Well, I sincerely miss those heavy metal bands
I used to go see on the landing in the summer
She fell in love with the drummer
She fell in love with the drummer
She fell in love

Shiny, shiny pants and bleached blonde hair
A double kick drum by the river in the summer
She fell in love with the drummer
Another, then another
She fell in love

I miss the innocence I've known
Playing KISS covers, beautiful and stoned

Unlock my body and move myself to dance
Into warm liquid, flowing, blowing glass
Classical music blasting masks the ringing in my ears

Oh, I sincerely miss those heavy metal bands
I used to go to see on the landing in the summer
She fell in love with the drummer
She fell in love with another
She fell in love

I miss the innocence I've known
Playing KISS covers, beautiful and stoned

I'm still here!  And I'm still consuming Wilco albums, just not with as much enthusiasm as I was pre-2004.

If I were to cherry pick songs from the last fifteen or so years, here's my favorites in chron. order (none of which I think are as captivating as Heavy Metal Drummer):

Handshake Drugs
I'm a Wheel
Theologians
The Late Greats
Impossible Germany
What Light
Wilco (The Song)
You Never Know
I Might
Born Alone
Random Name Generator

If you passed away in 2004.
Just wrapped an amazing 5-night run at The Fillmore last Sunday.

Took me this whole week to recover, but definitely worth the investment.

Having my wife and kids at the last show was a highlight {#Biggrin}
Their new album is pretty great.

This song reflects their humble beginnings in Belleville, IL (across the river from STL) when the band was Unclie Tupelo.

Catch the reference to bands playing "on the landing"...as in Mississippi Landing on the river in STL.
Great intro. leading to a great song!  Wilco's last GREAT single.
It simply does not get any better than this.  Out of context, it masquerades as a not-so-AMAZING song - but if you know YHF - you know that it actually a VERY AMAZING song...   {#Angel}

Hey, please tell. What happened to TAFKAR (The Artist Formerly Known As Romeotuma)?

This sounds like pavement song? Really?
Mr. Tweedy, I'm still waiting for a Kiss cover to make it on one of your albums.  How 'bout a beautiful and stoned version of this on your next LP:

Apparently out of rotation for awhile. Most comments seem to be in 2004 & 2003?

Great song - does not deserve to be neglected in RP playlists
Anyone here seen Wilco in concert? I just remember the crazy videos they had playing in the background and I think this song had one of the craziest, with the flower pedals opening and closing, ok anyways enough with that rant, on with the WILCO!
ditto what snortch says... time for some friggin Pavement already. (though i'll never complain about getting to hear some wilco, either)
Bill, wow more wilco...first new stuff "Muzzle of bees", now "Heavy metal drummer"....I am definitely digging Thursday on RP.

That is a great documentary. There is a part when Tweedy is on the tour bus asking his son what his favorite song is. The kid starts playing the drum beat to 'Heavy Metal Drummer' on his lap and they fade into the song. Good stuff.
I love that part.
O crap. Looks like I am going to have to buy this disc. Beginning to like this Wilco.
Bill, It would be an awesome segue to go from this one to Jonathan Richman's "Rock'n'Roll Drummer Straight From the Hospy-Tel". (imagine sound of dog-like panting)
That stuff with Billy Bragg that Bill rolled yesterday was awesome. Not sure how I missed that disc before now, but I will be buying that on my next trip to the record store.

Yeah! That was one of my favorite parts. I also loved how long they labored over how the song before this one on the CD was going to fade in...a great, great band.
This was my favorite Pavement song of 2002... and I do think I mean that as a compliment.

Kinks circa 1970 fo' sure!
Sounds a lot like a more heavily produced Jonathan Richman too. 7/10 This would be hilarious to segue into "Head Banger Boy" boy Pansy Division, but not likely to happen. . .

Now on DVD, I Am Trying to Break Your Heart, a documentary filmed during the making of YHF. You've probably heard the story but it's still amusing to watch. Be sure to turn on the subtitles 'cause there's a lot of mumbling and off-camera dialogue.

Yes, some Kinks, some Pavement... good though...
"I miss the innocence I've known, playing Kiss covers, beautiful and stoned" Poetry. I love this band.

I used to kinda like Wilco. After hearing their YHF stuff on RP, I bought the album and it is my favorite album of last year, and I have a greater understanding of just how big of geniuses Jeff Tweedy and co are. The video cut of him and his kid on the bus for this song is really cute (OK, so it reminds me of my son).
ooooooooooooooooo heeeeyyyyyyyyyyyyy
more wilco, more tupelo, more son volt!
This is a fun song! Wilco goes Spinal Tap. Yankee Hotel Foxtrot was one of the best releases in 2002.
Kinks have nothing on this.

To me it sounds just like Pavement.

Exactly what I was thinking. Makes me want to hear the real thing. :D

What a great song... reminds me of the time I paid to see Def Leppard when I was in junior high...
Nice cut from YHF :) More Please :) :D :D :)
