Nope, sorry, I can't agree with that. Music has always been inextricably linked with politics, and in pre-secular times with religion - for instance, the music of Handel, Mozart, Gesualdo, and many other composers was explicitly Christian, because that was the dominant ideology of their time. Much folk music is protest music and thus directly or indirectly political. Even 'non-political' music, such as Spandau Ballet (one of the many Yuppie Rock bands of the 80s) is political, because by being apolitical it implicitly endorses the dominant politics of its time.

I'm not saying that all music should be agitprop, like the Clash or Michael Franti, or have any explicit political content, and I'm not making any comment on the Pixies politics, which I know nothing of. All I'm saying is that music can and never should be "pure" - it's a human endeavour which will be highly influenced by the socio-economic conditions of the time it was produced.

Very well stated!

Music should not be in relation with religion and politics, it's a pure thing, let it stay so.

If I followed your advice, and did the required research as you suggest is necessary to appreciate this band and in doing so, found out the Pixies had discovered a cure for cancer, it still would not make this song sound any better.

This is true, but I think he was responding to someone who did not think the Pixies were important or influential, not whether you or anyone else likes their music. You can not like their music all you want, but to say that they are musically not relevant is just plain ol' not true and Mr. Bond was calling someone on that.{#Yes}

The Pixies cured cancer?

Man. They were influential!

And once again, I would advise all those who don't understand a band to do a little research - why are the Pixies considered so influential? Check it out, with the Internet research is so easy, there is no excuse for laziness. Modern culture is sinking under the weight of narcissism - if I don't like it or understand it, it must be worthless. Shameful.

Boy, I don't see the appeal of this at all. This has no redeeming qualities whatsoever.
What he said (below).
2, maybe 1. Starting to feel like Bill is just trying to annoy me right now...
Stop messing around about Pixies. lalala and nonono. What's your message ? Is it a good or bad band ? Maybe that song is not the best, but haven't you listened to all they provided ?

Because there is apparently a limit to how many times Bill can play Here Comes Your Man.

Very true.  This is the most amateur-sounding band I've ever heard on RP.

I've had this in mind for the recessional at my wedding. Told a friend of mine about it and he stole my idea! Well, I guess if you ain't married by 38, then I guess the friends won't wait fer ya...

Yeah, we need more from this album. I've played it album hundreds of times back when it came out. Wanted to upload "Hey", but my CD is worn and scratched on that track.
aawwww... happy valentine's day everyone!
David Lovering's finest hour! Guitar is great, too.

I uploaded Lady in the Radiator Song, their take on the track from David Lynch's ERASERHEAD. Rejected, maybe Frank DID scream a bit too much? Anyway, a good track to ferret out.
