There are only a few chord progressions if you're playing blues music; the most common being a I-IV-V.  Someone should've told you that.

Such fine memories! This was getting a lot of airplay, tape-deck and turntable time when I was living and working up in Summit County the 1st time, the summer and fall of '84. Saw him at CU Event Center in '85 and at Red Rocks with Bonnie Raitt and Taj Mahal in '86...

I love almost everything that exists in music. But Steve is the only guy in the world who can trigger such a big smile on my face and drive me burst into laughter of joy every time he starts a solo. Pure love, pure beauty, pure life, pure humanity, pure talent, pure intensity, pure perfection, straight to the soul. I miss so much my short life as an Austinite, saluting Steve's statue while jogging on Colorado river. His âme floats on every tree and every stone in the city. Greetings to Joe's Generic Bar where all Steve's disciples play every night. Wish I'll be back there one day.

Never understood the hero worship for this guy. I chalked it up at the time (mid 80s) to blues ignorance and a yearning to escape the music which was contemporary to that time. Frankly, he was a good blues guitarist, couldn't sing a lick, couldn't hold a candle to the black legends or even to the white masters like Johnny Winter or Roy Buchanan. Actually, once saw him on a double bill with Roy in New ORleans back in 83 and Roy, the opener, blew him away.

I agree that my comment does not make much sense. I know that I was trying to make some point, but I am mystified as well! I've always thought that the difference between great and has-been for guitarists is simply a matter of IQ, not raw talent. I mean, look at Kenny Wayne Sheppard.
