Oh Elise it doesn't matter what you say
I just can't stay here every yesterday
Like keep on acting out the same
The way we act out
Every way to smile
Forget

And make-believe we never needed
Any more than this
Any more than this

Oh Elise it doesn't matter what you do
I know I'll never really get inside of you
To make your eyes catch fire
The way they should
The way the blue could pull me in
If they only would
If they only would
At least I'd lose this sense of sensing something else
That hides away
From me and you
There're worlds to part
With aching looks and breaking hearts
And all the prayers your hands can make
Oh I just take as much as you can throw
And then throw it all away
Oh I throw it all away
Like throwing faces at the sky
Like throwing arms round
Yesterday

I stood and stared
Wide-eyed in front of you
And the face I saw looked back
The way I wanted to
But I just can't hold my tears away
The way you do

Elise believe I never wanted this
I thought this time I'd keep all of my promises
I thought you were the girl I always dreamed about
But I let the dream go
And the promises broke
And the make-believe ran out

So Elise
It doesn't matter what you say
I just can't stay here every yesterday
Like keep on acting out the same
The way we act out
Every way to smile
Forget
And make-believe we never needed
Any more than this
Any more than this

And every time I try to pick it up
Like falling sand
As fast as I pick it up
It runs away through my clutching hands
But there's nothing else I can really do
There's nothing else I can really do
There's nothing else
I can really do
At all

Elise must have been quite a woman.
Last play January 10, 2016, maybe RP can cut a dozen or so of the REM songs and get the real thing on more often,....just thinking out loud{#Ask}
What a sad, beautiful song.
♫ Pretty little thing with a credit card...♫

beautiful song...  still love it...

Radio Paradise works like that a lot, in my experience. I also enjoy when it makes a completely unexpected yet perfectly appropriate transition.
When listening to the previous song (The Shins - Australia) I was thinking "The Cure, The Cure, The Cure ..." and here it is.
Okay, I know a LOT of people like the English beat stuff, but it sounds like whining to me.
Changing the channel....{#Sad}
RUNS to computer to turn it up, notch a 8 —-> 9!  Please play more of The Cure, Bill!
The only thing even better than this is the Blue Mix of the same song (one of the B-sides of the single release).
One of my favourite songs by one of my favourite bands. Have just upped it from 9 to 10.
I love this song.
Simply beautiful.
Sometimes feeling bad helps to get to feeing good. The Cure and this song did that for me years ago. Some of it never goes away though. What a song...

Yes, thank you Bill  {#Cheers}
Ah, thanks Bill.
This is the sort of tune I put in my playlist called, "prodding what is already sore"- in a good way, that is...

They have a lot of these jingle-jangle lovelorn songs...this is not the best of the bunch.
Ahhhh....sigh...thanks so much, Bill...I love this song! I miss hearing The Cure...xoxo

Unlike all that Pink Floyd that gets played on here. (Which I also like, by the way.)
Sounds too much like The Cure.
"High" - also from Wish - should get airplay on RP. Another nice one.
*sigh* So sad, so beautiful. Finely crafted lyrics. When this album came out I used to listen to this song over & over on my yellow Sony walkman, and cry.{#Cry}
Actually, there's plenty else I can really do at all...
We used to play this in our all-accoustic cellar room band. I think the songs benefits from not overproducing it. Very simple, very beautiful. 9

i love this one!
I do miss the insightful eloquence of sting ray.......where for art thou......
I was surprised by how good the Cure was on their reunion tour this year.  The Charlotte show was pretty damn good.
Yeah...go on playing! Always and always!
One of the most beautiful break up songs ever....
I've always really liked the Cure. This one holds up for me/
The cure makes me cry.....but in a good way.
I was never much of a Cure fan ... but got a chance to catch them live a few years ago ... and found Robert Smith to be one of the most fascinating stage presences I've seen since Bowie! Of course it doesn't hurt to be surrounded by ten thousand die-hard Cure fans. But still ... there's something genuine and original in this band. I was converted.

Got a few folks on your side here. This is one of the worst voices I've ever heard.
Maybe one day I'll understand what this band is about. Right now I think it's one of these (god forbid) "you had to be there"-bands. Well, I wasn't and most of what i hear from them is, well, I don't get it.

What baffles me is that you gave an Interpol a song a "10" and Interpol's biggest influences is the Cure
I don't think of the cure when I listen to Interpol. I have most of the cure's albums, all of Interpol's and although the sound may be perceived as dark and brooding, Interpol is a bit more spot on. Unless you're talking about really, really early cure, there is no comparison. The cure are basically too poppy and Interpol are more underground and therefore more expressive for expressions sake.
Just wonderful... one of the most sensitive songs ever written by RS...
quite nice IMO
It is just rehashed. ed wrote:
Is this a remake of the Cure song that was played about an hour and a half ago or just them stuck in that same vein again?

I have probably said it before, but, what a beautiful love song. Very simple...
This is a beautiful sad song. How can the Cure's popularity baffle? This song has great lyrics. Robert Smith has the uncanny ability to sing about whatever he's feeling, and it always sounds good. It's easy for him it seems. I'd like all the critics to try it. But you can't can you? Ehh whatever, to each his own.

....imagine this guy could sing! then they were at least mediocre! STINGRAY!

Same here, but some of my favorites make my loved ones beg me to use headphones, so...
Ah yes - soaring.

Everytime I hear this guys voice I think he sounds like he can't be bothered to sing! Like 'oh great now ive got to sing again, la la f*cking ding dong, wooo'

Ditto, there has been ALOT of Cure played on RP in the last week or so ???
These two listeners and jah_blessed have good points. The "melody" is just a monotonous sort of up and down and the singing voices have a wobbly, palatonasal whininess . . . This group has done better.

The popularity of this particular track baffles me. (7.5 avg rating) One of the Cure's worst tracks. Trite, melodramatic dreck. Still like most of their other older stuff, though.

Really great disc as is Mixed Up...
original version is better, but this is still great - 8

No, more likely it was "Let's See if We Can Cause a Mass Barf Attack." etc.

You know, I used to HATE the cure, but my wife loved them and would force me to listen to them. I don't know if I just gave up trying to fight them, but before I knew it, I was telling people I really liked them and making them listen to songs that I liked! Am I weak?
I used to adore the Cure, even going so far as to exclaim with vigor that Robert Smith, wearing his rash red lipstick and 'teased' hair that looked like he did up whilst 4 wheeling, was 'oh my gawd gorgeous'. I think I have 'grown weak' or something (like get older); I seriously cannot stand them anymore. However, as a musician, I have always been and still am an admirer of their musical abilities. They know how to write and play their stuff. Simon and Robert are legends.
Me too, Mari. I love this song, filled with much emotion. Le sigh.
The working title for this song must have been "Just Like Just Like Heaven". No where near their best, IMHO.
Was this an upload? Sounds a little rough... Besides that, this song always makes me teary-eyed with memories of long ago.
not enough Cure on RP Bill. have good, get give baby arm
The album is pretty bad - and this is the worst track on it. I'd rather hear "From the Edge of the Deep Green Sea". Must upload that someday.
This album's already 13 years old?!? Ack! Where'd the time go? One of the 'happier' Cure albums...unfortunately, it was also the start of the decline. This is still likeable, though.
I encourage someone to listen to this, Carbon Leaf's Troubles Roll By and Robbie Williams' Millennium. I notice some similarites.
I will qualify this comment first by stating that I am a Cure fan, big time. This song, which is not the best on the album (but still a good one), is from the last "great" Cure album. I've yet to get the soul-satisfying feeling I got from this and previous releases from anything since. Even Bloodflowers.
Mmm...makes me happy to hear it! O:)

Ouch. You must have seen the recent exchange between Morissey and RS, something about SMITH and Wesson... :whip: I like-y . One of my favs. An 8.
Classic Cure. Sweeping reverb with the characteristic chord progressions. The descending lush guitar lines. But not sure its a 7:45 am song.

Maybe because The Cure was one of the crappy bands?
No way in heck. Clearly one of the few bands of the 80s actually producing songs that will continue to stand the test of time. This isn't something corporate America produced or necessarily even embraced (except it produced $$$).
Righteous!
The only cure for this band is a quick, violent death.
This is a great song. It reminds me of sad times. Sad song.
Too much Cure on RP. :x

I only give 8 and up to songs that I might buy a cd from. I don't believe I would buy a cd from the Cure, but this song on its own......
One of the greatest Love songs I have ever heard.

Great music for a Sunday morning!

Why do people feel the need to apologize for digging eighties bands like The Cure? The 80's were no different from any other decade...there was some great stuff that will stand the test of time and a lot of crap.
Really? From what I saw, there were only a couple of good bands in the 80's and a whole ton of real crap.....
Wonderful!
One of my favorites. Brings back many memories...
is it just me, or did the audio sound all messed up on this one? like it was poorly encoded or something. very tinny and scratchy.

A nice but over-produced tune, like most of The Cure\'s efforts after they hit gold in America. Why not play some of their early 80s stuff from the Seventeen Seconds/Faith/Pornography trilogy?
