Would you like to say something before you leave?
Perhaps you'd care to state exactly how you feel
We say goodbye before we've said hello
I hardly even like you
I shouldn't care at all
We met just six hours ago
The music was too loud
From your bed I gained a day and lost a bloody year
And I would like to know
How do you feel?
How do you feel?

Not a single word was said
The night still hid our fears
Occasionally you showed a smile
But what was the need
I felt the cold far too soon
In a room of 95
My friends are lying in the sun
I wish that I was there
Tomorrow brings another town
Another girl like you
Have you time before you leave to greet another man?
Just you let me know
How do you feel?
How do you feel?

Goodbye to you
Charlotte Pringle's due
I've had enough for one day
And I would like to know
How do you feel?
How do you feel?

Not a single word was said
The night still hid our fears
Occasionally you showed a smile
But what was the need
I felt the cold far too soon
In a room of 95
My friends are lying in the sun
I wish that I was there
Tomorrow brings another town
Another girl like you
Have you time before you leave to greet another man?
Just you let me know
How do you feel?
How do you feel?

Goodbye to you
Charlotte Pringle's due
I've had enough for one day

This is the reason why we listen to RP every day. I guess there isn't a radio station in the world other than RP where you can here these gems. Love it!

Radiohead - Nice Dream
Floyd - Summer of 68
Dandy's - Godless
Kula - Govinda

Yeah that works - works brilliantly! [had to come back and edit given following song]

Oooh just had the same sequence again

You know, if you want a station that only plays the stuff you like, go to Pandora and make yourself one.  I happen to love this song, but even when Bill plays one I hate, I'm interested to hear it.  It's about getting another point of view from a human, not just endlessly feeding myself the stuff I already know and love.

Evolve or die, buddy.

Getting another point of view. Yep, it's why one reads novels as well . or travels. Expand your mind, expand your horizons.

This is one of those songs that has been stuck in my head for over 10 years since I heard it last. Good to refresh the grooves in the gray matter.

Edit:
I've come up with a rating system to make your Pink Floyd Rating Experience a little bit easier.

Every PF song starts at 11 If it's a Roger Waters-centric song you may subtract 3 If it's pre-Wall you can't do that From The Wall all but from side a (and isn't Hey You): only subtract 2 If it's The Trial and you didn't catch the R. Crumb reference then you must give it a 10 If you did catch it give yourself a 10 If it's from the Final Cut and you're anti-Waters you can subtract an extra point on general principle (hey it's still a 7 ... or something) If it's a Post-Waters song and Gilmour tried to write/sing something you may subtract 3 If it's instrumental you can't subtract anything If it's a Syd Barrett joint keep clicking the rating menu until an 11 shows up If it's post-Syd Barrett but it's Wright you can add 1 as an epitaph. If Wright's singing about being a lech and you're not into that sort of thing, sub 1 If it lasts longer than six minutes add 1 If BillG plays two PF songs in a row to keep album continuity then apply the Waters/Gilmour rules above, but multiplied by 1/1000 of the year the album cameout. If it's a song you heard in the supermarket subtract 2 There. I hope that helps.
I need a flowchart for this.
I've always loved the collage of styles on this one; so full of the ghosts of Syd... The manic, trippy, oddly-syncopated strumming -- Rick Wright even mimics it with his brilliant keyboard work... The sudden, almost theatrical horn arrangements -- tasty hints of Waters' symphonic masterpieces to come... Makes me want to dig out and hear Patrick Watson's Close to Paradise...

I hear The Beach Boys and XTC in this track and a love all of that:
GĂ©nial
Pink Floyyyyyyyyydddddddddddddd............!!!!!!!
Pet Sounds meets Sgt Pepper!
hardly recognized this as pink floyd. don't remember ever hearing this one before. i like it!
The title track "Atom Heart Mother"  is a worthwhile blast and does contain one of David's classic guitar solos. Next time Atom Heart Mother!
whoa...beatles beach boys
I will never forget, when i first heard this. It was Christmas 1970 and it was my first LP ever. I liked "progressive" music and so I wished the album as a christmas present.
I was 12 years old and didn't have an own record player. So I listened to the music on my grandparents' "Musiktruhe" [Radiogram].
I pulled out the title track on this  recently and OMG - its awesome - parts kept popping  up in my head.  Sure its 25 min so make time to expand your mind.  (for those pre DSOTM  people)
Weird... I would say I am a bit of a Floyd listener - but this feels new to me!

And, contrary to the comments on a lot of music here on RP, it's not a song that 'sounds like PF'

I see what you did there...
I've always loved how they mimic Syd's manic guitar strumming style in this one, with its odd, shifting syncopations and almost breath-like rhythms that come in and fade out like emotions, and it suits the mood of this amazingly candid song about the life of a newly-minted Rock Star who picks up and sleeps with women in every new town, wondering if he's even supposed to care yet not wanting to feel guilty for wishing he were lounging about on the beach with his band-mates. I wore out this 8-track in my '70 Cutlass!
GODLIKE!!
Love the story about the anniversary re-release of the album featuring the AHM cow created out of steel wire, in response to all the comments at the launch of the original - 'Why a cow?'

Seems like the Summer of 68.
never expected to ever hear this on any radiostation...
must be about 35 years ago, i played that (vinyl) record. thanx, bill

I would love to find a live version of this.
This could be an out take from Pet Sounds or Tommy. Fascinating stuff.
LOVE this one! Classic.
A very nice article about the tale of the tortured creation of Atom Heart Mother.

Since Gilmour has decided to dedicate his career to being one of the better Pink Floyd tribute bands out there I don't think he's the best indicator of what a hardcore PF fan thinks.  Pink Floyd was the most interesting before it became a Roger Waters solo project.

This is utter hogwash.  Gilmour was as essential to Floyd as Waters.  Furthermore, he (really they as 2 other members were in on the late PF offerings) hasn't released anything under the PF name in 25 years.

Both Gilmour and Waters play PF songs live, so one could make the exact same argument (i.e. tribute band) about Roger.  Hell, he just did 2 tours of the Wall in the last 5 years.  It's sad what happened between them (and Rick Wright/Nick Mason) but most of the damage was done by Mr. Waters.  This included firing Rick Wright from the band.

I for one am glad for AMLOR and the Division Bell and thankful that PF lived on another 10 years without Roger.
absolutely top - they don't make them like this anymore (in fact no one else ever did)
A classic that both brings many of us to a specific time and place... yet transcends time. THANK YOU, RP!
Briiiillllliiiiaaaannnntt!!! I'm tingling.
we miss you Rick even more after this tune, didnt hear it in a while.. still sounds amazing, so much gems im PF back log
How do you feel?

The piano, trumpets and particularly the church organ make me very very happy. Thank you, PF and RP.

Not their best effort for sure, but an interesting timepiece to listen to once in a while.
since my schooldays one of my favourites floyd tunes.

underestimated rick wright - the george harrison of the floyd if you want - together with the genius of mr gilmour was for me the responsible for the unique PF music signature. of course the lyrics of roger waters (especially from DSOTM on) mede the whole complete.

Their homage to The Beech Boys, with their own slant on it.   Marvellous !
Love the showcase on Rick Wright.  Thanks Bill!

Hearing this again after a very many years, suddenly the trippy piano reminded me of the Robbie Williams song "Feel".  Obviously there is 41 years gap between them and the Robbie Willams one is pure pop but still it might be a nice comparison for RP listeners to compare and contrast them both.

Probably he was referring to other songs on this album. This one is a real gem. Which can't be said of Alan's psychedelic breakfast.

Good luck with your republican party. All american people thinks worst about socialism. Meet Europe and you change your mind. EEUU has a really ancient thinking, since dinosaurus don't see anything similar.

i LOVE this song !
I don't recall ever hearing this....
Come on! Let's all jam to some Funky Dung now! Some of their tastiest improv talents come through in bits and flashes on this record.
Wow!!! This sounds like Beach Boys meet Sgt. Pepper.
My favorite PF song. Goosebumps :)
On of the best songs of PF, really!
THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU for playing this awesome song from my favorite PF era.

Redondo Beach meets the Cavern Club.
This song was supposedly supposed to accompany Alex in Clockwork Orange where the Beeethoven bits are now, but licensing couldn't be agreed again. Would have been amazing.
Edit: Oh no I am thinking of the atom hearth mother suite, the 20 minute long one.

Listen again.
I always liked how this one sounded a lot like it still bears some of Syd's influences...the dreamy melodies coming in and out, the almost childlike innocence in the words, even as they convey adult themes...and oh, so much more cheerful and bouncy than their later trends...
Brilliant! I have never heard this song on any radio station previously. Rick Wright on form.

Everybody in my churches loves this song...

Can I give one more 10?
Thanks Bill, nice to hear one of these once in awhile.  Really enjoyed it in the context of where PF was at that point in their growth and where it fit into the times.

Actually - the Floyd - like hundreds of other musicians including the Beatles - were probably listening to Pet Sounds a lot in the summer of '66 and all the seasons to follow  before they stepped in to record this.

Oh - and the probably listened to Revolver and Sgt Pepper as well.

This is a very cool piece of work.
A favorite Floyd cut, in part because it sounds so different from their other stuff (which I also love).

Didn't like that at all.
Introspective and ahead of their time. Love this tune. Period.

Feel the complete opposite. After that dredge by Sigur Ros it is so good to hear something great from some talented musicians.

The Kinks couldn't carry Floyd's guitar straps or any other equipment.  No really, they asked one time and Waters told em to piss off!
One of the greatest album covers of all time BTW and a great song! 8
I'll second that...  MACROBIOTIC STUFF!

Along with Relayer and a few other pals, I saw "The Wall" tour back in November '10 in Tampa. As expected, it was outstanding...no...it was epic despite the fact that it was performed in a professional ice hockey arena and we had nosebleed seats.  I spoke with one concert goer who had seen the original Wall tour in NY.  He too was positively impressed with Roger's new production.  I can't wait for the DVD to come out for it. We were hoping Gilmour would choose the Tampa show for his one-time impromptu appearance but no dice.  Does anyone know what show he played?  Has he shown up yet? ;)

Yes, Gilmour played at th O2 in London in May. He came on for Comfortably Numb.

Apparently Nick Mason was in the audience but resisted the urge to join in... It is very sad that they no longer have the option to reform as a 4 piece.
