It must be the choppy, dirty guitar in the background.
I had the volume down low at first and thought it was a bad Radiohead song. Then I found out it was just bad MO. Yuck.
Glad to see my 2 vote made this one drop a point. Perhaps Bill will eliminate it from the playlist soon. We can always hope (but not on this star!!)
Tedious and lacking vitality in any form. If I believed this was the "Star of Hope", I would willingly embrace despair.
Midnight Oil is much better than to put out this junk. Help!
I'm a big Midnight Oil fan, but this one leaves me flat.

Excellent to hear the Oil again with such a great tune. Not sure why, but it seems reminiscent of CSN&Y to me.
Yes, that incident happened on Alan Thicke's late night show, Thicke of the Night. Not one of Garrett's finer moments, but memorable as always.

I remember, several years ago, seeing this band on late night TV...Carson, Letterman, one of the shows. The lead guy, standing with his bandmates on a stage full of crumpled paper, proceeded to pull out a lighter and light the paper on fire. Even his fellow bandmates looked at him as if he was stoned. Before the fire burned anyone, backstage roadies suddenly appeared with fire extinguishers and nervous faces. I don't think Midnight Oil was ever invited back. I hadn't been that impressed with their music, anyway. But that dumb, negligent stunt put them in my "Top Ten" for dumbass bands.
Are you sure about that? It doesn't sound like something Peter Garrett would do, and I couldn't find any reference to it on TV chat pages/web archives/episode guides. And if you have any familiarity with the band - their political activism, Rob Hirst's book, and Peter Garrett's election to the Australian Parilament since leaving the band - there's nothing "dumbass" about them. Having said all that, though, this is not one of their better songs.

even worse than their typically mediocre output... this one sounds like a long lost Billy Idol ballad. no thanks.
ok, seriously, enough of the midnight oil. i can't take it any more. even my dog is bored with this one.

It's too bad the 'singer' can not sing at all. The band is solid, and their message, e.g. in 'Beds Are Burning' is important.
C'mon - the site of that bald guy waving his arms around like a nut was worth the price of admission every time.
