See the ghost of Bob Marley as he gets up to go
Driven out by the new reality TV shows
In the ghost of ideals we've got nothing to show

Alcohol gives us courage, selling corporate deals
You pin all your dreams on a new set of wheels
And the New Labour spokesman tells us all how we feel.

Hard to believe these guys formed their band in 1978, when I was in my second year of high school, and I never heard of them until I started listening to RP in 2006-7? Amazing.
OMG go Google for a photo of Vini Reilly these days. He looks 100 years old. Guy's been through the ringer. I hope he gets well.
This is a really good song. Fantastic guitar work .

Not sure what post-punk means.

"Post-punk is a broad genre of music that emerged in 1977 in the wake of punk rock. Post-punk musicians departed from punk's traditional elements and raw simplicity, instead adopting a broader, more experimental approach that encompassed a variety of avant-garde sensibilities and non-rock influences. Inspired by punk's energy and do it yourself ethic but determined to break from rock cliches, artists experimented with styles like funk, and electronic."

Why have I only just heard of this band?!?!
RP, that's why.
Reminds me a bit of Steve Hillage which can only be a good thing.
Durutti Column - yes yes yes
Cool tune! I'm getting Stereo MCs
Great band!
Respect!
If there was a Genre of
Beach Music
this would be inclusive. Very soothing & relaxing.

I don't understand or find appropriate the first portion of the (alleged) Wikipedia text in the first half of the entry for this act.  Is it corroborated somewhere? I don't find these sentences in the Wikipedia entry about Durruti Column that this is supposedly taken from, so this text possibly came from elsewhere, which therefore means it's not Wikipedia.  Should it be here?
I'm so glad with your radio!
It"s the best groovy stuff  always.
Keep it on !
Vini Reilly: out of trends, outside the charts, a long private and original musical path across decades, I love DC.

I wonder if Eno touched it.  Kind of has his flavor.  Like the most Excellent and hard to find song Under by Eno.

SO SMOOTH! !   love love this tune!
Oh yes - that is just what I needed.
For me the whole of this song is in the beautiful guitar riff and the way it's accompanied.  Vocals and lyrics are blah.  But I always have the feeling that riff came from somewhere, like a jazzy Erik Satie.
wow, never heard this one before, can't wait to hear it again. most excellent
Vocals lend itself to a Brian Eno influence and sound. I like this quite a bit.

Yet another interesting artist and track discovered via RP. :-)

  I think you mean chord progression, not "signature".  Both songs share the same, traditional chord progression (in different keys), but given the title of this song  ("Nina") it's safe to assume that Vini Reiilly was paying homage to Nina Simone's song.
Even more relavant now than 2006
No PasarĂ¡n!
The more I hear this the more I am love the feel and the serious guitar overlay finish.
9 -> 10
Another excellent tune I haven't heard in years. Takes me back to my first days listening to RP.
Love this piece. I only hear it on Radio Paradise and it will always brighten my day when I do. Thank you Bill.
Any day you hear this is instantly a better day.

In the words of Nick Danger, Third Eye:
"Thanks, Half Pint! You just saved me a lot of investigative work."

(No "belittling" of short people is intended. But hey: feel free to take offense
if it lifts your spirits!).

Terrific song!

It's never been a dead art; it may have just fallen on deliberately-deaf ears.

Perfect description!

RP has turned me onto some wonderful music over the years...thanks R&B!
Yes, reminiscent of Carlos. But for the drum track, a great song.

Reminds me of Carlos Santana.
Only caught the last part of this so I'm hoping to hear it again! Awesome!
The ghost of Malt Barley, otherwise known as a hangover. {#Cheesygrin}
Wasn't that the favourite band of Ian Curtis? {#Clap} It's the 36th anniversary of his death this year. {#Cry} on the 18th May.

Wonderful evocative downtempo tune ... Vini Reilly style.
"Sinner" by Neil Finn should follow this song. Same groove...{#Cheers}

Not sure exactly but this song reminds me a lot of 'Woke up this Morning' by Alabama 3 - the theme tune for The Sopranos TV series.

Interesting lyrics.
{#Hearteyes}
Vini Riley is a great guitar player.  The Return of The Durutti Column is one of the great albums from the early Factory Records period.  This song and album are quite good too.

  {#Yes} Albeit a totally awesome trick; for all the hype, old Carlos is a one trick pony compared Vini Reilly.

The exception to the rule is Caravanserai.

I grew tired of Santana's work years ago - it doesn't seem to evolve from the tried & true formula that he established in the 1970's. At least Vini Reilly experiments with a great variety of sounds and themes regardless of whether they are popularly accepted.

Pretty solid set going this afternoon. I keep trying to get away from my desk. Play more Durutti please. Anything I've heard I've liked.
It's too oily!

OUTSTANDING when played at altitude on a sub-woofed rig

After a huge Saturday night and a big Monday lie in I am proper feeling this.
Great riff. Great song. And Stuart Maconie said they played far and away the worst live gig he'd ever seen!
Manchester's finest. Go Vini!!!

This is becoming one of my favourite guitar hooks.
These guys keep growing on me. Gotta pick 'em up.

sweeeet downtempo....uuhhhh!
Get with it Bill ... we need an 11 ...
And you others.. I can't understand how when this comes on.. you don't feel that "slow down and smell the roses" fell.. like putting on a comfortable set of shoes or boots or jeans.. its ooozes cool and leaves you with that.. "I wanna do that more often" feel..

damn.. do I have to go back to work now? :(

But maybe you've guessed that from what's below.

Which in my non humble opinion is bullshit.
