Swift and true - straight to my heart
Love has come courting and I'm back there again
I pour myself a brand new start
Glad to be falling for the beauty within

All the king's horses - all the king's men

I'm on the outside looking in
Over and over and over again
There's no telling where I've been
How I returned here - how much I have seen

All the king's horses - all the king's men

I'll weave a circle round the sun
Throw down my arms and give my all
I'll be your soldier of love

I'll weave a circle round the sun
Throw down my arms and give my all
I'll be your soldier of love
I am your soldier of love

Glad to be falling for the beauty within
The beauty within, the beauty within

?!?

Sounds just like Plant. I like this a lot more than the title track to this album which RP played quite a bit for a while...

First I heard it (likely here whenever it started playing), it sounded like him to my ear.

i love that image ....
I have not listened to this album since it’s release and this holds up

Throw in a bass decent player and you never know. Nah, probably go over like a Led....................................
Just Lovely.

Listening for the first time myself. What a lovely tune. Robert Plant gets a lot of grief for his relatively short career with Led Zeppelin. But this was less than 25% of his career. It's almost as if he said, "Rock Star, I've done that. I want to be an artist now."
Soooo nice😎

I've seen Robert appear at Fairport's Cropredy Convention twice - first time in 1992 as a surprise guest, and again in 2008. He performed 'Battle of Evermore' with them, Kristina Donahue taking on Sandy's vocals. Earlier in the day, he was seen mixing with the crowds round the beer 'tent', just being a normal guy and not the rock god he really is. Duuuuuude!

Another first for me here at RP. That's a very lovely song. No singing histrionics at all and a sweet, thoughtful tune. If one doesn't listen too closely, or isn't familiar with Zeppelin, one might never guess it was their singer. And that shape and sound shifting, my friends, is talent.

Well said.  First time for me to hear this. Very nice piece.
Stop Bob.

Most excellent - Robert Plants unique sound is one of, if not, my favorite.

as surprising song... I normally don't like him (or his protege Jack White) but this one was nice to listen to.
Trite, trite, trite......... sick of it the third time I heard it.
love his voice.
i like it.

Even more pressing, why would a man want to lift miserable discontent every day, especially when it ruins his sweet music.
This is one of those songs that are amazing in their circular simplicity and perfection. I got the chords and played it on my acoustic guitar, it's easy yet there's a certain complexity to the arrangement in terms of the subtle emphasis in the measures. Really masterful. That whole CD is one of my favorites of the past few years. Robert Plant is still making some great music.
Nice one Bob
I'm very proud to say that I once threw the goat to Robert Plant while on-stage in the middle of singing and playing a song and he nodded back at me on his way by. The song I was playing was one I wrote called "Dreamland", which was the title of his very next solo album. Hmmmmmmm.....
liftin' weights? Call me old fashioned 'cept I could think of a whole lot better things to be doing whilst listen to Robert Plant . . . ;)

Probably a man who should rather be listening to a BeeBop station.
Just flippin\' superb!

Slow crunches, Studmuffin! It'll pump you up!
It's not often that an artist who embarks on a solo career from a group as big as Led Zepplin, ever really succeeds. Robert Plant's solo career is every bit as listenable, but probably even more creative than Led Zepplin ever was. Even when he covers songs, he seems to add to it rather than detract, as is so often the case. I recently bought " dreamland". WOW
Truly "Outstanding"
I just love this song. It's so beautiful and inspiring. Just a perfect love ballad.
Never heard this side of Robert Plant.. very nice!
i like it!
Too much Zepp and not enough Led for my tastes. Needs an edge.

that combined with the warmth of The Rain Song or Goin' to California... I like this one.

no it's different enough. the song itself is different too. i think he did a good job with this one.

is out. Pick up all his solo albums for Xmas, plenty of B Sides. He continues to amaze after all these years.
Very nice, this is only the second track that i've heard off this record. As for the moron who thinks Robert Plant should of retired after the demise of Led Zeppelin, you are clueless and most likely (hopefully) too young to know better.
Would be amusing to hear this followed by All the King's Horses by . . . The Firm.
so so
Ah, Robert, your voice still makes me wonder
Beautiful
The Man still has it...niccccce...!
Fate of Nations was one of the first CD's I bought. It took me a while to grow into it, but once I did it became one of my favorite records. "If I Were A Carpenter" is a gem of song. parrothead wrote:

Compare the figures on the album cover with this: Mille et trois souffles d'écorce ou la derniÚre forêt en marche

Why should he have retired? I don't think Plant sees his music as some sort of day job. Of course it's not going to be as good as the Led Zep days, but what is? Does it bother you to hear him make 'mortal' music? And is that why he should stop doing what he loves?

Maybe to save the higher ratings for even better songs? It's kind of a hard competition with all that good music here at RP.

So... Just because this is Robert Plant, your going to give it a good rating. I personally love the song, but just cause it's plant, doesn't mean u gotta make it a good rating
sweet little song

Plant's upper range is blown, but he's still an incredible vocal stylist. Like it.
I have to say I'm glad the playlist has swung away from the world-beat stuff. This has been really nice.

yup...boring. Plant needs to lay off the bong. zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz. Didn't Donny Osmond do a song called Soldier of Love back in the late 80s?
You're entitled to your opinion, but if you're obsessed with Donny Osmond, I don't think that it's Plant that needs to lay off the bong.
A good song from a great album. His voice is laden with passion, and that's what counts in music. My current favourite from this album would have to be Freedom Fries.
hm, seems like I've previously rated this song. hmm, seems like I gave it a 9. hmmm, seems like it's bed time.

Every time I hear this, I think it's Daniel Lanois. Very similar vocal style.
This is becoming one of my favorites from this CD. If it weren't for RP and information provided by RP forum contributors, I would never have stumbled across this gem. Both he and Steve Winwood are favorite performers, and I've been delighted by both of their recent releases (albeit, Winwood's was in 2003--I'm just now getting there). Good tunes, good lyrics, lots of layers to peel back which causes one to listen to the cd over and over, and over again! Thanks again RP and all you opinionated people.
I like this.

Agreed
I gotta say, it is so wonderful that RObert Plant has kept his voice in such great shape! He's a beautiful singer.......and my mom things he's one hot mutha fracker too!
I like this quite a lot
everything i've heard from rearanger has been pretty good, his other recent album in this same veign 'dreamland' is good also. i didn't like it much at first but it really grows on you, a couple classics buried in his newr stuff. i guess his voice of old was never what drew me to zep and I quite like this sound, a nice blend of contemporary folk sounds infused with heartelt emotion.

Exactly. I'd pretty much written him off. Thanks to Bill, as always, I've rediscovered him. This is great stuff.

Its called growing old gracefully, you foolish people. Where is the dishonour in that ?
Is this what some listeners mean when they complain about Tori Amos getting played every three minutes on RP? Cuz I'm feeling your pain. All Plant, all the time.
Plant is barely himself without page, and without his voice I'm not sure who he is.
I'm leaning toward the 'brown and smelly' camp
If you think of this as a song, it is pretty decent. But if you think OMG THIS GUY IS ROBERT PLANT, then it sucks. BAD.
Sorry, but this is crap.
Come on - only a 7?
..It's sure nice to have some current robert plany goin'... S.

Ahhh...I think I've rather enjoyed a lot of this modern Robert Plant music. Very pleasant. 7.
Vocal stylings a bit like Bruce Cockburn? Or is that Daniel Lanois?
this is quaint
