Here I am in traffic's slow flow
Where the needle touched down
Carbon planes draw a cage round the air force base
Where the needle touched down
My foot on the brake, it's okay to fly low
Over poor Spanaway

An eagle swooped down from a semi-trailer
Took the name of your town from a sharp-toothed freighter
The needle's the same that recorded and played
When you left me at the Greyhound the year I moved away
And if I knew then what's so obvious now
You'd still be here, baby
My baby
Baby

So that's why I never come back here
That's why they spit out my name
Your exes have clawed up the Bible
Trying to keep me away
With the sledge of tectonic fever
The needle has landed again
Let it play

And the needle touched down
The needle has landed
And the needle touched down
The needle has landed

An eagle swooped down from a semi-trailer
Took the name of your town from a sharp-toothed freighter
And if I knew then what's so obvious now
You'd still be here

What kind of hat have you been wearing?

I'm not sure why MusicRookie brought up Canada anyhow; Neko Case was born and lives in the U.S., though she did live in Vancouver for a while, until her visa expired.
I'm starting to really like her {#Clap}
Some artists you learn to love through RP. Some artists you learn to strongly dislike. I very strongly dislike this foghorn of a voice. Unbearable.

'Tis. Yummy! Shame it's only a few bar's worth, but it adds a slight 'exotic' flavour to the backing.

Neko Case always reminds me of the album Jenny Louis did with the Watson Twins.

She's got that perfectly haunting hillbilly twang with a progressive-retro twist. Unique!

Thank you for pointing that out. Never listened closely enough to recognize that, but OTH I'm not that into that voice (even though I'm a heterosexual male).

Neko is really something, isn't she.

Good show here in Dallas a couple weeks ago. One of the few I've seen who's voice sounds as strong and clear in person as on the albums.

Really? Would you say that about June Carter Cash? Cus that's who she reminds me of.
Not throw away pop in the slightest.

8-->9. Ms. Case could sing a phone book and I'd probably rate it at least a five. What a great voice. c.

Check out the other drawings in the CD jacket! There's a narrative linking the songs that's illustrated therein.
Oh what the heck, I might as well add my voice to the chorus: what an outstanding talent!

Okay, but I think Pyro was merely suggesting that the LISTENER might be American if they made the mental substitution of "the Eagle has landed." This would have nothing to do with where the songwriter was born. but, okay, if you'd like...'Yay Canada.' If you must.
Neko and throw-away pop do not ever EVER belong in the same sentence. RadioDoc wrote:

Neko, will you marry me?
Something so unique about her voice, and so powerful.
You're all fools, Neko's really a guy! Ha Ha Ha!
Absolutely love her voice.
I think there's a concensus building amoung the men here Neko. We'll have your baby.
Oh, Neko - you sweet, sweet siren.

Neko playing at the Egg on Thursday, Jan 31 in Albany. Should be a good show but too far for Neko. Not so for Porcupine Tree. Oh well, there's greatness and then there's Godlike. I will always travel to see the Gods.

I love you Neko
Let it play Thanks RP...you know I love Neko!
Bill ... Love the Neko, but please, Please, PLEASE play more off of the Austin City Limits CD. May I suggest Behind The House or Favorite. Furnace Room Lullaby? (So much better then the album version.) Of course, this request may just be that I love Joh Rauhouse\'s playing so much!!!!

I finally found a copy of Fox Confessor down at the local record store, and I'm extremely satisfied, the most rewarding album purchase I've had in a long, long time. Now I just wish they had a copy of Blacklisted as well..!
My girlfriend introduced me to Neko Case and I will be forever grateful to her for it. RP loves Neko and so do I! This album in particular really rocks. Great voice, great lyrics, great feel. I am still here Neko, I am still here. Neko has landed. 9
This whole album hovers between a 9 or a 10.

Oh, well in that case... Nope. Still meh. It's not awful, but not something I would choose to listen to for an extended time. Something about listening to her just makes me sort of...tired. I won't slam anybody for liking her, though. Tastes and all that. Nobody's fan base includes everybody.

clearly when your location is stated "by the sea" you mean under the sea. something must be wrong with your ability to hear the majesty & magic of one of the best songs of the last few years.

Oh, Neko, where art thou. /swoon
Great song from a great album.
I hate to break it to you guys, but Neko starts all her tours in Minneapolis and I never miss her shows. Coincidence? I think not. I've got her hooked. (bliss)
I love Neko Case, her voice is distinctive and beautiful. She is the greatest! I wish we heard more than the three or four Neko Case songs that make it on here from time to time. I give it a nine.
"Neko Case was born on September 8, 1970, in Alexandria, Virginia. Her family is of Ukrainian descent -- their surname was changed from Shefschenko when the family immigrated to America in the 1940s. During her youth, Neko moved constantly, living all over North America, but spent the most time in Tacoma, Washington, which she considers her hometown." https://www.starpulse.com/Music/Case,_Neko/Pictures/

I made myself a best of Neko and it's been in the car CD playe (and getting palyed) for 4 or so months. My 11 year old daugher even ranks Neko up there with little Miss Syrus. Angloray wrote:

I've read Neko prefers that her lyrics aren't obvious, that she likes listeners to insert their own meaning. But I was puzzling about them too, since this was my upload and it has some local references for me. I'd say she's sitting in traffic on I-5 near "poor Spanaway" (her hometown, a suburb of Tacoma, which has problems with airplane noise from McChord AFB), musing about lost love & regrets, that you can't go home again. The "needle" at times seems to be a record player, seismometer, maybe a plane. "The needle's the same that recorded and played when you left me." "The needle has landed again. Let it play." But I like it ambiguous. Great song, great voice, great album!.

Saw her last night (in Brooklyn with Joanna Newsom and Martha Wainwright). She's a great performer, beautiful, funny, and generous. Two encores, including a devastating "Look For Me (I'll Be Around)."
Meh.
I am in love with Neko... Whatta voice!
More Neko is always acceptable! Glad to see that I'm in the majority here saying that I love Neko and that AMAZING voice of hers!

Great song, great album.
Her best work yet!
Quite the slide after Danny Gatton. Quick, finish the song, I think I've got tectonic fever.

what it's not about: Charlie Moran - The Daily Iowan Posted: 3/8/06 Let's dispense with the typical Neko Case talking points right away: Yes, she was banned for life from the Grand Ole Opry for removing her shirt during a performance. No, she does not sound like Patsy Cline. Yes, she was once voted "Sexiest Babe in Indie Rock" by Playboy readers. And, finally, no, her new album Fox Confessor Brings the Flood isn't really about Russian folklore.
My favorite track from this album.
i bought this album a couple of weeks ago and have been playing the bejeezus out of it. perfect for hanging out on the back porch, drinking a few cold ones and watching the fireflies.

I highly recommend this CD if you like anything RP's played from it. The songwriting and arrangements are consistently great all the way through, and there's something so magical about Neko's voice on this. I have no idea about the artwork, though.
