Tell her I'll be waiting
In the usual place
With the tired and weary
And there's no escape
To need a woman
You've got to know
How the strong get weak
And the rich get poor
Slave to love
Slave to love
You're running with me
Don't touch the ground
We're restless hearted
Not the chained and bound
The sky is burning
A sea of flame
Though your world is changing
I will be the same
Slave to love
Slave to love
Slave to love
Slave to love
And I can't escape
I'm a slave to love
The storm is breaking
Or so it seems
We're too young to reason
Too grown up to dream
Now spring is turning
Your face to mine
I can hear your laughter
I can see your smile
Slave to love
Slave to love
And I can't escape
I'm a slave to love
Slave to love
Slave to love
And I can't escape
I'm a slave to love
Slave to love
And I can't escape

I always assumed this song was "Shangri La". Almost 40 years later I find out the real lyrics.

Because otherwise it's a bad song.

A picture of old shackles in the slideshow. LOL.

Sounds very much like Tom Petty's Runaway Trains.
The Smithereens to Bryan Ferry, that hurts. Must be a reason.
Ok, sonically different, but the lyrics match up. Whew!

Ferry's albums always have terrific bop and a delicious female visage : )

Wow - too many negative comments about this song (although some of them are quite funny....)! Only a 6.8?

One of his very best.
David Gilmour, and Mark Knofler played on this album - anyone know who's on this track ? I'd say Gilmour.

funny how the roxy music sound is so easily identified; eno included. i suppose it's because they are so different from the mainstream and worked well together. i like them all; grouped and as solo artists. enjoy!

Make. It. Stop.
Never understood the appeal of Bryan Ferry or Roxy Music. Other people must, based on the rating, but I get nothing from this song whatsoever...it sounds cheesy and sappy to me...too slick and overproduced for my taste.
I also remember this song on "9 1/2 Weeks", but, to me, it was a distraction, not an enhancement, to the movie. A film like that needed a truly sultry song, not this.
Just my two cents...

In my younger years I thought he was saying Safety Love.
Slave to Love... Now it makes much more sense.

The entire album is amazing!!! Get it and you might as well order "Boys and Girls" at the same time.
This song is sultry, sexy, and gets me every.damned.time.
Which one is the boy?
I think Talk Talk has a similar sound...smooth vocals.. bupanishad2012 wrote:

OK. It's pretty good. I can't believe I reverted to my teenage years to rate this.

Never too much Brian or Roxy.........

When I grow up, I want to be Bryan Ferry.
wow, I thought this was that other Brian Ferry song from this album that really really sounds like that other Roxy Music song (Avalon)
they all sound so so similar but I have to admit they sound good
Best Ferry song ever.
How sweet it is, to come home to RP after a month away... Mauritius might be paradise, and Dubai offered lots of luxury and fun, but there is no place like Tokyo, and
NO PLACE LIKE RP!
Thanks, Bill!
Dated....sounds like Bowie.......sort of
I never cared for this back in the day, but now I'm feeling strangely nostalgic...
I remember this from the movie 9 1/2 Weeks...Steamy goodness
Mmmmmm, nothing more romantic than a velvet jock strap!

Indeed. Excellent soundtrack, and this one brings it all together. I can't explain it, but I harbor a bittersweet nostalgia for the mid-80's, particularly when I hear movie soundtracks.
Yep, this one is awesome. Still jerks the heart strings after all these years.

1985. My then-girlfriend and I had just moved in together, and there, amidst the boxes and paper stuffing, with furniture strewn about and ice cream melting on the dining room table, we danced to this whole album, stopping only to switch album sides (yes, girls and boys, we were playing an LP). That spring-time, we were truly slaves to love. Bryan Ferry has always held a soft spot for me ever since.
SOOOO romantic! Thanks for sharing the luv!

This sets the right ambience. I always imagine me in a hotel room in a tuxedo (tux tie untied) with disheveled hair drinking a scotch, a martini or some champaign waiting on an encounter (if you get my meaning) with a really hot wahini.
I always thought that the best encounters occurred in Urbana.
Sinuous sleazy beat. I love the eighties. Pop music hasn't been as good since. Reminds me of dancing all night to fast music, then waiting for the slower sleazey stuff to start around 5 a.m.
Just turned the volume up a little.
Smoooth. Love it.

Having hear this a gazillion times way back when - I hear something different. I guess that's what "remastered" means. Not bad.
This whole album is one of my desert island discs. It and Avalon are a good 1-2 punch.

GREAT song.
What can you say - Bryan Ferry's voice is melodically haunting - a great artist - 10. O:)
