The greatest lost track of all time
The Late Greats' Turpentine
You can't hear it on the radio
Can't hear it anywhere you go

The best band will never get signed
The Kay-Settes starring Butchers Blind
So good you won't ever know
They never even played a show
Can't hear them on the radio

The greatest singer in rock 'n' roll
Would have to be Romeo
His vocal cords are made of gold
He just looks a little too old

The best songs will never get sung
The best life never leaves your lungs
So good you won't ever know
You'll never hear it on the radio
Can't hear it on the radio

Stars be damned!  This shows what Wilco can do anytime, anywhere (for over 2 decades).
These guys are newly in heavy rotation on the PC and on my mobile. (Discovered late, yes, but no less a big fan...)
I don't have this but started with Sky Blue Sky.  What excellence !!!!!
quite nice

(that white on white cover art is a great image for practicing your pencil sketching, the values of shadow and distinctive lines lead you to both concentrate and deeply meditate)

This song is very special to me— it's my 2 year old daughter's favorite song. Started when I used to throw her up in the air as baby/toddler to this tune, and now she jumps around the room any time we play this song. Even does a finger-to-mouth sh-sh-sh-sh during the quiet piano interlude.

Thank you very much for that. I'm not a Wilco fan and this is about their only song that I could tolerate. Now, I'll jump along with her.

how do these guys keep getting away with such mediocrity?

Because an increasingly mediocre society/world...begets mediocrity...for it's own sake.

Acceptance...on this long, strange ride..

No different than the rest of the country these days...f'up and move up.

I normally never post here. I just think you should know that the life version on Kicking Television is a far superior version, of this already good song.

Also, how in the world do I get to hear "The Late Greats - Turpentine"
Listen to the feedback building on the break ... They are cooking

AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!  I've been waiting to hear this song since I started listening to RP about 6 months ago.  Thanks!!!!  Love it!

Wilco is playing 5 (count em) 5! shows in Chitown in February. Tix are $25 each. They plan on playing everying they have recorded, all mixed up. Should be fantastic!!!
Excellent. Sounds like what Pearl Jam did over a few days in Boston. Wish I lived in Chi town - well no not really.
Yup, you can't hear it on the radio. Pity that
...this has got to be my favorite wilco song...

Pick up "Sky Blue Sky" and listen through a couple times and I think you'll get them. Best cd of 2007 so far. kazuma wrote:
You and me both. Occasionally I hear something brilliant from them (e.g., Can't Stand It), but the rest of their stuff doesn't do a thing for me. I have one of their CDs (Being There), which I listened to many times, and I can't remember a damn thing from it. This track doesn't do anything for me either. I don't hate 'em or anything, but on the other hand I am definitely not getting it. Go figure.
Geeze...Tweedy really ripped off that NY riff (Everyone Knows this is Nowhere) for this song, didn't he?
dp
This is the ending track that is the saving grace for "A Ghost is Born", after all the noise and experimentation that precedes it. Absololutely awesome.

See, this one is very good, and I usually don't like these guys. 7. A little bouncy, simple yet clever lyrics. An honest-to-goodness pop song. Didn't click over to see the title until the song was over, and I was shocked to see it was wilco. Is it me, or do these guys just spend about 70% of the time being professionally dull? I don't mean to dis, I'm just perplexed. Do they have more like this? Ya know, fun & catchy?
My least favorite Wilco album, but this is a nice little song.

Sounds like My Old Kentucky Home. Anyone else get that?

... Wow, this a catchy little ditty.
this is about the catchiest song on the album. depression took it's toll on this one. check out some other albums besides "ghost."
they are an ACL festival favorite and by God this is why!!!!!!!!!!
I think it's time I get myself some Wilco. Wow, this a catchy little ditty.

Check the Wilco's documentary/movie, it is a great way to get to know them...
Where is the Wilco documentary to be found? I like their sound, they are new to me.
Just saw Wilco in New Orleans on 4/21. Excellent live show. Big, big sound, six outstanding musicians. The energy, talent, creativity, and discipline combine to easily lead the audience from blissful calm to thrashing extremity and all emotions in between. Really nice video and light effects, too. They make many other bands seem lazy and meaningless by comparison. Finally, an example of music for the new millenium.
Are there many bands better than Wilco right now? Not many, IMO.
Appropriate to follow the Traveling Wilburys with this song. Harrison and Orbison certainly qualify as "late greats."
Great stuff!! this could be my favourite off the new album.
I just had to bump this from a 8 to a 9. Yup.
I don't know why everyone is attacking Wilco lately. A Ghost is Born is an excellent album with amazing songs. It sucks that Jay Bennett is gone, but that doesn't mean the band sucks, too. Wilco still makes great music. People are just upset because they were expecting Yankee Hotel Foxtrot II. What do you want, more of the same? I applaud bands for doing something different each album, and that's what Wilco does. They are a very talented band with a lot of outstanding albums ahead of them. Just because the direction they headed in was unexpected does not mean it is bad. In fact, I actually like it better than Yankee Hotel Foxtrot. Yes, I said it! I think that album, while good, is a bit overrated.

They miss Jay Bennett big time.Tweedy, while way talented, needs a foil. The new lineup shows none of the finesse displayed on previous masterpieces BT, Summerteeth and YHF. Some definite de-evolution here. Also from what I've heard the current tour is a feedbackfest.
Spiccoli? That just struck me. "Hey, I know that dewd!"

If you like this cut, then check out either GHOST IS BORN or YANKEE HOTEL FOXTROT If you like more Americana sounding mixed with noisy guitar work, then check out BEING THERE. Then check out AM and SUMMERTEETH. Wilco RULZ!
love wilco too. but may i recommend a band named spain. did a search and found zero results. it's really slow and smooth.
Oh, thank you so much for playing Wilco. Buy 'A ghost is born' and listen to the live show from Chicago on the website. I hope someone uploaded 'Hummingbird'. Saw them in Brescia at the end of June and it was fantastic

I just watched it yesterday from Netflix... great stuff!!! I've got a greater appreciation for YHF now.
YAYAYAYAY! Thanks! I just tuned in, and what's this? A head bobbin' toe tappin' tune to put a smile on my face. Thanks RP!
The guitar work on this album kicks so much ass, I can barely sit down.
Check the Wilco's documentary/movie, it is a great way to get to know them...
Wilco's on the cover of the Aug/Sept (issue 11) of Paste magazine.
Only know this band by reputation. Not bad song, sounds like they might be worth checking out :)
