The sky is cryin....Can't you see the tears roll down the street
The sky is cryin....Can't you see the tears roll down the street
I've been looking for my baby
And I wonder where can she be

I saw my baby early one morning....She was walking on down the street
I saw my baby early this morning....She was walking on down the street
You know it hurt me, hurt me so bad
Made my poor heart skip a beat

I've got a real real real real bad feelin
That my baby she don't love me no more
I've got a real real bad feelin that my baby don't love me no more
Well , this guy, this guy's been cryin
Can you see the tears roll down my nose

I must be paying some kind of different attention today. I just realized how much the organ in this song really matters, holds the whole thing together and keeps it moving.

A "12" button.

So talented - why was he taken from us?
Bill. Where is the 11 button?! There MUST be an 11 button for this one.
He was truly an original .. and I think the title of this song was use to headline the announcement of his death in 1990. Great cut.
Lotsa hype around SRV in his day, all driven by his record label and its "power brokers". Everything he does here is one big cliche. Never held a candle to Johnny Winter or the Old School originators.
Nice guitar.  Dude ought to get over feeling sorry for himself.   Baby don't love you no more? Move to another state.  Give you an 8 for the axe, a 3 for the self-pity.  Or maybe you just sucked as a romantic.
SRV was more of a technician than an artist, at least early in his career.  Really enjoyed Family Style with brother Jimmy though - that was a lot more fun and creative.
Every note is hackneyed and derivative yet the man was hyped and celebrated beyond belief.
Oh, so bittersweet.

I was working north of Chicago (near the Wisconsin border) at the time. Every weekend, I would sit by the hotel pool and listen to this and Steely Dan's "Aja" on my cassette Walkman. I guess my memory of this album is stuck to that moment in time, because a little while later I was staying at that same hotel when I heard the news of SRV's tragic death, only a few miles away from me....
sad he's gone. never dug him. treated like he was the "second coming" but just another latecomer, white boy blues player to me.
saw him in New Orleans. Roy Buchanan opened and ......blew him away
"set me up again Barry! aw right Stevie, after Emmylou and some ole redhead Willie Nelson, goldang this some good shit Boss!!! Thank you!"
Damn this is good!
Very nice tune!
I've always loved SRV. Now there's a new guy in town. Joe Bonamassa !!
Love the whammy bar fade out at the end.
Not my cup of coffee at all...
Oh yeah..  Go getum Stevie.. Timeless this one is..{#Bananajam}

SRV is revered...I get it.  This is not an inspired cover.

SRV did not read music, so whoever transcribed that sheet music had one hell of a time.

Stevie just felt the music. It flowed out of him somehow. Transcendent.

Blues music is not for everybody. I think blues music is something you grow into or not. If you can only listen to it melodically (if that's even a word), than i understand you think it's all the same. I thought the same some years ago but after attending a blues festival and seeing a few artist express their feelings through this kind of music it became something totally new for me. The art is in making somebody believe the story you're trying to tell and not every blues artist is capable of that.

So for me blues music is something really unique in the world of music, but like i said, i understand if somebody feels the exact opposite.

So that's another 2 cents...

Probably worth 3 or 4 cents at least.  I can dig Stevie, Shostakovich, Thelonious and Thile...  good is good.  But, music is also enjoyed like a flavor and we all don't have the same palate.  And it's OK.  But man, Stevie is really delectable !

It's a gorgeous cover of a blues standard.  How anyone could rate it less than a 6 (assuming they don't have a pathological hatred of blues rock) is beyond me.  :)

It's the blues, beautifully interpreted by SRV and his nasty guitar; I don't see the problem.

had the fortune & blessing to see SRV in Dallas; LA and Austin.

The coolest had to be on auditorium shores in Austin with the Austin skyline behind him and the lights reflecting off the Colorado river/aka Town Lake.

At the Bronco Bowl in Dallas was pretty cool too as Eric Johnson opened the show. {#Sunny}

Bill, I am really glad to be hearing more SRV recently. Great soulful guitar work, and IMHO will always deserve some air time. Died far too early, and lead a pretty rough life (mainly his own doing). Anyway thanks, and keep up the good work.

Include everything but the smoke, and I'm in.
I don't smoke but my cousin and I shared a good cigar when we went to the Jeff Beck/SRV concert in Denver in 1989. I was 15. Apparently there are bootlegs of that show: (click here)

This guy really could convey the blues. A master of the guitar, truly. One really has to think that the night he died, the world would have lost a talented guitarist no matter what- Eric Clapton got off the helicopter to give Stevie the seat. Ain't life strange?
Divine
I had to crank this one up when it came on!

you'll notice that almost every single song on RP has been given a 1 by someone and a 10 by someone else. It's pretty amazing. As for me, I've just heard this too many times to still enjoy it.
Wunnerful segue into SRV, from Muddy Waters! Just wunnerful! A 10.

Thanks Stevie Ray for all the wonderful music during your short stay with us ....
And just a flawless, and sublime segue from Muddy Waters' Howling Wolf to Stevie. Two masters for price of one.
Does it get any better than this?
Let me be the first to say (here, at least): SRV, you're much missed. And: I dedicate this track to Beez.
