What evidence do you have in support of that position? Yeah, that's what I thought. The man exudes integrity. As for this song, and your complaints about it, artists often channel what they perceive to be the thoughts and voices of others. That is what art is all about --conveying message and emotion.

Since Bruce's return with The Rising I've been monstrously impressed with his work. Not since Nebraska have I heard such depth and investment in his craft. If you fell away from Bruce in the 80's, it might be time to give him another chance.

Never have been a big Bruce fan, BUT I like the subtleness and quiet of this new album. And you criticizers....get a life. Bruce is Bruce. Why do we CARE if he is a poseur, or a millionaire, or an asshole? Nobody seems to remember, the guy is a MUSICIAN first and foremost. Everything else is beside the point. No..."sup wit dat" is just included for goofiness factor. And I suppose I wouldn't quite know whether it was an Asbury Parkism anyway, since I didn't grow up there...it was quite dodgy when I was a kid, and even up until a few years ago... But good point about Fogerty...

I have a friend who hates Springsteen with a passion, and I still can't understand why. She seems to share the same sentiments of those below -- thinking he's some kind of "poseur" making believe he's a working-class guy when he's really a rich rock star. Yet it's common knowledge that he's really committed himself to a number of causes, and doesn't just pay them lip service. The guy has obviously always poured his entire being into his performances -- you have to mop his sweat off the floor. So why this vitriolic attitude toward him and not toward all the other obvious phonies out there? Beats me. I guess it's true, no good deed goes unpunished...

One of the best live acts there is...can't wait for the acoustic tour. The people with beefs about this track probably don't know anything about Springsteen or any of his songs that weren't on the Greatest Hits Album. i am not a BRUCE fan (never was), but he has made some great music. some i can do without, but some is most awesome!!!! give credit where it is due. and its possible it ain't true about his mansions etc.....he owns an organic farm in NJ, helps out in asbury park and a local theatre near his town. don't kid yourself about where mick jagger, bob dylan, joni mitchell, eric clapton, george harrsion and the like live. not in a 2 bedroom home please!!!!!!!!

I start it out as a 7. Need to hear it a few more times to judge if it's any better than that. Springsteen is one of the few who does both ends of the rock/folk spectrum well.

Stipped down has ultimately been the best-Bruce over the past two decades. But then listen to "Prove It All Night" and "Point Blank" off of the Winterland '78 bootleg.

The beginning has the sound of a Greg Brown tune from "The Poet Game:. Right from the very start of this song you can see that Springsteen is a master writer and craftsman. Great to have the stripped-down Bruce (ala Nebraska) back.
