.

Nice combination to make an Okay sound/song.

+1 for association with High Fidelity. 10

Love the song, especially the lyrics.  The last 3 minutes are really incredible in the music and the lyrics. The lyrics to this song really hit me hard when I was going through a divorce:

If there's something inside that you wanna say
Say it out loud it'll be okay
I will be your light
I will be your light
I will be your light
I will be your light
I Need Love
I Need Love
Sounds like a cross between Beck and mid career Pink Floyd, I like. Wonder if they will change their name to VHS Band?

Thought this was about someone called Lorraine until I turned the sound up.  Need something a bit less dirge-like please - it is 6.30pm on Friday here in UK and I need to be LIVENED UP!!!!!
This has probably already been said but,

"My desert island, all-time, top-five most memorable breakups, in chronological order, are as follows: Alison Ashmore; Penny Hardwick; Jackie Alden; Charlie Nicholson; and Sarah Kendrew. Those were the ones that really hurt. Can you see your name on that list, Laura? Maybe you'd sneak into the top ten. But there's just no room for you in the top five, sorry. Those places are reserved for the kind of humiliation and heartbreak you're just not capable of delivering."

great tune, and a great movie
