If I could open my arms
And span the length of the isle of Manhattan
I'd bring it to where you are
Making a lake of the East River and Hudson
If I could open my mouth
Wide enough for a marching band to march out
They would make your name sing
And bend through alleys and bounce off all the buildings

I wish we could open our eyes
To see in all directions at the same time
Oh what a beautiful view
If you were never aware of what was around you
And it is true what you said:
That I live like a hermit in my own head
But when the sun shines again
I'll pull the curtains and blinds to let the light in

Sorrow drips into your heart through a pinhole
Just like a faucet that leaks and there is comfort in the sound
But while you debate "half empty" or "half full"
It slowly rises: your love is gonna drown

Sorrow drips into your heart through a pinhole
Just like a faucet that leaks and there is comfort in the sound
But while you debate "half empty" or "half full"

Yep! Same here, Where I live, in Appalachia, there is NO good radio, other than NPR (news by day, good music at night). RP is my musical savior!!!!!!!! ...in FLAC!

These guys sound kind of like Owl City without the wierd synthesizer toodly-toots.

and again, another month later....  but Bill is only one guy, and he can't be creating  new playlists ALL the time.  If there is a good lineup, why not play it again?   It is a somewhat comforting, just like listening to your favourite record, (and we're talking vynil here!) and anticipating the next song.  Like greeting old friends.  I like it.....

I haven't got the latest album yet but I like Plans a lot. It's deliciously trippping.

Yes! 4 songs ago. Unusual for RP I thought.

10:22 am - Death Cab For Cutie - I Will Possess Your Heart Is this the closest to a RP 'twin spin'? Can I request side two of Led Zeppelin four?
Didn't we just hear from these guys 5 songs ago? Why, yes! Yes we did.

"Crooked Teeth" is pretty catchy too. DoctorHooey wrote:
Totally agree, Soul Meets Body is catchy as all hell. Most of the rest of their stuff is a big bowl of 'meh'.
'We Looked Like Giants' is a bit more energetic than their usual sound...
Easy listening music for the shoe-gazing generation... Blecch.

Bumped it up to a 2. It\'s definitely a solid 2. Not horrible enough to hate. That would be like hating a mannequin.
Dammit, I always want to give this lot an 8 just for their name. This particular one seems to be a 4 though.

Funny!! Dissing three good bands at once has to be a mortal sin, though.

Is it just me or does every song from this album sound the same? (Not that I don't like it, mind you...)

I really enjoy the lyrics of many of their songs. One of my favourites off this album is the lyrics of "What Sarah Said."

On the same theme, the lyrics are very, very good, poetic, and evocative. The music? Hmmm. Methinks solid, catchy pop hooks, and sometimes pop is good. A nice find for my collection, I think.

oh... well no wonder I thought I was hearing a radiohead song I actually liked, it's not radiohead.

Second song in a row, mentions a leaking faucet...

I really need to snag this album. I saw them at Coachella in 2004. Damn good. In fact, they had a very active stage presence at the time. Especially when they played "Why You'd Want To Live Here" and being so close to LA. I'd even go so far as to say it rocked. Me gusta.
The lyrics are, per DCFC standard, brilliant.

I saw them last night on Letterman... really, I thought they were pretty uninventive, not very interesting. They are getting a lot of airplay for a band that doesn't seem to have much "there" there, IMHO. Whether *I* personally could do better is not the point, before you start on me.
I saw them live in Atlanta a few weeks ago. The music was great (they sounded great), but I kind of laughed to myself at the sight of them trying to have a "energetic" stage prescience... how hard can anyone rock to Moody Indie Pop?

I definitely see 3rd grade spelling in this comment. And definitely no Coldplay! But how about "the lightning seeds" for sound comparison?
"Punkbot," I'd like to see you sing those pretty tough songs, perform them with instruments, and write "tunes" better than Death Cab has (let alone have as much success in doing it as they have...)
They sucked it hard on SNL.
God this band went down the tubes pretty fast...

I don't think they have to be completely original in order to be brilliant. What do you mean by "don't know anything about music"? I didn't study music in school, but I've been listening to it all my life. What other musicians do you think this band is lifting from? -maybe I would like them too.
True, there's nothing new here, but these guys are really growing on me.
Super sonic segue: same key and everything!

Regardless of whether this breaks any musical barriers, Ben Gibbard's voice and sometimes his words are capable of conveying emotions in a pretty powerful way. I have enjoyed this album quite a bit, and love the Postal Service.

Says you. And I think snobs all sound unoriginal, too. I think these guys are pretty good, and one of the fun things about them is that I can enjoy them with my 17 year old.

Where do you hear coldplay in this?? Just interested. Also, DCFC has been around, not just a little while longer, but a LOT longer than coldplay.
Wow, this is so mediocre!!!

Hmm...insipid? Vapid?(as Phineas stated) I personally find the lyrics to this song to be quite touching and not the least bit lacking in zest or interest. Sorrow drips into your heart through a pinhole Just like a faucet that leaks, and there is comfort in the sound. And while you debate half-empty or half-full, It slowly rises, your love is gonna drown. /And no, I am not currently experiencing unrequited love, nor have I just been dumped.
It matches with the colors of autumn...
bill is this just the booring set ?

love that song, it conjures very strange images as do alot of dcfc stuff.
i like it, but then again i still crave a big mac every once in a while too. i fell asleep in the midst of some dcfc video of these organic floating music notes, interesting song too, but the floaty notes reminded me of the sperm scene in eraserhead?

Great live show from DCFC, they open with this song, it's archived here: https://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=4963560
Insipid dreck
brilliant lyrics, beautiful song, love this band
This is one of those bands that I feel like I'm supposed to like, but I just never seem to warm to them. Kinda boring.
I just can't help enjoying Gibbard's vocals and lyrics. One of those things, I suppose.

plink,plink,plink,plink,plink,plink,plink,plink... ad infinitum edit: worse--> vapid lyrics.
When this first started, I expected The Edge's delay-ridden riff from The Streets Have No Name to come in.

Check your history books... Congrats to DCFC their for growing success over the the last few years (signing w/ Atlantic, etc.) Inversely, good luck to Coldplay whose reputation and popularity (not to mention quality of work)has gradually deteriorated. Hang in there boys!
pvcnote wrote:

oh hell no fool. this is far superior to the inane coldplay. besides they're american, which has to count for something. also this music is actually interesting, and while somewhat pretentious not so much so as to totally devalue it. At first I wasn't much of DCFC or postal service but it seems to grow on one, interesting stuff if not timeless
Don't hear any Coldplay in this, sorry.
I think these guys have been around longer than Coldplay. There style's a lot more sparse and not as self-indulgent as Coldplay's
