In the brown shag carpet of a cheap motel
In the dark and dusty corner by the TV shelf
Is a small reminder of a simpler time
When a crumpled up pair of trousers lost a brand new dime
Well you ask me how I made it through and how my mint condition could belong to you
When I'm on the ground I roll through town
I'm a president you don't remember getting kicked around
I'm a dime , I'm fine
And I shine I'm freshly minted
I am determined not to be dented
By a car or by a plane or anything not yet invented...

I'm a dime , I'm fine
And I shine
In the hiss and rumble of the freeway sounds
As the afternoon commuters drive their cars around
There's a ringle jingle near the underpass
There's a sparkle near the fast food garbage and roadside trash
I'm a dime, I'm fine
And I shine I'm freshly minted
I'm silver-plated, I'm underrated
You won't even pick me up because I'm not enough for a local phone call...

I'm a dime , I'm fine
And I shine
I'm a dime, I'm fine
And I shine
I'm a dime, I'm fine
And I shine

This band’s music truly sucks!
For me, it becomes pointless rating songs from a band that I just can't get my head around.  I'm always happy to skip songs from Cake and just leave it at that.  They're just not for me.

actually....that one is OK. Italian Leather Sofa is the bomb! Same album. Cake is just fun!

I'm certain that this band would be great live.

They are great live, I saw them back in 1994 in Greenville SC at the now defunct Handlebar Cafe.  They were driving across the country in their van playing in small venues.
There is one good Cake song. "Going the Distance." That is it.
I´ve been at a super small music festival in Austria in 2003 or so. Cake was playing. And some stupid person in the audience threw a beer on the stage. The singer said: 1 more and you better get up on stage - guess what happened... ^^

A friend of mine and I cant remember exactly, but suddenly the stage was full of people and the were fightingn and boxing - like a real bar fight. It was SOOOO hilarious to watch. Honestly  - I remember I heard "Bud Spencer & Terence Hill" Music while we were chilling with a cold beer beside the stage, watching people beating the shit out of each other ^^

I do hope it was Short Skirt/Long Jacket.  That would have been a lot to unpack, but in a good way.
Cake or death? Why, Cake of course
Thanks for playing them
It sounds like The Way Life's Meant To Be by ELO
Shakespeare's cat wrote better poetry: "

Do you like fun? If so, I strongly recommend seeing them live.

I wonder if they're still giving away trees at their shows...

Saw them last week in Dallas.  Good show!  They are still giving away trees.
This song always makes me unreasonably happy, and it's not clear why. I love it.

CAKE gives out trees at shows?  Weird....funny....so totally McCrea/CAKE....lol....Long Live RP!!
Good old cake- feel good, funky, original

This one really had me thinking it was They Might Be Giants...

LOL!!  While I'm totally in disagreement with you about liking CAKE's music, I'll give props to you for thinking of something good about something you don't like....so KUDOS to you, shakylegs!

I'm still at an 8 on this one....almost a 9....witty lyrics make me smile....Long Live RP!!

This is a great album, but this song is one of the crappier ones, imo.
First time hearing this on RP, and it's an 8 from me.  CAKE has a style like NO ONE else - very sly lyrics with a deeper meaning than it seems, both due to the content and really, more due to the vocal delivery....keep on playing the CAKE tracks, BillG!  And Long Live RP!!
Seriously, who else could write an enjoyable song about such a mundane topic? LOVE it!

TOO MUCH CAKE - TIME FOR SOME NEW MUSIC HERE!
Nice little C&W rechannel of "Won't Get Fooled Again".
Huge Cake fan. Finally saw them for the first time this past summer and they were great. A real fun show.
alright! aw, no!

Yup, still love it. Numismatists unite!
Dammit Bill, I thought I told you no more Cake!
i do not even need to look up the station play list. everytime cake comes on i have to turn off the music. fuck i can't stand this band. i don't even try to dislike them - they do it for me. YUCK!
I find this completely inane. The tune is catchy, granted, but the lyrics are insipid. Is this aiming and falling short of funny or ironic, or has it just surrendered to shallow silliness? In either case, it's painful.

I'm sure I am showing my age here, but I thought this was Yaz for a minute!

I was just going to come here to say I give Cake a 10, but I understand if others dont like them. Everything I meant to say was already written though Rock/funk/cake on fellow fans :nodhead:

Same ol' Cake - and that's a good thing ! Yeah, I can hear that Cake has a sound that is pretty consistent across all their stuff - and I can imagine that it grates on some folks. For me, I've got all their CDs, and I can listen to them all back to back - I love 'em. They've got great cutting wit, and any rock band that can make good use of the trumpet gets extra points from me.

Hmm, if you like this I'm wondering which album it was that you thought sucked. Maybe you should pull it out and give it another listen. This is classic Cake sound.

I'm not so sure anyone has ever caked egg on their face. I'm not even sure anyone has ever said that before...

LOTS. MORE. CAKE. And once again, IT'S NOT the eating cake the band is named for. It's the verb, as if I were to cake egg on your face.
Man, I love Cake! These guys are probably one of the most innovative bands out there right now. I agree that they are an aqquired taste. But aren't a lot of great bands like that! You could listen to Barenaked Ladies and say their songs are silly. But you've got to get past that and see the meat of thier music. You could listen to Bob Dylan and say "He can't sing to save his life!" But it's more than that, right? Same with Cake. My dinner is done, bring me some more Cake!!
i'd never really paid any attention to the lyrics before -- this is hilarious...
I enjoy these guys whenever I hear them on RP. Don't know if I'd want to hear 10 tracks of them in a row, but one is very cool!
I'm in. Groovin.
I've found a Cake song I actually like! Damn, that took long enough...

Congratulations! You're BOTH wrong! And Cake is excellent too!
This sounds exactly like their Opera Singer song

:) How nicely put.
alright! okay!
More CAKE!
This is the first Cake album I have gotten into and I am hooked. It started with getting hooked on Wheels, from RP, and then I got the album. If the others are better than this, as people say, I am excited to hear them!

Yes. It is the law. And, don't forget the "oh yes.....oh no" as well!!
I love Cake, but this album was a bit of a letdown for me. No intense surprises as on previous efforts.

You are on crack. I've been listening to RP at work for weeks and I've never heard this song even once.
Can't stand Cake. Going to mute.

It's fitting that my first post is on a Cake song. I love this band. Would love to see them live some day. I missed them this past summer at a beer fest in San Diego, due to a camping trip...which was lame.
kick ass. i love this one.
Sounds like They Might Be Giants, 'cept TMBG do this sort of thing "better".

That used to drive me crazy.... Hold on, it still kind of does. The last album was bereft of the "all right"s and "okay"s, but it looks like old Johnny's back at it with Pressure Chief. I still think they rock, though....
These guys are one of the worst bands played on this great station. every song sounds the same, crappy.
Love it!!!

Can't wait to hear this album in full. I love Cake.
Take it All Away is also a kickass song. The first four songs are good, actually (Dime is number 4).

Gee, I'll have a hard time turning that corner with the mute button on. Could you tell me when the song is over so I don't miss any of Bill's good stuff?
"Dime" is to Pressure Chief as "Opera Singer" is to Comfort Eagle. The whole album is quite good, though it took me about five listens to come around. A bit short.
