Actually, what gets tiring is seeing the same criticisms over and over from people who get bored if one song sounds similar to another, without even listening carefully enough to find out what the song is about. And who complain about Mark Knopfler even though at his worst, he's head and shoulders above three quarters of the other artists out there.

Sorry to inform you, but French scientists have recently proven that the barfability factor of mister Knopfler is even higher than previously believed (9.967 to be precise) .

I am really glad that Mark Knopfler went past Dire Straits...not that they were bad, but I really like his solo stuff too, and KUDOS for RP for playing this....this you would never hear on the radio that other white meat lolol

The Dixie Chicks could learn a lesson from Mark Knopfler - he doesn't have to use the stage as a pulpit to make statements from, he uses his music to do it for him... which is so much more clever and admirable.
The single from this album "Boom Like That" is all about how McDonalds came into existance.

I think the average of 6.6 is just about right. This is a pleasant song, but nothing amazing from an amazing artist.
You should check out the lyrics on this one. Pretty political. I think Knopfler was focused on them rather than on making the music particularly different sounding.
I agree that RP plays a lot of MK, and that his songs tend to sound the same. But something about this song made me sit up and take notice. I love the words, the melody, the instrumentation. Hearing it here actually caused me to buy this album, my first ever MK purchase. Who knew?
Playing all Mark Knopfler all the time isn't really "eclectic". Especially when the artist has basically one sound in every song.

his soundtrack to "the princess bride" certainly showed another side.
but as far as dire straits and his solo rock stuff goes, he mostly sounds great but mostly the same!
i think "consistent" is the loaded compliment to use here...

Great album, I'd say better than Ragpicker's Dream and on par with Sailing to Philadelphia. One thing I like about MK's CDs is that they're always nice and long. "Postcards from Paraguay" is a standout on this disc.
That first note made me think it would be Chris Isaac's Wicked Game.
