Everything is going up.
Everything is going as planned, yeah.
Everything moves along.
Everything is fine, fine, fine.

Oh I could be
Condemned to Hell for every sin but littering.
I could
Slip on the East River and crash into Queens all skittering.
I've seen the
Cops and the robbers, and I know they dance the same.
I've seen a
Half a zillion girls and haven't spoken to a single one of them.

Batting in the light,
My reptile-lidded eyes.
And all this strung end to end,
Is wider than the mind.

And this cool I've been playing I have been
Playing too long now my
Capacities are dwindling 'til they're
Gone Gone Gone.

Baby can I change my mind?
I just want to change my mind.

Doughty without Soul Coughing is like Pete Townsend without the Who.  The sum was far greater IMHO.

My god they were good in concert!  Saw SC at least three times.  Still mourning their break-up.

So much so! But I never saw them live. Pity pity pity!
Irresistible groove

BG, can you fix the name of the song? It's "The Idiot Kings". You've got an extra "s" in there.

Portishead into Soul Coughing (into Neil Young!). Great mixing today Bill!

Working late and this track just perked me up. LOVE Soul Coughing, and i commiserate with iscoot4peace. I too, mourn their break-up.

Any Doughty is good Doughty. Especially like it when he gets all New York-y on our ass. {#Cheesygrin}

Along with Morphine, the band that I always say was the first band of the 21st Century. Ahead of their time.
Way back when I stumbled onto RP and Soul Coughing was one of the first bands they turned me onto. Went right out and bought "Ruby Varoom" and it's still a favorite. Great band, offbeat and not for everyone, but I find that their fans are really devoted.
Soul Coughing put on a hell of a show.  Doughty puts on a great show as well - different, but great.
YES!
More Soul Coughing and Doughty please.

Giddee-up.

it's wonderful. i agree. not sure what my fav is. i like bliss, i like ruby - i prefer ruby to bliss. but this is good. didn't take me 40 listens to like either cd. happened right away.

I don't need to walk around in circles walk around in circles walk around in

Crazy...I was JUST thinking about wanting to hear some Soul Coughing on RP and now here we are!

Awesome!    {#Cool}

I have, just into a bucket of water

30 or 40 listens? Are you out of your mind? Why not just stab red-hot pokers into my ear canal and make it quick?
Sounds like a deal. I'll help! Just kidding. I'm thousands of miles away. Edit: Seriously though, I've probably listened to Ruby 25 times now, and it is starting to work. Still some stuff on it that I don't get. On the other hand, Bliss worked right from the get go, and hasn't gotten old yet.
Love this song and album. How can you not bob your head to that?

Weird....I really liked a lot of Soul Coughing's music, but I can NOT stand Mike Doughty! This is funkygood!
That's what makes life interesting ... everybody's different. I feel just the opposite. I love Mike Doughty. Haughty Melodic is one of my favorite albums.
I never understood this band. Maybe I'm not hip with what you kids (today) are into. :) I'll pass on passing judgment for now.

I wish they were still together!!! Sould Coughing rocks in funky goodness!
Sweet!
This isn't too bad... it could grow on me.

Cheers Mike! I remember he opened for Gomez in SF. Groovy show.
I love that bass introduction; it's one of my favorite things in music.

I bought Ruby Vroom based on "Is Chicago, Is Not Chicago". Very dissapointed. The CD quickly gets repetitive - one-trick pony.

I love The The and hate Matt Johnson. Likewise Smashing pumpkins are cool but wow that billy what a tool get rid of him....hmm How can you like a bands music and hate the heart and soul. This is the second time I've seem someone take a pot-shot at Doughty with nothing to back it up... wasn't you was it?

'tis crud
Mike Doughty...if you like Soul Coughing you'll probably like his other stuff...The other stuff is less scat-ish and more typical lyrics...busting up a starbucks is a lighthearted romp.
Everything is fine, fine, fine...I know plenty like that.
One of those voices you instantly recognize. I have no idea what this guy looks like or what his name is, but if I met him on the street and he said hi (or sung hi, I should say) I would know who he is.

I guess he like Alanis Morrisette
well.. i'm pretty sure this was out before Alanis Morisette... could be wrong, but nonetheless, this is much better than Alanis, albeit, not one of my favorite Soul Coughing songs. i'm more into the album Ruby Vroom, and my two cents is that True Dreams of Wichita is by far the best Soul Coughing song...
How annoying. Fine Fine Fine Fine Fine Fine

My thoughts exactly. But his "Fine fine fine" gets on my nerves!
i always liked super bon bon. move aside and let the mango thru. let the mango through. but this song is nice too. and yeah, i know it's not really mango.
I guess he like Alanis Morrisette
I bought Ruby Vroom based on "Is Chicago, Is Not Chicago". Very dissapointed. The CD quickly gets repetitive - one-trick pony.

All Mike's songs only have 12 english words in them. And he just reads them over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and....

Great compliment for a band, believe me! Very honest too. Some serious groove going on there

Me too exactly! - except for the part about having a band, which I never did. But if I had had one, I would have wanted it to be this good also. So, kind of not really me too, but sort of. Or maybe not. I digress....
