Listening for the first time myself. What a lovely tune. Robert Plant gets a lot of grief for his relatively short career with Led Zeppelin. But this was less than 25% of his career. It's almost as if he said, "Rock Star, I've done that. I want to be an artist now."

Listening at work, not sure what the theme was this Cinco de Mayo, a folk vibe, Leo Kottke, Dolly the Goddess and this absolute gem I've never heard (Thanks RP) with this voice (possible embedded in my heart/memory/genes) just so so so like none other. Bravo Bill and Rebecca, for keepin it lit.

I've seen Robert appear at Fairport's Cropredy Convention twice - first time in 1992 as a surprise guest, and again in 2008. He performed 'Battle of Evermore' with them, Kristina Donahue taking on Sandy's vocals. Earlier in the day, he was seen mixing with the crowds round the beer 'tent', just being a normal guy and not the rock god he really is. Duuuuuude!

This is one of those songs that are amazing in their circular simplicity and perfection. I got the chords and played it on my acoustic guitar, it's easy yet there's a certain complexity to the arrangement in terms of the subtle emphasis in the measures. Really masterful. That whole CD is one of my favorites of the past few years. Robert Plant is still making some great music.

I'm very proud to say that I once threw the goat to Robert Plant while on-stage in the middle of singing and playing a song and he nodded back at me on his way by. The song I was playing was one I wrote called "Dreamland", which was the title of his very next solo album. Hmmmmmmm.....

It's not often that an artist who embarks on a solo career from a group as big as Led Zepplin, ever really succeeds. Robert Plant's solo career is every bit as listenable, but probably even more creative than Led Zepplin ever was. Even when he covers songs, he seems to add to it rather than detract, as is so often the case. I recently bought " dreamland". WOW

Fate of Nations was one of the first CD's I bought. It took me a while to grow into it, but once I did it became one of my favorite records. "If I Were A Carpenter" is a gem of song. parrothead wrote:

Why should he have retired? I don't think Plant sees his music as some sort of day job. Of course it's not going to be as good as the Led Zep days, but what is? Does it bother you to hear him make 'mortal' music? And is that why he should stop doing what he loves?

This is becoming one of my favorites from this CD. If it weren't for RP and information provided by RP forum contributors, I would never have stumbled across this gem. Both he and Steve Winwood are favorite performers, and I've been delighted by both of their recent releases (albeit, Winwood's was in 2003--I'm just now getting there). Good tunes, good lyrics, lots of layers to peel back which causes one to listen to the cd over and over, and over again! Thanks again RP and all you opinionated people.

everything i've heard from rearanger has been pretty good, his other recent album in this same veign 'dreamland' is good also. i didn't like it much at first but it really grows on you, a couple classics buried in his newr stuff. i guess his voice of old was never what drew me to zep and I quite like this sound, a nice blend of contemporary folk sounds infused with heartelt emotion.
