they say it's me
that makes you do things
you might not have done
if I was away
and that it's me
that likes to talk to you
and watches you
as you walk away

don't say it's useless
don't say forget it
don't bring me wishes
of silly dreams
just say there's often
too much freedom
too many fingers
and too many things

they say it's you
that washes the way
and brings the night
into the day
if you won't notice
how can I show you
all of your worries
have all gone away

don't leave me lonely
don't leave me unhappy
just bring me up
into your faith
if you don't need me
then don't deceive me
letting my freedom
turn into stone

just be my angel if you love me
be my angel in the night
be my angel cuz you need me
be my angel and treat me right

don't say you love me
if you don't need me
don't send me roses
on your behalf
just take me down
and walk through your river
down through the middle
and make it last

holding on to you
holding to me
holding on tight
'till my love is crossed
don't say it's useless
and don't say forget it
you are my spirit
now you are gone

amazing how influential Mazzy has turned out to be

God awful.
This is classic Mazzy.
I decided to listen some more and then post this.
I can't stand it. Had to mute the radio. How she ever managed to create an album is beyond me. I've heard kids in 2nd grade talent shows that could sing better than this!

I'll see your two words and raise (lower?) you. One word — annoying!

I wish she'd at least have TRIED to hit the notes in this song - she's singing so flat that my ears are cringing. Not one of Mazzy Star's better efforts, IMO.  No rating, because who knows?  Maybe the song will hit me right one day and I'll be platinumhappy.

Ha ha ha! I understand. Apparently it hits me just right tonight; I rate it an 8 and I seem to like it right now.
Wonder how Mazzy Star would sound with autotune?
I don't dislike repetitiveness (e.g. the Dandy Warhols) and I don't dislike a basic lack of singing ability (e.g. Ben Folds), but evidently, I dislike the two together.

ahhh brings back the good ole days
so Hope Sandoval (aka Mazzy Star) is playing a show at the Paradise Rock Club in Boston... and the crowd is getting restless... it is a very dimly lit show (at the artist's request) and a lot of people were there to see Hope b/c they heard she was cute... not a shadow on stage.. so a bit into the show a quiet crowd started chit-chatting, drinking at the bar and what-not. Mazzy stopped the show and started complaining about the crowd being too loud. Someone shouted out "We love you Hope!" to which she replied: "I don't need you to love me. I need you to SHUT THE F**K UP!" Amazingly bizarre moment out of all the live shows I've worked/seen. Almost the whole crowd turned on her. She was very apologetic after the show and is a TOTAL SWEETHEART in person. Just an off night I guess.
sorry gang. can't pile on the grump-fest. i like the vocals and the twangy guitar. rawk on!
I've heard stuff from Mazzy Star that I really like. But this isn't one of them.
Well, it had to happen sometime. I came onto the site to rate this "song" 1 (one, sucko-barfo) and lo and behold, but I already rated it that! I really REALLY hate this type of "music", this mazzy star, slow tempo, depressive, quaalude influenced sh!te.
genuinely different...not the norm...not the usual...it sounds good to me...and that's why it's here on RP

This song needs to find a home somewhere other than the radioparadise play list. .

Another easy decision. 1 and switch off for a bit
I saw Hope Sandoval in concert. A deeply moving experience. She and her former band can do no wrong in my eyes. They are a most welcome color in the rainbow that is music. I defy you to listen to any of their albums with the lights off an not be transported.
boring, dear gods this is boring......I really dislike this band. Ugh.
This is a great album.
Same start as Fade Into You, thought it was going to be a live version of it. Disappointing.
I like this. Different and unusual vocal stylings, without resorting to, oh, you know--screeching and hollering and stuff. Cool
