Sigur Rós kicks off its North American tour in Detroit with a show with the Detroit Symphony Orchestra on Sept. 19, 2024. I will see you THERE!
These guys always get all my brain cells firing in beautiful unison. And Jónsi has the voice of an angel!

love the live outdoor performance on youtube.
It's grand and it's sloppy and it will sweep you away if you let it.

Not sure you could describe The Beatles as, 'current,' though.
They're like Phillip Glass but with more reverb.

They're like getting a root canal, but in slow motion.

I suppose it should not be surprising that Icelandic is so different from Norwegian.

Totally agree with the comment BTW!

I truly love this.

Pink Floyd music is now 50 years old...still being played.  I think they will last another 50 years.

brings Bobycaygeon by Tragically Hip to mind
Anyone remember that Far Side cartoon where the Devil is listening to New Age music and some dude sent to hell is trapped in an eternal sound booth, forced to listen to it, his face pressed against the glass? For me, this music would be a close second.
No, it wasn't 'Five Years' - my 'spot the intro' skills failed me, having been lead astray deliberately, methinks, by Bill putting this after Space Oddity
Does not do it for me.
unique and joyful, imo.

this starts off sounding a bit like a synth version of Pictures of You by the Cure
What a grat Group.. Refreshing with new ideas
Merlin Olsen and Elizabeth Olsen
Interesting.
This one sounds better and better with subsequent listens.
This band is very no good
Pearly Dew Drops Drop?
And they called Michael Jackson a freak...

SR is supper annoying, to say the least.

I never hear this band anywhere but when I play them on my home system.  This is a nice surprise, my friend may be correct about a place for new music without working so hard to find it... will see, bu so far good.

Google pronounces it as "mink-a kay paulie".

Must fit this into conversation with my Italian relatives... {#Cheesygrin}
I'm no sigur ros fan, but please don't ever say they are similar to that dreadful trendo-hipster band called arcade fire.
I was going to post a funny picture of the Olsen twins but I see that's already been addressed.  :)
this is beautiful!

Truly, you have squeezed a lot of expression and imagery into the elucidation of a mere 5 or 6 foreign syllables. We here at RP are grateful, and perhaps envious.

Saw them live and, IIRC, this was the soundtrack to a video they showed of some young boys playing in a soccer match. Slow mo, artful. Finally, at the end - a GOAL! They go crazy!
The parents jump and cheer! The players jump and cheer! Boys hug and roll on the ground! And the one who scored is hugged by his teammate and they roll and hug and then...kiss. Make out on the field.
Cut to the crowd, and the parents, and the looks on their faces.
Everyone loves Susan Olsen.....

Very very good. I feel like I'm in Heaven. Thank you Ferdinand from Austria
I don't ever comment on the artist's looks, but there's something in Sigur Ros' singer that gives me shivers... He looks creepy. Not because of his eyes, but his vile smile and his squeaky voice. :-/

This is the Scandanavian (Icelandic?) version of Arcade Fire. I'd prefer an off-key, off-beat and off-shore squad of different tongue musicians to the relentless pedestrian thump thumpin of AF's hipster static.

I don't really see any similarity between the two. In fact, I'm not sure Sigur Ros is quite like any other band. They're unique in their strangeness. I quite enjoy them (once in a while). As for Arcade Fire, I think we're on the same page.  ; )

Music from a different world....  Thank you so much for your great Radio Station. Greetings from Austria. Ferdinand

I'm envious. I bought their online video Heima and have watched it many times. Gorgeous scenery and music.

Starting at a 7. A nice, transporting, evocative tune. I have not been too inspired by the little else I've heard of Sigur so there is hope for me.

9 -> 10. So funny to read the comments of haters scared of something fresh and original... Yes, now you can compare and learn that Wilco, Florence, National, Alt-J and all that favourite staff of yours are not so phenomenal  {#Nyah}

Wow. There's quite a lot of Sigur Rós hate here.

We know: there are a million true SICKOS out there. The majority of them must be Sigur Ros fans. A really gave them a chance. I listened to each song of 4 albums. I did not find a SINGLE (!!!!!!!!!!!!!) song that did not pain the hell out of me.
Ridiculous this terrible supersweet violin-coating over each and any song. No rythm, hardly any melody and this sickening "language".
The whole SR-thing is a hoax. It can't be nothing else. How old might their fans (fans?? really??) be? Twelve? Just eight? Liking lullabies? Or are they even adults? Grannies maybe? I just can't figure it out.
I read about them, downloaded their albums and was terrified. I deleted all! Then I read again, wondered if I had been ignorant and loaded the same albums again and gave them a real chance another time. Same thing: I could hardly stand a single song. This pussy-attitude. This whining. This childish melancholy. Please point out a single, just ONE (!) single song of quality and I take anything said back and download that song a third time for good!

Really angry,
Hoppipolla - tttzzzzzzzz....!!!!!

Dunno how I'd react to this at another time, but at the moment it's perfectly suited to my mood.
Rated this a 5 the first time I heard it, but suddenly in this evening's set it's sounding more like a 7 or 8. Context is SO important... :^)

Ah, that is such an amazing piece of music!
All of the Sigur Ros I've heard on RP has been pure aural Mogadon. In my blow-smoking days I'd have loved this stuff, laid out on a bean bag with a trumpet spliff in hand and a can of Red Stripe in reach, as the music's so laid-back it's comatose. When straight, though,  it's the very definition of Ho-Hum. If only I could retire and start smoking again... :*)

You know, I thought the exact same thing. Olsen2 ? I suspect they have no idea who the Olsen Twins are (at least, I'd hope they've not contaminated Iceland) but you never know.  Nothing personal against the poor kids, I just think they represent the culture of empty fame more than anyone else in the country now... even Paris.

Mary-Kate and Ashley?

Ahhh.... as soon as I heard the first strains of reverb-soaked vocals, I ran (virtually) to the playlist to confirm, and a fervent "YESSSS....." slid from my lips. Loving this band even more than I already did since seeing "Heima" this past weekend...   {#Meditate}   {#Music}

A little Polyphonic Spree -esque. Not like that's a bad thing...
Very good to hear something so "not so" common on RP
Edit: Second listen...loving this now.

Um...is this song about Mary-Kate and Ashley...? (Get it?! The Olsen twins?! Aaaahhh, nevermind.)
