Don't hold yourself like that
cause You'll hurt your knees
well I kissed your mouth, and back
But that's all I need
Don't build your world around
Volcanoes melt you down

And What I am to you is not real
What I am to you, you do not need
What I am to you is not what you mean to me
You give me miles and miles of mountains
And I'll ask for the sea

Don't throw yourself like that
In front of me
I kissed your mouth, your back
Is that all you need?
Don't drag my love around
Volcanoes melt me down

What I am to you is not real
What I am to you, you do not need
What I am to you is not what you mean to me
You give me miles and miles of mountains
And I'll ask

What I give to you is just what I'm going through
This is nothing new, no, no just another phase of finding
what I really need is what makes me bleed
But like a new disease, Lord, she's still too young to treat
Volcanoes melt you down
She's still too young +what iam to you+you do not need+is not real
I kissed your mouth
You do not need me

Try Ed Sheeran.

It's a ludicrous irony that women tend to use that phrase much more than men.
It was good to hear this again after so much time...
The overlapping voices at the end sound like a couple of cats meowing

Where on earth do you find this crap?

        I'm wondering as well.
Such an unusual arrangement, bought it using mp3 link to Amazon. RP has me adding 2-3 new songs a month. Where else would this get played? Always surprised by the negative comments, guess my tastes are eclectic. This song is too unique to pass by without a listen.
Truly, at the moment, just what I needed.
Just wanna slap this singer around and say "grow a pair!!"
What NoEnzLefttoSplit say. What a dreadful little song. ASTS.
volcanoes is an unfortunate metaphor.. I mean they don't melt you down. they might cover you in ash, asphyxiate you or just dump a ton of hot or cold rock on you.. Not really very good in the love department.
Double Plus Good Quite Likeable
I think I heard these two going at it on my back lawn last night.  Pesky horny cats get on my nerves.

Skynard? Hobbit Rock all the way.
Brock Sampson Led Zeppelin
Is this a masterpiece or a shambles?  I can never make up my mind.

It's Radio Paralyse again. Very depressing song.

An annoyance not unlike Edie Brickell who was shooting rubber bands at the stars. I'll pass this one by.

The first twenty minutes or so of this album is really worthwhile, but it gets tiring pretty quickly after that IMO.

This is great though.

I agree...it is best enjoyed in bits and pieces...too much of a good thing is too much to take...

No, no: the song has asthma. Where's that damned inhaler?

amazing how different people's tasts can be. I love this song and have for years and years.

Just the kind of chill song great for walk back home from work. Nice tune.

looking at release date on this album, just realized i've been listening to RP for 10 years. this was one of the first new artists I heard here. hard to believe it's been that long...

This is god-awful. Please make it stop. Repetitive, boring, horrible voice to boot,
Fantastic song. Everyone in my cubicle loves this song.
Anybody else just hear a cacophony of cats?

Endlessly boooooooring!

I think that if I'd only heard the first couple of minutes then I might have quite liked it, but I REALLY don't like that ending. Shame.
{#Devil_pimp}
Absolutely annoying dribble!
I head the acoustic version of this song a long time ago and it is a much better version. Way more energy and emotion to it.
God... this is totally annoying and sappy

Yes and the Abbey Road You Tube Video....
This reminds me that I need to listen to more from Lisa Hannigan (who sings beautifully with Rice on this track).  Her recent solo album Passenger is great.
This started off good, then totally went south.
Great groove!
a soft voice,
nice song.

I'm amazed at all the negative comments. I think this is a fantastic, simple, elegant song... (one might even say 'soooo good for the ears').

The 'cat' noises are these cool stringed instruments that are typically played with bows called cellos (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cello).

Me too.  I love the duet outro.   Needs a decent sound system to do it justice.

Check out "9 Crimes" on the follow up LP.  Stunning.
There are many, many more worthwhile songs than this crap
Geez...why all the hatin' in here?
Years ago I really liked this song ... now I don't.  Go figure.

{#Stop}Incredibly annoying, oh my god!!!!!!!!!

Love this song and this album. I wish his second album was anywhere near as good (it's still good, but much less so).

Comments like this annoy the crap out of me. Who cares what you're "supposed to" like. Either you like it or you don't. It's like when you hear someone say, "I liked that song until I found out it was by (insert name here)". Again, either you like it or you don't. "Popular" doesn't equal "good". If other people have a problem with it, screw 'em. I for one really like this song, but Damien Rice overall is hit-or-miss with me. For the songs that work, they are great, but there are quite a few that are a little too slow, sparse, and melancholic for me. BTW, I also like DMB. Got a problem with that?

Uhh.... good point. But you might think about cutting back the steroid consumption a wee bit. Wouldn't want you to go all Brock-Sampson on us and start ripping the heads off emoticons!

Great song.

I have a pug that barks at thunderstorms that has better harmony than this.

Not exactly my cup o tea.

Please....someone feed those cats!

I'll give it a 3, but reserve the right to downgrade it the next time it's played.

I was listening to this and went to rate it, as i was reading this exact comment (see above) the voices trying to make it into a round started..
I agree, It doesn't work at all..and up until that point I had it in the 6-7 range...
(loved the cello)
Man, this reminds me of Jennifer Knapp!
I've always loved this. Don't understand it, exactly, but I love it anyway.

Wow, this is truly awful...
It's not the voices, but the strings, that give me the creeps. But it does a nice job cleaning out my sinus, though.

Maybe in another time and place these vocals would intertwine beautifully... but when I'm at my computer writing code, it's horribly distracting.

Damien Rice - Volcano Remy Zero - Life In Rain They sound the same, as at first for a second I thought that Remy is Damien :)

NO!!! Then they will all congregate and make more horrible noises. (see below) I can not listen to this guy-such irritating sounds-not singing- coming out of his mouth
Sounds like cats in the backyard....2
Kind of funny how time change your view on certain things. A few years ago, I listened to this album endlessly, and loved every bit of it. Nowadays, I cannot stand the forced whimpering. Older and wiser, mayhaps? Or just older?

I heard a rumor that whenever he's recording, the assistant engineer is required to kick him in the crotch exactly 5 min before each vocal take.

Sounds like Shawn Colvins ( Sonny Came Home ) cord progression going on here...

Why has Tanita Tikaram changed her name to Damien Rice?
sounds like an androgynous choir. strange.
this sounds like Sean Hayes!! Bill you got to play some Sean Hayes!!
I thought I maybe worked too hard today and my head was imploding, but no, its just this song

horrible. and the cover is an insult to every graphically inclined person on the planet. so there.
Sounds like two women.
Good record.
Not one of my favorite songs from a pretty good album.
I like this. It's the simplicity that apeals to me. The lyrics "we hang in the balance of hell and hallowed ground. Every single one of us could use a little mercy now" Too true.
I agree with Angelof9...I kinda like it. It seems like he's in emotional conflict about a girl and the vocals at the end are all the different thoughts battling it out in his mind. On a side note, both Lisa Hannigan and the girl that plays the cello in this video fog my glasses up, they're so hot. Sure wish I knew a girl that played cello...I'd love to perform this live sometime.
