A truly great sad song.  My husband and I played this over and over again after 9/11.  It was a statement of how we felt living just across the river in Brooklyn during that time.
Never played since June 2012. That's really sad... :-(
i love it!
sad sad song..

I find that quite often...I assumed that it was an early sign of of my memory failing.
As for the different ratings, for me its very much down to what I'm in the mood for at the time. Today this is a solid 7 for me.

Yes it is simple, and yet complex at the same time.  Gives me goosebumps too — 10

this tune was in the air by the times a nice girl said she doesn't want to be with me {#Sad}
since then, every time I hear this song, I remember her...

then comes Bill with "The Thrill Is Gone" from BB King, helping me to let her go...

thanks Bill
you really know how to make a playlist

Just came back to the laptop to hear this song and read - https://www.irishtimes.com/newspaper/breaking/2011/0526/breaking35.html

Coincidence ??

And where are we today, musically?  I am sure I speak for everyone when I say we're dying to know.  Moby has many talents, singing is not one of them.  When he collaborates with female vocalists, he's in his element completely.  It doesn't get play here, but his CD Everything is Wrong has a few of the best examples of this. He should return to that, even if almost no one but me would consider it relevant.

Interesting perspective. I can think of a number of artists who contributed and had an impact and then, well, disappeared for one reason or another.
Moby, like training wheels on a bike, was a necessary but now irrelevant component to where we are today musically.
Great song, but although this is now quite old and a little overplayed, we forget Moby's Play album was not so much the singles.  This was one of the few albums you could listen to all the way through (bit maudlin), that's a rare thing.  Can't confirm this but I'm sure every song on the album had some use in commercials. Nice lil earner.    Go Moby Go!!!
Simply. Awesome. {#Sunny}

{#High-five} Right on! He is creating something new. When this album came out it was an eye-opener. Still holds up today, his finest work IMHO.

I still don't understand why ppl considered him to be groundbreaking when he emerged.

Musically, I just don't hear any significant talent or skill in the majority of Moby's work. Harsh, I guess, but he's never impressed me.

I like this, in the same way I like other mass-produced and heavily marketed products, such as fast food.
I like his more "ambiant" recordings; ie:  Hotel, Ambiant, etc.

You missed on both counts, Tex. "He was born Richard Melville Hall, the only son of two Columbia University students living in Harlem, his mother an undergraduate, his father pursuing a doctorate in chemistry and supporting his young family on a teaching assistant's pay. (It was his father who nicknamed him Moby shortly after he was born: he is the great-great-grand-nephew of Herman Melville.) When Moby was 2, his father was killed when he wrecked his car after a drinking bout. His mother moved back to Darien, Conn., her hometown, where her parents could look after her toddler while she worked a series of secretarial jobs." https://query.nytimes.com/gst/fullpage.html?res=9E0DEEDB1739F934A25750C0A9649C8B63&sec=&spon=&pagewanted=5
Why Does My Heart Feel So Bad...yeah, why? Playing this song too much! Voodoo!

This song makes me think of loud yuppie girls drinking too many appletinis. Not that that's a bad thing.

This song is way too repetitive. This song is way too repetitive. This song is way too repetitive.

there's a fine line between pretense (pretentiosity?)/ and narcissism. I think he has made a foray past that line and beyond. I like this song though.
Heal Puffinstuff? Eeeew! Papa, no?
Where's the Pequod when you really need her?
This whole album was amazing when it released...it was totally different than other "electronic" music out there. At least, what I could get my hands on to back in those days! I still love it.

Yeah until the good vocals got destroyed by the computer geek music.
Does anyone else think it sounds like there is a chair being moved around after "feel so bad"? It's at the same place throughout the song. Not to mention that it sound like it was recorded in front of a window air conditioning unit. It's unique enough editing to be interesting. K

I love this song, but your remarks had me actually laughing outloud. :-)
this reminds me of my first love. he brought the album over one night as entertainment. we are over but i still love this track.
Explain to me how someone can get rich and famous repeating the same monotonous arpeggios over and over.

Sorry, I must be missing something... I've got a couple of his albums and enjoy them in an background ambience kinda way. Nothing there I wouldn't let my 3 year old listen to. So why all the outright hatred? C.
Moby, if you are listening and reading, please take note of what happens when you pimp yourself out, musically and politically. See notes below.....
It's the best song moby ever did - that's why I gave it 3 points...

Why does he feel the need to ruin such great music with repetitive and boring lyrics? Does he really believe that he can't sell music that is strictly instrumental?
I hate when I leave the office and I see I missed a song like this one. Would it bother anyone if we played this one again? stubbsz wrote:

Moby....mmmmmm
"These open doors..." says it all to me. One of the best songs on one of the best albums of the last 10 years.
I can't criticize Moby for licensing the music from Play. It got the word out, and, at it's core, it's still good stuff. Just wish the followup album was as strong.
